"Inexpensive and close to the Port"
Paint spots on worn, old carpet; no TV remote and TV from the 90's; tile falling off bathroom wall; no soap; toilet runs after every flush; HAIR on shower wall; filthy under tub mat; paint stained picture above the bed; doorknob plate hanging loose. This hotel is under remodel, but you would think they would put customers in the good rooms and don't […] book the ones slated for remodel. Upon our departure, there was only one person behind the counter with a long line of people trying to check out because it was cruise day. Seems to me that many use this hotel for their stay before a cruise, so why only one person behind the counter? There should have been a minimum of 2. After waiting in line for 10 minutes, I finally spoke up and asked if we pre-paid, can we just leave our key cards and the gentleman behind the counter said YES. He should have announced this when the line formed or have a sign that states you can leave your key cards if you pre-paid. Half the people in line left their cards and thanked me for speaking up. "An adequate place for an overnight stay"
It was okay. This was the second stay within 3 weeks time. We stayed both times as a lay over while waiting for connecting flights to other places. This is not as nice as other Clarion/Comfort locations we have stayed at, but it is being worked on. It is an old building and has seen its share of use as well as Hurricanes over the years. We arrive late and left early, so were not able to use the shuttle service or the Breakfast service. The Staff however is First Rate! Terry is very pleasant and did a great job of keeping his "cool" while being given a really hard time by a Guest over the response time of the Shuttle Service. The Airport pick up area was a Mob and the Van simply could not carry all of us and had to make a second trip. Check-in @ 10:00p and the lobby was completely locked down. Had to stand in a vestibule and check-in thru bullet proof glass and the metal tray (similar to a gas station in a really bad neighborhood)). I asked for a 5:00a wake-up call (clerk said no problem) to be ready for the 6:00a hotel shuttle to the airport. I thought I would find a quick meal, […] but there is nothing anywhere near this dump. The only place I saw was a Salvation Army Store that was closed. So I made my way to the room on the 5th floor. The elevator was the slowest on the planet. The 3 minute trip seemed like an hour. Once to the room, it actually wasn't the worst I've seen, still not very nice. The door to the room was terrible. The road is very busy and the noise was load. I could see the traffic thru the gap in the closed door. Went to bed hungry and slightly uneasy because of the security at the lobby (if the clerk is behind bullet proof glass, can't be a safe place to be). I set the alarm clock as a back-up. Sure enough, no wake-up call. Get ready and go down to the lobby area to catch the shuttle. Nobody in the hotel to ask about the shuttles whereabouts. I peeked thru the shade in the window and there was a guy (desk clerk) sitting on a chair sleeping. I banged on the window and scared the heck out of him. I yelled shuttle to him. We stayed here for one night just because we were going on a cruise, it was cheap, and had a free shuttle to the airport and cruiseport. The room was clean and comfortable. Service at the check in counter was the worst that I have ever experienced. I have traveled quite a bit, and this lack of service was beyond anything I can really put into words. The manager just looked at me and never spoke a word directly to me. the lady checking me in wanted me to pay for my room(s) again although they were prepaid on Expedia. My boyfriend and I booked this hotel because of the complimentary shuttle from the airport to the cruise terminal that it offered. Upon arrival, we checked in in the lobby which seemed updated and clean. We then proceeded to our hotel room and were quite shocked. Although the door locked, it did not close all the way. The room was disgusting. It smelled […] like stale cigarettes and the carpet was dirty and very worn. We actually had to lay down towels on the ground next to our bed in fear of getting up in the middle of the night and stepping on the ground with bare feet. The tub had stains in it and some towels had small hairs on them (ew!), so we decided it was in the best interest of our health not to shower that night. As for the mattress, I actually had to check (for peace of mind) for bed bugs (good thing there were none...but I was surprised to say the least). Overnight we had to huddle in the center of the bed in fear that our bodies might touch the mattress because the sheets constantly slid off the bed. The hotel offers a free continental breakfast, but we decided to skip that (if the hotel rooms were this dirty, can you imagine what the kitchen must be like...). Check out was at 11:00 and the shuttle to the cruise port was scheduled to arrive at 12:30 and was late by over a half hour. So we were forced to sit around outside for 2 hours.
