"Ok hotel but not centrally located."
The hotel was ok, bar tender was the best and nicest out of all the people, and they offer a decent dinner for 15 euro per person. BUT you may be just 20 minutes walking from the colosseum but other than that you are 2+ miles from anything because u are on the opposite side of it all. There are not many places to eat, get gelato or see. I would normally […] not mind but the 4 days we were there the WiFi was down and the entire staff was very blunt and not warming or accommodating. This hotel was older than expected, but it met our needs and it was well-maintained. The staff was very nice and helpful, even though they were very busy. It is right across from a Tram station that takes you to the main Terminal in Rome, which is very convenient since that is where you find the tour buses, airport shuttles, metro stations, etc. Our […] room was a little tight since we had three beds, but we only were there to sleep and it was always clean, which was what was important to us. "Advertised Amenities Do Not Exist"
We booked this hotel for a brief over night before leaving for a cruise. We had minimal requirements that did not extend far beyond the basics for a 3 star hotel. My wife and I have traveled to Rome before, and knew that a few criteria were a must: A/C (especially for the summer), an en suite bathroom (w/c), late check-in, and wifi. This hotel advertised […] all of the above. Once we arrived, we found the a/c not working. After bringing this to the staffs attention, they told us that they don't run the a/c until the summer. It was defiantly summer - which I expressed, then they said they will fix it tomorrow; great, since we were only there for one night :( . The bathroom had the towels awaiting us in the bidet. The television randomly turned itself on and off, so we unplugged it. Do to the warmth, we opened the window only to find that at 4 am - like a Hitchcock movie meeting my cousin vinny - hundreds of screeching birds were flying by our window well into 9 am. To top it all off, the wifi was only available in the lobby, but it did not work. I tried for an hour with a room of many other frustrated guests. All the staff said was "it works" but did nothing to make sure or even check to see that it was truly not working. My advice, if you are looking at this hotel, just book a hostel. If you are looking for basic amenities, at minimum book a 4 star hotel when in Rome. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"You get your money's worth"
This is a great 3 star hotel - nice and clean, staff is great. The location is not ideal as I thought - though it is in the city center - its on far end. The metro is a 10 minuet walk which is great. Don't count on the breakfast (they don't offer much) - but overall the place is great!Genuine Expedia guest review
Couldn't check in until 2pm on the dot, even though it was pouring rain and we were clearly soaked, and it was about 12:30 when we got there. The ac was broken in our room so it was hot. The bathroom smelled like rotten sewage and we weren't sure if it was the water or not. Breakfast was no more than a croissant and some cereal. It was however located […] next to a bus stop. Had we figured out the bus routes we would have taken them. It was about a 10 min walk to the metro which the desk guys weren't very helpful in finding. Room is fine with so high ceiling, yeah it is Clean. But they have this thin towels, quite hard pillow (me and my partner had a neck sore the next morning) You have to wait for a while for the shower to get a hot water. "Did not meet expectations"
Other than the bus stop across the street nothing about this location was convenient. VERY limited restaurants in the area. The wait staff in the hotel restaurant was so rude, we didn't even stay for our dinner reservations. There is nothing to do close to the hotel so you couldn't find any entertainment close to hotel closer to the evening hours. NO […] INTERNET in rooms, not even wired! The staff was not helpful and at time downright rude. The room smelled of mold at first but had a balcony so aired out quickly. If I could have gotten a refund, I would have changed hotels. "Big hotel on a busy street"
I knew that this hotel was near major streets and not far from the train station, so I made a major error in not asking for a room away from the street. The roar of traffic was very, very loud -- a combination of a major intersection for regular traffic and heavy vehicles, the screech of streetcars, to roar of motorcycles, and the background sound of […] the train. If we'd had a different room, I don't think it would have been half as loud, but as it was, it was not easy to sleep. On the other hand, the hotel staff was extremely professional and more than ordinarily efficient. They helped us in every possible way to organize a packed breakfast for an early departure and they were a good source of information. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Hotel was not too far from train station, a bit of a walk to everything else. Biggest con was all of the staff were extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. "The beds were awful. Lots of mold!"
The people that worked there were very nice and the air conditioning worked great. However, there was a lot of mold in the bathroom. Mold was all over the shower and the walls. It was even growing on the plug for the hair dryer. We actually went and bought Clorox because it was so gross. This was definitely not a three star hotel. We had to change rooms […] because the third bed was awful. It wasn't much better in the new room but they showed us two new rooms and this one was the best of the three. The blankets were not clean. Over all the hotel was very good. Very helpful staff. Very good food in the restaurant. My big complaint. Hotel claims to have 205 air conditioned rooms. "Great hotel in a great location!"
