"Beautiful surrounding area and close all"
It was great. The guy at the front desk was very accommodating for our group and we really appreciated it. The suite was beautifulGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by PUBLIC Chicago Thank you from PUBLIC Chicago. We appreciate your feedback and glad the team at the Front Desk were able to deliver great service to you and your group. We hope to see you again soon.
This was my second stay at The Public. Absolutely love the neighborhood and facility. Close walk to the shops on the Magnificent Mile, but far enough away from all the chaos. The Pump Room is always a good time and quite a scene on the weekends. The only less than desirable part of my stay was the room was close to the elevator shaft. I could hear the […] elevator grind along the track especially when close to my floor. Difficult to get much good quality sleep, especially in the morning hours. "Not a vacation but an EXPERIENCE!!"
Needed a rest and a happy Thanksgiving Holiday as we just lost our Dad. Public House looked great on line and close to my nephew. Room small with two beds not queen. Clean room but bath was for migets. You could not use the toilet if you wanted to wipe you butt. Too close to the wall if you get the picture. The people above us tub overflowed and we […] had instant shower just standing in our bath. Soaked we called maintenance. They moved us up a floor at 12:00 midnight in our nightgowns/soaking. The bathroom was larger, thank God but we only had one king bed and needed a roll in one as well. Finally settled the heater made a ping noise all night so we had to leave the TV on so not to go crazy. In the morning the shower did not work, as it was so tight as not to turn in or out or even give some water. When I put my robe on the hook, that fell to the floor. The in room breakfast for two was $56.00 for two cups of coffee and two scons. I think they should have comped that at least. The gave us a 1:00pm check out, how nice, but we needed to get home and take a shower. Home is Wisconsin. The rooms totally need help. This hotel is camping ..I don't know how the Movie Stars could take it back in the day. So small. But ...Charming. Love the Pump Room and the drinks in the bar. The food was just OK. This is more of a social gathering place to see and be seen. We went to Ruth Kriss for Thanksgiving Dinner. Will be come back? Maybe if the hotel gives us a better room. The hotel is very clean and the lobby is gorgeous and comfortable. However, The rooms look like they were remodeled in a day, thrown together, the carpet was peeling up in the corners! The lobby turns into a bar in the evening and all seats are "reserved", as a guest of the hotel we just wanted to have a nightcap in the lounge area, we were given 15 […] minutes in a reserved seat and had to fight for it. Being "guests" means nothing to the hostess. Coffee, drinks, food are priced for a 4 star restaurant, everything is extremely over priced, even for Chicago. Location is great but the service and attitude are not worth it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A really great hotel experience"
We were in Chicago for six nights staying at Public. Even though they were very busy they accommodated us and made us feel welcome. Everyone including the doorman, desk staff, coffee bar baristas, room attendants met us with greetings and remembered us. The food in the Pump Room was very good (breakfast). Public celebrates the charms of an older hotel […] and at the same time it is very modern in furnishing and decor. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"See the North End of the Strip"
While the property seemed a bit far from the main action of Michigan Avenue, it was a pleasant walk in nice weather. The intersection if State and Rush street has some good restaurants that we otherwise woud not have seen. The Pump Room restaurant and adjacent lobby bar were very busy both Friday and Saturday nights, such that we could not get a seat […] when convenient for us. This was a bit disappointing considering the great reviews we'd read in advance. We had to pay to upgrade to a kind deluxe since a king standard was not available at check in. The deluxe room was still small so we really wondered how small the king standard room would be... Amenities are definitely on the light side (ladies, pack your own shampoo, conditioner, etc) and no in-room coffee as other reviews note. Great breakfast restaurant a short block away - Hash House a Go-Go (excellent creative farm food)....and the Tavern on Rush is definitely worth a stop. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful hotel. From check in to check out."
