"Not so friendly"
I stayed at this hotel for a night while on business. Hotel is beautiful and rooms are quiet and located near a lot. However i was told by the valet when i arrived that the service was complimentary, which it wasnt when i received a bill the following day. Stay in Mid Town Hotels are newer , nice and the staff are generally more competent . As mentioned in the title I have lived in Atlanta for 45 years and have stayed at many hotels here for business and pleasure. Recently booked a trip to stay at Marriott Marquis. Never stayed there before but remember how cool it was back in 85 when it opened (junior […] in HS). Called night before after booking to make sure they received my request to stay up high room . They did receive request and said I could come in before 4 pm checkin on Saturday. I arrived at 3:30 but it took us 30 minutes to valet ($35 parking at hotel). When arrived inside their was line 30 deep to check in. I went around line to complain to assistant and got moved to front of line (didn't make any friends with other guests). Once there found no rooms ready. What? No rooms ready ... They have 1600 rooms here. Glad I didn't stand in that line. Those other poor people stayed in line for 30 minutes just to hear the same thing I did. My gf and I had function to go to so they had us change in the spa bathroom. No perks offered like sorry for your problems here's free parking or a spa massage. Nope. The bartender heard all about it from us and nicely comp drinks. Went to our function called hotel 6:30 pm ... Room not ready and oh yeah they only put us on 28th floor not the 37th they told us. Finally check in at 10:30 pm and after much complaining they comp parking. The hotel is old and showing it. Now the concept is cool and it is must to see the large atrium (2nd biggest in world) but you will do much better staying in Mid Town. The hotels are new, nice, it's much safer than downtown Atlanta and the staffs in Mid Town are just generally more friendly and service minded. If you must stay in Atlanta and want that high end feel the Ritz is worth the extra few bucks. The Loews in Mid Town and others like it you will be glad you did. Our room was great, staff was great, high velocity restaurant/bar downstairs is awesome! Great food & drinks stays open till 1am I believe. I felt comfortable there more so than I did at my last stay at the Westin (which is more expensive) -- there were homeless people out in the street around the hotel but I do understand there really isn't much they […] can do about it. I just wouldn't advise women to go out alone at night or even in a group. Homeless men in this area are NOT afraid to approach you. I was very impressed also by the staff when I left my wallet in my room & had already driven back home 2 hours away & noticed. They got my wallet before check in that day & sent me an email on how to get it shipped back. Very helpful & easy! Anytime we return to Atlanta, we will be staying at the Marriott marquis! & to top it off, there is a Starbucks inside & a cute little gift shop. The parking lot was always full. No valet parking. No in and out at the lot down the street and around the corner. "Okay for the Price"
The hotel, aesthetically, was beautiful. The rooms were clean and spacious. It had a real luxurious feel to it. However, charging $19/day for wi-fi, $6 for a bottle of water, $4 if you wanted to have your food reheated by the hotel staff (because there were no microwaves) when I'm already paying $200 /night for a suite is absolutely ridiculous. Also, […] I was on the 31st floor, and if I wanted to have food delivered (because I didn't want to pay $20 for a burger from the in-room dining menu), I had to go meet the delivery man in the lobby to pick up my food. That's a huge inconvenience and one that I wouldn't expect to deal with from a hotel who's charging me over $200/night. "Can do better"
This hotel let me down big time. I have to declare I booked this hotel for one night and due to some problem we couldn't arrive till 2 AM. Essentially we stayed there for 8 hrs. We were 4 adults in a double bed room. The first room we were given was a dirty room. At 3:00 in the morning, after all the traffic and driving we were still shifting rooms. […] There was no Bell Boy and we had to cart our own luggage. At least the hotel offered us complimentary internet because of all the moving troubles. The garage was closed and the hotel staff did not offer any kind of help to help me park in the dead of the night, in Downtown Atlanta. It was a frustrating day so far. The room was small but functional. The room was clean but AC was non-existent. We kept the room at 64 but we were all sweating. It was not comfortable. The water bottle was $6 for a cheap Deerpark-like 500 ML bottle. I have seen better star hotels, giving crisp cold Evian or Voss for $6. But unchilled deerpark-like for $6. Whatever, everybody had bath and decided to go to Starbucks in the lobby. By the way, there were only two bath towels for all of us. I have seen cheap motels having more towels, if not for anything else. The Starbucks did not have any microwave to heat up the croissants and couple of items on their menu was not available. The frustration continued. PROS; The architecture was cool, tall building in the heart of downtown. Walking distance to all the major tourist attractions. Conclusion: Disappointed. "Not great when busy"
This was the second time I have stayed at this Marriott. We attend a large convention every year and because of the lay out of the hotel it is nearly impossible to utilize the elevators (20-30 minute wait for an elevator with room if you are in one of the top floors). Bellhops were unavailable for us a check in and after waiting 45 minutes we gave up […] at check out. Staff members were either incredible or lackluster, with no in-between. Beds are incredibly comfortable but the rooms are showing some wear and tear for the cost of the room. Sear breakfast buffet was amazing but $25 per person.
