Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter

The staff and the grounds of the French Quarter were above and beyond phenomenal. Anything asked for was instantly accommodated and they even worked with a tricky series of back-to-back reservations with finesse. Gift shop was very well-stocked with a wide array of necessities at a reasonable price. The beds could be more comfortable and an in-room […] microwave would have been appreciated, however, the fridge, dual sinks, blow dryer, gratuitious coffee were all wonderful ammenities and the overall ambiance was simply delightful. We had a beautiful view of the Sassagoula River and strolling through the lushly-landscaped grounds was enchanting, day or night. I routinely used the shuttle services to the parks, employed the Bell Service to procure taxis to other Disney lodging sites and took advantage of the meal services in the Food Court and thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment provided by Elliott Dyson in the Scat Cats Lounge. The employees in the lobby were very nice, and the resort had a lot of activities. the rooms were the same set up as most of the disney hotels, but the grounds were really nice. First time staying on-site. That part was good, buses to all the parks were convenient and fairly fast. Room was just a room. Nothing special. Free Wi-Fi (hard to find this info). Food was pretty bad (5 breakfast + 1 dinner) - expensive too. Was hoping to have awesome beignets, gumbo, etc. but it was below average. Muffaleta was ham and salami on bread […] (and heated). Ugh. Booked through hotels.com to get nights rewards and Discover cashback but had a snafu on check-in (name was misspelled - looks like they manually transcribed things somewhere... weird). All-in-all, I probably would not stay on property again but I don't think I'd discourage someone from trying it at least once. BTW, the line for the boat to Downtown Disney gets super busy - plan ahead around dinner time and late night coming home. Read more

We liked the option of being able to take a boat to get to Downtown Disney instead of the bus all of the time, although the Disney people certainly know how to move people around in a very efficient manner. The major problem we had is that we booked two rooms at this Hotel with a river view thru Expedia. They had moved one of us the another Hotel????? We were surprised. They ended up putting us both in the same Hotel but I did not get the room with a view as I paid for??????? Very disappointed but staff did best to suit.

The staff was beyond nice - everyone was friendly, helpful, and made our stay very comfortable. The Disney Magical Express service which transported us to from the airport to the hotel was excellent! Excellent location, transportation and service. The room was immaculate and food and the cocktail lounge were located close to our room. The French Quarters is within walking distance of the Riverside resort which has an excellent restaurant and cocktail lounge. You never saw any trash or debis of any kind at the resort.

Overall experience was pleasant, but we were disappointed by some of the hotel staff. First of all, when we checked into our room, we found a trash can full of trash. We told that to the hotel but got no apology. Further, they were supposed to give us park tickets at the front desk upon our arrival. They forgot that obviously and told us we should get […] tickets at the concierge, which was very unfriendly and told us to pick up tickets at any park. When we went to an information center at one of the parks and asked for tickets, we were told we should have picked up the tickets at the hotel. The information center was very helpful and somehow managed to print out tickets for us. Two days later, the hotel staff phoned us to pick up tickets at the front desk. The location and exterior of the hotel are beautiful. however, the rooms are small, the bathrooms smaller. Not at all what I expected from a Disney hotel. We travel to Disney often and try to stay in a differnet hotel each time... Not enough people working the check-in desk. Traveled the week after Thanksgiving, so it wasn't very busy. Pool area very nice, and the hot tub was hot. They also allow kids in the hot tub, which is a plus for a Disney resort. If you want no-kid policies, my guess is you would not be at Disney in the first place. Loved the free riverboat rides to Orleans […] Riverside and Downtown Disney. Also, very nice to walk along the river. We spent most of our time at the Riverside resort next door. They had a nice playground for kids (with a bar for adults -- too bad the bartender was nowhere to be found). The arcade at the Riverside also had something to offer children of all ages. Rooms were clean and comfortable, though it was very hard to control the thermostat (the blower runs all the time) and the free internet advertised on Hotels.com was actually $10 per day. For cell phone users not on Verizon, be sure to bring a cell phone charger, as my phone lost its batter power very quickly looking for service. We think that Disney purposely blocks non-Verizon carriers from access inside the rooms. Read more

We enjoyed our stay at the French Quarter. The outside of the buildings were a bit dated but the insides were newly remodeled with new queen beds. The resort was quiet and my child especially enjoyed the pool and movie nights outside on the lawn. The cafeteria was very busy and noisy in the morning and we preferred just to eat in our room. I was disappointed […] in that they didn't have enough food cashiers during busy times. Our food was cold by the time we finished paying. The bus service was excellent and never had to wait long. One night we took the boat to Downtown Disney to eat supper. We tried calling ahead but they said reservations were all full. We were able to get into the Rainforest Cafe after about a 45 minute wait which gave us time to look at some shops. We ate at the Riverside cafeteria (5minute walk) a few nights and liked that better although checkout was slow there too. Read more

We stayed at this hotel for the nights of October 15th and 16th. It was a decent hotel and it's clear why it is labeled as a "moderate" hotel. I have stayed at other properties on site such as the Dolphin and the Grand Floridian. Grand, this hotel ain't but it is comfortable and the rooms are very quaint. My wife and I stayed at the French Quarter last week on our annual Honeymoon. We loved the service here. Disney does service perfectly. The food was good, grounds spotless and transportation to the parks very convenient. We stayed in building six by the river. The downsides...... Uncomfortable bed and too many noises. We heard every toilet in the place […] flush, we heard coughing, showers and the A.C. unit made all sorts of ticking sounds. Disney does so many things right we can't believe they wouldn't invest in some soundproofing for their building and a comfortable bed. Port Orleans French Quarter was an excellent resort with all amenities that one can expect at a Disney resort. This was our first stay at a Disney resort and we had selected French Quarter after reading numerous reviews of the different Disney resorts. The room was very nice and spacious enough for us with two queen beds. We were in Building 4 which […] was a recommendation we had read online in some of the reviews. This was a good recommendation as this building is close enough to the food court, lobby and to the bus stop for the transportation to the parks. The pool was probably the furthest we had to walk (about 5 mins). Food court was average but quality of food and portions were sufficient. Prices were as expected at a Disney resort. Being smaller than Riverside helped as it had shorter lines at the bus stops at the parks to get back to the resort. Buses were frequent enough (longest wait was 10-15 mins) and always had seating available. Boat service to Disney Downtown was pretty good too. We tried it on the last day of our trip there and it was a nice relaxing way to get to Downtown and back. The boat is shared by Riverside so the line was longer returning back to the resort late at night around 11 p.m. Overall, a good resort worth recommending. Read more

The Port Orleans French Quarter is a wonderful hotel on the Disney property. Buses run every 10-20 minutes to take you to the various Disney theme parks and I don't recall ever having to wait to board a different bus. Plus, there's a water taxi (free) that runs to Downtown Disney as well, which is a better option than the buses as you don't have additional […] stops. The convenience of access to Downtown Disney by Boat was great as long as you give yourself enough time. Riverside sometimes fills the boat during peak periods ( Lunch, Dinner...etc ) leaving French Quarter residents waiting at the dock. Plan ahead but overall, a Wonderful Stay !

One of the days, we were so tired we wanted to stay in all day so we put out the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. When we went out late in the afternoon, the maid had left us a bag full of clean towels, soaps, toilet paper and kleenex in case we needed anything. That was a great supprise. Loved it. This was really tiring after having a long day in the parks. The room was very comfortable but could not get the temperature just right - it was either too cold or to warm. We were originally told we could request a microwave oven and when we checked in we were told there were no microwaves for in the room - only the ones in the cafeteria.