I had shipped a package from home to meet me at hotel and had concerns after reading some reviews however from the time I contacted the hotel and spoke to kiera to the the time I left, everything was as great as a 5 star hotel. Carpet was so clean (big deal to me) and staff was young and energetic. Overall best experience after sampling 2 other hotels […] in Chicago. Definitely found a home there. "Modern and expensive"
This hotel prides itself on being upscale and attractive to the rich and famous. A little too rich for my blood. $20 for a bowl of oatmeal...$9 for two regular coffees. Rooms are not large, at least the one I stayed in but they were interesting and very clean. Very good location near Rush and the string of restaurants.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by PUBLIC Chicago Thank you Stephen for your review of your stay at PUBLIC Chicago. I appreciate your feedback on the prices and am glad you enjoyed our location. We hope to see you again soon.
"A beautiful hotel set in a lovely neighborhood"
It is set in a lovely neighborhood close enough to everything but far enough away from the hussle and bussle to be comfortably quiet. It was modern and clean and comfortable and safe. The staff is friendly and were very kind. Yummy cocktails....Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great location and hip vibe"
The hotel is beautiful and clean, with a youthful staff and clientele. The lobby and room design is elegant and fun. It gets very lively on weekend evenings, even a little overcrowded in the lobby and restroom (needed a cleaning around midnight). The Pump Room is very handsome and the food was excellent, the service professional but a little slow. Both […] downstairs bars were lovely, with good service and great drinks. "Ian Schrager Does It Again"
Much of the focus is on the out of room experience and it doesn't disappoint. Terrific lobby, bar, restaurant scene. Hot space, hot music, hot people, fun rooms. Very nice, somewhat residential location three blocks from the lake and a relatively short walk to South Michigan Avenue.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"very cool place to stay"
I was very pleasantly surprised how nice this hotel was. How conveniently it was located to everything we had to do. Having never been to Chicago it was perfect! The room was small but set up very efficiently. The only problem was the closet door was not attached and just kind of hung there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff at this hotel was fantastic. They sought you out, instead of passively walking by. Each one introduced themselves and offered their assistance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cool Hotel in the Gold Coast"
PUBLIC is a trendy hotel in the middle of the Gold Coast. Nice job of renovating an old space and modernizing. Rooms were clean and tidy. Staff was friendly, helpful and always available. Depending on your personality, the crowded lobby was a scene and could be considered an annoyance for someone who was staying for work purposes. I did manage to enjoy […] the Pump Room one night, which was spectacular and oddly affordable. Overall, I love the PUBLIC. Two things I absolutely HATED though: 1. No coffee in the rooms! I experienced this at the W in New York recently and hope this isn't becoming a trend or the norm. There is nothing worse than having to leave your room for that first cup of coffee. I get it- it doesn't work with minimal decor and could be messy. But it is enough to never stay there again! At least at the W coffee was complimentary in the lobby. PUBLIC should instigate such a policy, or at least a deep discount for hotel guest. The coffee was delicious in the lobby and the staff charming. But I wasn't really awake! 2. The blackout curtains in the room cover the air conditioning, so I had to sleep with my curtains open. The curtains should be shorter so I'm not woken up by the morning sun. If you fix that coffee situation, I'll gladly be back (a may even be back without coffee, for everything else was cool). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"In the heart of the Gold Coast"
Pleasant staff and gracious accommodations. The Pump Room is a must!Genuine Expedia guest review
Service, Lobby, Coffee Bar and The Pump Room were and are impeccable!!! A great place to walk at any time of day or night. The only p part was that the rooms were showing some wear and tear. Seams in carpet starting to separate and fray. There was a retrofit electrical conduit that ran about 4' in front of the air conditioner that was unsightly. Some […] areas of water damage ito the walls in some of the hallways. It was for these reasons that I gave the overall stay 3 out of 5 rating. All other items were just perfect. This is my third stay at the PUBLIC. I just love this hotel. Friendly staff, great bar and restaurant, library, gym. Swank and Inclusive, a rare and awesome combo!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was a very "hip" and at times the front desk and valet seemed overwhelmed. They were very pleasant but just not enough staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The common areas are nice, the gym is lacking and so is the room. The AC system is outdated and there isnt even separate shampoo and conditioner. Not a 4 star hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful Neighborhood - Walk to Michigan Avenue"

"A Perfect Chicago Experience"
We came to the city to see our sons. The location is perfect for visiting Lincoln Park to the north and the city to the south. The neighborhood alone is worth making sure you take time for a morning walk, we even ran across a farmers market .Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great new and swanky hotel"
The room seems bigger than what it is and had a modern feel but felt pretty swanky also. The rooms look like they bought the furniture from IKEA.Genuine Expedia guest review
In Typical Ian Shrager fashion, a trendy atmosphere mixed with sophistication and elegance. The Pump Room restaurant by Jean George Vongerichten was an added bonus. You can't go wrong with a combination like that! And a few blocks from the beach and the shops on oak street you couldn't ask for a better location. We definitely found our new go to in […] Chicago. "Excellent place to stay."