Perfect location! This was our first trip to Rome so we spent most of our days visiting famous locations. We could easily walk to many tourist attractions (like the Colosseum) or, if our destination was a little to far (like the Vatican), we were only a 10 minute walk from the main train station (Roma Termini). There were several restaurants nearby […] as well. All in all, it was very convenient to get where ever we wanted to go. The only complaint we had was having to pay to use the wi-fi connection only to learn that there's no access from the rooms, only from the wi-fi room located on the first floor. "Just OK, nothing more."
This hotel was average and very typical of a European three star hotel. The rooms are small but have all the necessities; tiny television, tiny bathroom (awful shower), hair dryer, mini fridge, a kettle and a controllable heater. From the window, the view of the old wall is very charming. With the windows closed we did not hear any noise from the busy […] street below us; however we did hear the shower and hair dryer from the room next to us. In addition to this, the cleaning staff are extremely noisy and you can hear every sound in the hallways starting at 7.30 am. This did now allow us to sleep in, but as we were interested in sightseeing, we did not really mind waking up early. The continental buffet breakfast was very nice. The staff were polite and helpful, except for the older lady at the front desk who was extremely arrogant and did not seem too care much for tourists. She also gave us a room directly next to the renovation area of the hotel (though there were other empty rooms available), which was quite noisy during the day and made it impossible to rest. In conclusion, we enjoyed our stay because we only slept there and were out most of the time, but considering the large number of hotels in Rome (and in the same or better price range), we decided to try another hotel for our second week there. I would only recommend this hotel if you find it at a discounted price and don't mind being a few kilometers away from the center of Rome. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Value for money"
We were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival. The hotel seemed nicer than what we expected. The concierge was most helpful (older man with glasses, tall and thin) he pointed out many places we would enjoy and told us all the appropriate bus and tram numbers. Although the room was nice, the bed was hard and the pillows were far too large and firm. The […] breakfast service was OK - be sure to get in early, and don't expect anything other than a continental breakfast (as it states). The restaurant however, I would avoid. The staff seem very unhappy and the food is not up to standard for the price. My partner felt we were treated differently due to being only English speaking. Overall, for what we paid, we were happy, but would have taken advantage of room service if it were available despite the unsatisfactory restaurant experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel and location."
The staff and Hotel were nice and I had a wonderful view of the Roman gate across the piazza, and the tram hub just outside is really handy. The only problem was that I had to keep the window closed at night due to the noise of the traffic which meant the room did heat up, but that's not really the Hotel's problem as Roman drivers are crazy.Genuine Expedia guest review
"The WORST hotel experience I have ever encountered."
Me and my boyfriend showed up at the Portamaggiore Hotel which we booked well in advance, to be told that there was a 'problem' with our room and that we would have to be relocated to the 'four star' hotel down the street. We were tired after our flight and did not put up a fight, but when we showed up at the so-called four star hotel down the street […] we were absolutely appalled. The room that they put us in was on the ground floor, right next to reception, and right next to the maid closet and kitchen. It was literally a back up room that is only used in emergencies and which no paying guest of that hotel would ever be placed in.There were no windows in the room and you could hear absolutely EVERY word that people were saying in reception. We complained and were told that we would be moved back to the Portamaggiore Hotel in the morning when the 'problem' had been resolved. No one could tell us what the problem was so we never did find out. We were also told that the Portamaggiore Hotel would provide us with a bottle of wine that night to compensate for having to move us to an alternative hotel. We never got that wine. After the most horrendous night's sleep, we got moved to the Portamaggiore Hotel the next morning and were placed in the room we had booked but were treated as if we were in the wrong when we complained about our treatment, and above all, the four star hotel even tried to make us pay for staying there, AND at their four star rate! I will never ever come back to this hotel ever again, and i have never been treated this poorly as a paying customer on their holiday. It ruined what was supposed to be a special birthday weekend. The location of the hotel is in a ghetto area. If you are in the upper floor (4 and 5), think of using the stairs as there is only one slow and outdated elevator. The breakfast is very simple. "Hotel is in convenient location with trams & buses"
We had a dissappointment on arrival on 19 Aug 2013 that our Hotel Portamaggiore had to re-located us to nearby Hotel Daniela which was slightly inferior in quality (we suspected it was due to overbooking). What made the matter worst was that Hotel Daniela had electricity breakdown the next morning and we had to go to another nearby hotel for breakfast. Since […] Hotel Portamaggiore only had room for us for 20 Aug and 21 August 2013, we then moved back to Hotel Portamaggiore on 20 Aug 2013. What was also dissappointing was that the hotel staff told us that they did not want to put us in the hotel on 19 Aug 2013 due to the noisy group of students staying. We even said we didn't mind the noise but they still would not let us stay, which is why we suspected that the hotel was overbooked.
