Location, room, overall service were fine, the complementary breakfast was excellent. Free Internet access in the room worked well. The crew was friendly, and helpful. The only cons were the loud A/C in the room and the parking fee ($16/night), but seems to be in S.D. there is no free parking... I would stay again.

Great staff, Very clean... they even made cookies for you at the front desk every night (awesome cookies). The area was scummy. I would not walk around at night at all and even didnt like being so close the the emergency exit (which was left open!!!?) If you are doing business and need to be that close to the downtown area then it is a decent hotel. If you are on vacation and looking for a resort or safer environment I dont suggest this hotel. Stay closer to the ocean or hotel circle. I love holiday inn but ill skip this one next time, maybe try one outside the downtown area.

The hotel was clean and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It is very close the the Gaslamp Quarter and convienient if you are going to Petco Park or the San Diego Zoo. Would recommend this hotel.

This hotel far exceeded my expectations. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The room had a great view overlooking the city. We were within walking distance of just about everything and the hotel offered a shuttle to the zoo,etc. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again.

On the computer, the rooms and pool looked much bigger. There were only three lounges at the pool! The room seemed very cramped as well as the small elevators. The beed were comfortable....but we would have loved more elbow room.

This Hotel is older with nice upgraded rooms for the price. The breafast was great! The elevator is always busy and tends to be slow. The parking garage is very tight, large vehicles WILL have difficulty and will need to take extra care to make the sharp turns.

The Holiday Inn Express was a great hotel for the price you pay. Everything looked newly remodeled. The hotel is in a great location downtown and within walking distance to whatever you want to do.

This hotel offered great rooms and services for the money. The rooms have been nicely updated and were very clean. The hotel offers a free breakfast, free wireless internet, free parking, and a free shuttle to local attractions. Wow! The front desk staff at all shifts were very helpful with getting us checked in and making great suggestions for local restaurants. The hotel location is great for downtown attractions as well as nearby Balboa Park. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it, highly.

The hotel is great. We stayed for 5 days and would definitely stay there again. It is in a nice location and convenient to so much in the Downtown San Diego area and close to the highways. The rooms were very clean, comfortable beds, very clean bathrooms. We requested to be moved to a room with a balcony and view of the bay/marina. We were reassigned the next morning as soon as one was available. The staff was friendly and pleasant. Complimentary breakfast was available, which was nice. No charge for internet and the hotel has computers in the lobby connected to printers, which came in handy to print tickets and receipts for tourist attractions that we had prepaid. There is a small pool outside. The only issue was the elevator. It was incredibly slow.

Been staying in different hotel on different occassions and I would say this one is great for the money (considering its pre "Comicon" dates). Rooms may not be as big as other hotels but two queen beds are comfortable enough for a couple and two kids. Room attendants are quick to replenish sundries and clean towels as well as clean the room. Complimentary breakfast is awesome. The only thing I would give other future guests a heads up to is the parking (not free, but is understandable since hotel is in the heart of San Diego) you have to be an experienced driver in order to get your way in and way out on the steep and compact driveway. In general though, hotel and its staff are all nice. I will not have a second thought recommending this site to friends.

Personnel were very friendly and were eager to be of service. The parking fee of $16 was reasonable for the area. A 30-45 minute walk to Gaslamp area and convention center; the same in the other direction to the excellent zoo and Balboa Park museums.

Rooms are small, bathroom even more so. Hotel is on a steep hill with the entrance to the parking lot from another hill. Parking lot is not suited to full sized vans or SUVs.

The hotel was clean and the folks were extremely friendly. The room and bathroom were neat and clean. The complementary breakfast was really nice too. Not just pastries and oj, but hot food and a dining room with a tv. They also provide a shuttle service to nearby sites so I thougth that was really convenient and added to the overall value of the hotel. For an overnight stay it was great. I would definately stay here again.

This is an ok hotel for the money. When I researched rooms in San Diego, this one had the best bang for the buck in the $100/night price range. But, if you want to stay here, you better be driving a compact car. Their parking garage in unbelievably small. We were in a Ford Explorer sport trac and three point turns were needed in some area's. Now for the second fun part. There are only two elevators and they are located on the north side of the hotel. So guess, what, if you're booked in a room on the south side of the hotel, then you get to drag your luggage from one side of the hotel to the other. Lastly,the king size bed room they gave us was nice, only it faced the street. When I requested a room that faced the pool with a balcony and closer to the elevator I was told that none of the balcony rooms had king size beds. Next morning as we're making our way to breakfast, I saw a balcony room with a king sized bed being cleaned. So, not only is the front desk staff rude, but they lie. Would I stay here again? Yes, but only if I had a balcony room, with a king sized bed, near the elevators. BTW, the hotel has just been remodeled and the rooms are nice.

