"Not that bad"

"NOT the place to start a cruise...."
Summary: NEVER AGAIN! Arrived in FLL - called for the motel 'shuttle' was given incorrect directions ("Turn left from Baggage Claim") for a van that never showed up. Took a cab ($28). Area looks sketchy at night with ...odd people hanging around. Reception had two teenagers on duty, one was helpful. The room was smelly (smoke?) but Clean! Found the […] TV wasn't working (1/3 of screen obscured by static) and the coffeemaker was a decoration (no filter tray). Called to report the TV and they sent up a fellow who claimed the problem was the wrong remote for the TV - I said good-night. I liked the towels. Wi-fi service rated poor to fair. (It's better downstairs if you get stuck here) Bed was about as good as the chain provides, but -LOUD Highway noise all night. The 'free' shuttle to the port cost me $2/bag (to me, no receipt means not a real business) and that was 45 minutes late. To be fair, the port shuttle is run by a tip-hungry 3rd party 'company'. "worst hotel ever!!"
This by far was the worst hotel I have ever stayed. There was no working pool, we changed room's 3 times before we found one that was liveable. The pick up from the airport was 2 hrs late then when we tried to book in early they charged me an extra $25.00. The shuttle to the ship which is supposed to be free cost us an extra $2.00 per bag. Traveled to Fort Lauderdale for a couples vacation. While price was a deal, the accommodations were less than desired. The room was crowd, especially for an accessible handicapped room. We called the hotel and asked how the shuttle worked to get picked up from the cruise terminal and they said "just call us when you're ready". So, once we were off the ship, we called. We were picked up close to 3 hours later when their shuttle was dropping a group off. The guy told us someone came for us but couldn't get in because there was too much […] traffic. At the hotel counter, we see a sign stating the shuttle runs at pre-assigned times (info not shared with us on the phone). The manager was laughable. The staff was less than pleasant. The manager left a customer holding on the phone so he could laugh with the front desk. Another group came to the counter to say their room wasn't clean. He laughed and contacted housekeeping and blamed them for misinforming him in front of the customer. The shuttle driver tried to act as if he was full at the time I requested my party be able to ride the shuttle back to the airport (we ended up being the only people on board). Our friend’s room looked like it was falling apart. One of their double beds was broken, there was no handle on the inside of the bathroom door, there was paint on the floor, mini holes in the carpet, etc... We were told they were transitioning and had someone (singular) renovating the rooms. Pretty much a disaster from the start. Hotel lost power the first day, not their fault. Room smelled, had beer caps on floor, very run down. Did not provide housekeeping service on the 2nd night. We booked this motel for a one night stay before our cruise departure. I like to stay at motels that offer free parking while we cruise. My favorite motels were already booked so we opted to give Days Inn a try. This property was the worst of the Days Inns that we ever stayed at. It was dirty, the staff wasn't helpful, the beds were very uncomfortable, […] breakfast consisted of plain donuts, coffee, and one cereal/milk, we had to ask for another room due to the mildew, and their shuttle to Port Everglades was so early in the morning, 9:15, that we would have had to stand for three hours at the port before we could board the ship. We decided to take a taxi instead. Days Inn stated that it was the closest motel to the port which was a total lie - the taxi fee to the port was $24 + tip. One of the two receptionists was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast lady was very friendly and re-stocked food well. "Close to the beach but in much needed remodeling."
I had stayed in this hotel before because of its proximity to Clubs and the beach. However, the conditions of the hotels keep getting worst and it is very unlikely that I will return. Ten minutes into our arrival we had to switch rooms as the original room smelled extemely bad; cigattes smoke, don't see how they can ever get that smell out of that room. […] The second room smelled better but the bathtub needed cleaning, the toilet wsa cracked, the lamp shade had a hole, and the airconditioning wall unit made more noise than a deisel truck. Furthermore, the interior of the elevator was dirty, nasty, missing some of its molding. No I am not a spoiled brat but trust me when I say that this hotel is a "2" and thats because of it proximity to Las Olas, the beach, clubs, and the major expressway.
