it was a great way to spend Christmas Eve. My husband and I are in our 60's and it was very pleasant to be treated so well by a staff not one of which (we thought) was a day over 30! The library was awesome, just as we remembered it from a previous stay. We also had a great conversation with the Pump Room bartender. BTW, please keep the old celebrity photos! We'll be back!

The hotel was a great value. It was clear that the hotel was an old building that had been converted, but I think that added to the charm - mostly. We were just looking for any hotel for a family weekend away and we are happy we chose Public Chicago. The lobby/1st floor of the hotel was decorated well, very chic and always lively. The hotel was decidedly less chic upstairs in the rooms, but still enjoyable. The furniture in the rooms was clearly lower quality than the first floor of the hotel but still had a modern design. The ambient lighting in the room was fantastic. The bars in the hotel were very lively - it was nice to get back at night and still be able to stay up if we wished but be in our hotel. The location of the hotel could not have been more perfect, especially for a trip during the Christmas season. The neighborhood was fantastically decorated and centrally located.

Very modern hotel. This is definitely a hotel for the younger folks since it was packed loud music once I walked in. I got lucky I had quiet neighbors but I could tell it could have a been a very different story since the walls were very thin. I could hear the people next to me at times. I would stay again though since I had a pretty good stay with nice helpful staff. I found a parking lot on abbot st since it would be like $55 a night if I were to decide to park at the hotel.

We were only there for a couple hours, just a quick getaway from the kids and a night on the town. The bar and restaurant are so chic and a great ambiance on Saturday night. Not sure if it was only because it's holiday party season, but they had a lot of reserved tables in the bar which was kind of a bummer as it's not a big space. It's in an old building so the entry level room is pretty small. Our view from the 10th floor was decent. Overall Public is great to have a fun glitzy night out- GNO or a date night.

I stayed at the public hotel for a night for business. The valet parking was $56 overnight ($40 for self park, but I couldn't find the garage) , which was a little on the pricey side. But the hotel has the right amount of style and mood that was enjoyable in every aspect. I appreciated the details in room decor. Food was as minimalist as the room, but great and worth the price. The wall was a little thin. I could hear the next door tv. The bed and the sink were low. But I guess that was part of the idea of the hotel. Overall I would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful service and accommodations. Fun to sit in lobby for wine in the evening and for coffee in the morning. One small drawback is the fact that the bell-persons open the front service to allow them easy access to outside for transporting luggage for those checking out. This results in a fast cool down of the lobby area so that guests have to don jackets. The desk clerks admit it is very cold but that management refuses to restrict this action much to the repeat requests from guests.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the remodeled Public Hotel. The Main Lobby, Lounge and Bar were marvelous. Room decoration minimalist and nice. Bathroom OK. Locations is excellent. My overall experience was very good. Given the dates I visited (PackExpo) the rate was competitive to the options I checked.

I love the public- its a beautiful hotel with exceptional art and food. I'm here often for pleasure but this was my first time staying for a few days on a work trip. The room is nice, minimal- but the walls are so thin- I was able to hear the conversation details as other guests came on and off the elevator. So great for pleasure and entertaining, maybe not so great for early morning wake up calls.

Checked in on a Saturday evening. Greeted in the lobby with a glass of spiced mulled wine. Beautiful chic interior design cool bar and restaurant scene in a tucked away elegant neighborhood not far from all that Chicago has to offer. Room walls are thin. You can hear clearly the conversations of neighbor through adjoining room walls. Despite this, the room was comfortable & perfectly appointed

I traveled to the city for Halloween and decided to stay at Public so I wasn't out late driving home with drunks. Public is a great hotel and I could not have asked for a better experience. I will definitely consider Public when I need a place to stay in the city again!

The Hotel Lobby and Restaurant/Bar are very nice and modern. The rooms appear nice at first but then you begin to notice the oddities. The bed is very low to the ground and the wooden cabinets and furniture looked straight out of IKEA. The art was extremely weird, including very small black and white photographs mounted on random spots of the walls. The curtains and carpets had several black and brown stains in various places. The bathroom was nice but again just a little off. Bed was extremely comfortable and cable even had a guide for viewing what was on (not used to that in a hotel). The staff was the highlight off the hotel. Very attentive and quick to respond to any need. Room service was also excellent.

If you want to go to a happening bar and lively restaurant, check out both at the PUBLIC hotel. The hotel itself has rooms that are very white and not much else. The rooms are trying to be sleek modern, but the overall effect is "we picked this up cheap at IKEA." Fortunately, Expedia had good rates. The beds are low and not comfortable. No coffee in the rooms, just expensive drinks & candy. That said, the hotel's Gold Coast location, slightly hidden among townhouses worth millions, is fabulous. A few blocks to Lake Michigan, bars on Rush and Division Streets, Starbucks. You could walk to Water Tower or Second City, too. If you have always wanted to stay overnight at IKEA, this is your chance.

Just spent the week at the Public Chicago and I only have good things to say. They are near State and Rush, so there are a lot of places to eat nearby, and the subway is only about a 10 minute walk away. The hotel is clean and the staff were very nice, so we would definitely stay there again.

The hotel was ok. I expected better amenities in a 4 star hotel. I spent a lot of money for a very basic room but since mine was a Deluxe I guess it had more bells and whistles than others.

It seems that the hotel was not capable of providing basic services reliably, like delivering newspapers which had been ordered, providing bags which had been requested (twice) for dry cleaning, or returning the dry cleaning to a location where it could be found (it had been "hidden" in a wardrobe --- I did not dream to look there. These deficiencies in service "ruined" the quality of what could be an excellent hotel.

Loved the location, lobby and bars of this hotel! A bit quieter than places along Miracle Mile, the Gold Coast neighborhood was relaxing and beautiful. Major plusses beyond those ---- loved the decor of the room, very comfortable beds and pillows, fun 'vibe' and hotel history. Not as positive were the elevators and hallways and bathroom were all a bit worn looking.....probably reflecting that it was an older hotel that maybe needed a bit of attention in those areas.

Really cool hotel, love the Interrior design and the hotel gives off a really fancy modern vibe. The location was really close to Michigan Ave and Shops but at the same time was somewhat secluded. Highly recommend for the price you are paying!

Once I was changed to a less noisy room (there was a wedding happening during my stay at the hotel with lots of bachelors being loud until late hours) it all felt wonderful. A wonderful building, with phenomenal bones and a very elegant setting, very a la Ian Shrager style.