Upon our arrival at the Amtrak Station I called the hotel and a van picked us up within 15 minutes. When we arrived the staff was pleasant, helpful, professional and courteous and had our room ready within minutes of checking in early. The room was very neat, clean and comfortable. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of downtown, the mall Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp District. The breakfast was great with hot food, a step above the usual continental breakfast. Don't forget to get your warm baked cookies at 8!!! It was a wonderful experience overall.

Three amenities that set this hotel apart were the very nice full breakfast each morning,the shuttle service to and pick-up from nearby attractions and the re-cycle philosophy. One night when the shuttle was not available when we were going to the opera, the hotel paid for a cab to take us. We have never had that kind of service. We also appreciate the hotel having a re-cycle can in the room showing they care about the environment.

Nice central location. Easy walking distance to Convention Center, Balboa Park, Little Italy, and Embarcadero. Fitted sheets on bed! Nice touch. No obvious option to request towel and bedding not be changed daily. This is surprising given that California is suffering a drought. Breakfast OK. At least real food and not just sweet rolls.

Our experience with this hotel was pretty good. The hotel staff were friendly and eager to assist. Our bathroom was really small but very clean. The elevators could use some improvement, such as they are really slow moving and make loud metal on metal noises every once in a while. The Continental Breakfast buffet was pretty good, you dont usually get eggs and sausage at other hotels. There is a charge for parking in the garage but it is better than parking on the street. Parking will be added to your bill and was not a bad price per day. Also conviniently across the street was a Dominoes Pizza which was nice when you want to eat cheap and quick. It is within walking distance from Little Italy and the main Gaslamp Quarter on 4th Street. All in all it was a great weekend.

One of the best prices we could find for the area, airport and zoo shuttle were very convenient. Clean, friendly.

The hotel was very clean and the staff were very nice. However, the location of the hotel made the experience more stressful. If you like the downtown feel than you will enjoy this hotel; however if you want the convenience of a great selection of restaurants or shopping, this is not the hotel for you. Also, you have to pay for parking. Which was a little pricey considering you are paying for the hotel room too. Overall, the hotel was nice and the room was clean. Just the location and the fact I had to pay for parking made this hotel somewhere I would not stay again.

This hotel had a fantastic location; less than five minutes away from the Gaslamp District. Our plans changed in that our group needed a room with an extra bed, and the front desk made it happen, no questions asked, on New Year's Eve no less. Very clean, great condition. Parking lot is underground and a little cramped, but it beats finding street parking. Great stay, would absolutely recommend.

their parking lot is under construction so the guest must pay to park in the parking garage. and its a flat rate added to your bill. would have been nice to know all of that before hand

We requested a non smoking room with two double beds on the third floor facing west over the carport. The city view was great and we could see the water between the towers. The room was very clean and well upgraded although the bathroom door is very narrow and against the doorjamb of the room entry door. There is a wardrobe that has drawers a TV, minibar and safe. Hanging clothes are exposed just inside the front door on a bar along with the ironing board. There are no closet doors. The complimentary breakfast was typical of the self-serve with juice, hot and cold pastries, fruit, cereal, meats coffee and instant eggs (the standard everywhere). We arrived late and still the whole breakfast buffet was well stocked with everything. The room is also very nice. We were not rushed. The front desk staff was terrific and helpful with our needs regarding local points of interest. My only issue is that the rooms offer limited sound containment - especially if you have a rude and argumentative neighbor stumbling back from the bars on a Saturday night and talking on their balcony. I could have drowned him out with the air conditioning but he passed out after an hour of "personal issues" and the rest of the evening was silent. The garage is a bit of a subterranean maze with columns and narrow turns up half levels, but the spaces were wide. The parking fee is $14 per day (reasonable). The pool was out of commission at the time of our stay, but we had not planned on using it. I would definitely recommend this hotel and plan to stay again there.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn Express. One thing people should be aware of is that there is no restaurant in the hotel, and few within a short walk. Room service is provided by an adjacent cafe, and while the food is fine, the choices are limited--and the service shuts down at 9 pm. There are only two elevators (and slow ones) for a large hotel. Breakfast is included and is fine of its type, the standard hotel buffet. One plus is a free shuttle which will drive guests to various destinations as well as the airport. I found the desk staff very friendly and helpful. The free wireless hook-up worked well.

Staff is friendly, room was clean. Half the price of most hotels downtown. Free breakfast was pretty decent. The parking structure is quite a gauntlet though. Don't scrape your car driving through it.

I hate the idea of having to pay to park at a hotel after paying hundreds of dollars to stay there. Tiny bathrooms. Great location, good views.