Located within just a few minutes of Michigan Ave and all the shops. PUBLIC has an excellent location. Loved the abilitly to just walk out the front and have the ability to walk any where and every where within a few minutes. This is a deal for the nice quality of the hotel. Highly recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
""Service is the most important thing." Not."
Wasn't aware that PUBLIC is primarily a trendy hot spot & this hot spot takes over the hotel’s main floor at night. Arrived late Friday, passed the crowd and bouncer at the door, and entered the music-blaring, crowded lobby. Not the best environment for checking in and getting to the elevator. No room for us to have a drink at the bar. Ironically, chose […] the hotel based on the description of the bar. Saturday night, came back from the Cubs game and wanted a drink & dessert, but it was packed again. Restaurant was practically empty, as it was 10:55. Asked the manager if we could be served there, explaining that we were guests. No. Couldn't sit at a table in the restaurant (which is really the same room as the bar) because we weren't ordering dinner. Couldn't sit in the library because it was bottle service only. Couldn't sit in the bar because obviously it's first come first served. They go on about their exceptional service. Exceptional service would have been to let us sit at a table or get us something to take up to the room. Restaurant is open til 12, so called room service. Room service ends at 11, so we missed it. Exceptional service would have been to bring us dessert & a drink anyway. We weren't treated as guests at all. On top of horrible service, the bed was a mattress covered with a duvet on a piece of wood. No box spring, no top sheet. Low end disguised at trend. Lighting was great. I would recommend this hotel only to a club kid who has never known good service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, good location"
Nice hotel that is walking distance to a lively area. Very nice and helpful staff! I will stay there the next time I visit Chicago.Genuine Expedia guest review
The staff was friendly and attentive. The hotel was very clean. I highly recommend the Public!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I've stayed here on business, and when I knew I was coming to town for a friends wedding, I passed on staying at the Wyndam Grand Riverfront and opted for the Public... That was my mistake. Here were the problems: 1. King bed reserved, Full bed in the room - maybe small queen? Far from King. I sleep a queen at home, if I'm spending $500 a night, I want […] a bigger bed. 2. Upon arrival, I was ignored at the front desk as a wedded couple took photo's behind me. They weren't your only guests, and I too had somewhere to be - a wedding. 3. When I got to my room it was unlocked and open. Inside there was an extension cord running from the bathroom to a large industrial fan on the floor in the center of the room. 3. The room had basically been flooded. 4. When I called and questioned, they didn't offer a new room and instead just came and got the fan! 5. It was 90+ and humid in Chicago and the AC went out that night. I'm not being nitpicky, each of these events happened, and I will never stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Disappointed... Not what I expected."
I booked a room with a queen bed and they put us in a room with two double beds. No hair dryer in room. Dark, dim hallways. Parking was an additional $52. I will not be staying here again.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Insulation between rooms is lacking."
If you have loud neighbors, you will hear them! The bathroom light kept burning out, and the drain was slow - however both were fixed promptly when I told the front desk about them. For the price, I would stay here again but if I didn't get a deal on Expedia I wouldn't pay the full rate for this hotel - it isn't worth it. In Conclusion, if you can get […] a sub $130 (not incl. tax) rate per night book it otherwise look elsewhere. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
