This hotel was more than we could have imagined...the rooms were clean...the staff was friendly...the view of Acropolis was to die for!!! The only downfall was the walls are paper thin so you could hear everybody that walked by.

The staff are very nice and very helpful. The breakfast is simply excellent. The only issue was that the sauna and the steam room only worked on our first day there, then they both seemed to malfunction. The room is alright, but not what I would consider a five-star room.

The Acropolis Museum, archaeological site, restaurants, etc. are all within walking distance (recommend you eat at Acropol, Trattoria, The Old Tavern of Psaras and AVOID the costly restaurant at the hotel). The hotel provides pamphlets for land tours, cruises and sightseeing (CHAT TOURS). My husband and I booked our trips through CHAT and two days later found a travel agency offering the same trips for 20E less p/p.Our fault for not shopping around but we didn't want to risk not being able to visit the islands due to constant boat and taxi strikes. Check out the travel agencies in Monastiraki and only book the trips through them (just be careful and only buy what you came in for). If you bring US Dollars, the front desk will exchange them to E at the daily rate and charge you 2E for the transaction. We stayed at Electra Palace Hotel in plaka for 3 nights. We had 3 rooms for 6 adults in April 2012 all the rooms were small and old. The elevators are claustrophobic, too small for two people with luggage. When we arrived and saw the rooms we asked if we could cancel the reservation but unfortunately for us the rooms were prepaid. We asked for balcony […] and Acropolis view but they gave us the rooms facing rundown buildings. The buffet breakfast is average for Europe. The location is good but there are other hotels in Syntagma square that are much better than Electra Palace with 5 to 10 minutes walking distance to plaka. Great hotel. At first we weren't sure about the hotel as it was located in a very narrow street. Then we realized that most of the streets in Athens were narrow. In fact this hotel was centrally located which made it very convenient for our travels. My only complaint was the size of the room............it was EXTREMELY small and almost claustrophobic.
