Room way smaller than it looks online.There is a resort fee of 30ish USD night, and parking is not included in your rate. The charges really add up (500+ USD). Would not stay here again. "Clean and new but noisy"
The hotel is newly remodled and clean but street noise is high and the AC unit is noisy. They put me on the third floor on a Monday evening and it was very noisy as a dump truck was idling outside until 3am as the city did trash collection. "Fun in the City"
There with friends. Very nice hotel. It was a convenient location except that most of our restaurant choices were in the Soho area but nice walking area. "Sweating without air conditioning"
I stayed here for two nights in mid-October. I arrived after 10pm my first night, and the thermostat showed that the room was 75 degrees. It was a muggy evening, and the air didn't work. The manager said they'd already switched to heat and that I should open the window (which opens a few inches and wouldn't have helped anyway). I requested a fan but […] it didn't help. Woke up sweating throughout the night and got horrible sleep. Another manager called the next night to inquire, and I relayed the story. He blamed it on the "two pipe system" and said this was very common in NYC. Not so. After my work event at night, I called four other hotels in a block or so proximity (Dream, Wellington, Marriott Essex, and Crowne Plaza Times) -- they all had their air on. Classic case of caring about the bottom line more than guests. When I emailed the manager back with this information, I got a snarky email about how I put him out because he'd "specifically allocated time to speak with" me and how all of us a sudden that morning the chief engineer had put the air back on. Our Heat and Cooling system is a two pipe system. At any given time, we can only have air-conditioning, heating or circulation of natural air in the building. Due to the fluctuation in temperatures in the Fall, our Engineering Team monitors the temperature 24/7, and we provide heat when the temperature drops below 50 degrees. We also monitor guest temperature requests, for example if the majority of our guests are asking for heat we will adjust accordingly. When we checked in we were presented with a room rental agreement that added an extra facilities charge to the amount of the fee booked through hotels.com. We protested and the facilities charge was scratched through on the room rental agreement before I signed. I asked for a photocopy of the room rental agreement and the hotel refused. The first room we had smelled like mildew, so we switched. The second room we switched to smelled even worse of mildew unless we turned on the AC. For room costing $400, it faced the wall! Bath room used dispenser n body wash was empty n the others almost empty! Room was not sound proof enough! No coffee maker. On balance I was very satisfied with the location, comfort and convenience of the hotel. Two things irked me: First was the "facilities charge; $20/day, ostensibly for Wi-Fi and their gym. "Only thing worth staying here for is the LOCATION"
Booking the hotel was the easiest part of our stay. We flew in from Los Angeles to visit NYC with some friends. Upon arrival, we realized our hotel room was not as the one pictured on their website. We had requested a double-bed room, however, we came to find a room with two beds (which was fine), and a closet which separated the beds (almost like two […] separate rooms with an awkward wall in between).Hotel staff was nice in the lobby, however, when trying to reach housekeeping, or concierge, 9 out of 10 times, nobody picked up and the phone kept ringing. The shower curtains smelled horribly, especially after/during showers (should probably clean more efficiently). Housekeeping constantly knocked on our door, even when requested not to, at 8:00am every day. This hotel has NO ROOM SERVICE.. That’s a first. The elevators are extremely inefficient; we waited about 5 minutes each time we wanted to go up or downstairs. The ice machines on the floors DO NOT work. We had to scramble on different floors of the hotel in order to retrieve ice each day. Store’s shop, which included water, snacks, etc., closes way earlier than stated. After reading many reviews I booked with some trepidation. All concerns were assuaged upon arrival. Staff was friendly and helpful, courteous and efficient. Hotel common spaces and rooms were clean and well appointed. Communication of the resort fee and the reasons for it were complete and accurate, contradicting some negative reviews read prior to […] arrival. Don't be fooled by the advertised rate. There are add on costs. They charge $40 a night "facilities fee." This is for thinks like the internet even if you don't use it.
