"good value for money"
A nice pleasant stay with good breakfast... but the air conditioning did not work during the last night so I had to open the windows and because of that I had a bit of a rough night... street is noisy but with windows closed and air conditioning it's quite fineGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect for a short stay"
Our stay was pleasant, staff friendly and welcoming. The hotel was only a few blocks away from the metro station, which is very convenient for getting around. One thing that had us concerned was, when u leave the hotel for the day they ask you to leave the room key with them. When you return you would ask for it back, and they don't ID you.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel but poor breakfast"
Hotel room was very nice and comfy, but the toalet could be a little bit cleaner. Breakfast was very cheap 'Italian style' - some pastries with cheap coffee.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Staff, location, breakfast, everything."
Very friently, went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, memorable and stress free. Have travelled the world extensively, Some people are spoilt rotten, you get what you choose to pay - We could not ask for anything better. Well done staff, be proud of such a lovely hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
Wonderful hotel, We cannot understand why this hotel is not a 5 star......The staff are very helpful and friendly, good food and extremely clean. We also found it was in the ideal location with frequent trams which stopped outside the hotel and only a 10minute walk to the Termini. We would definitely stay here again and once again thank you for making […] my 50th birthday a very special one. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Just OK, nothing more."
This hotel was average and very typical of a European three star hotel. The rooms are small but have all the necessities; tiny television, tiny bathroom (awful shower), hair dryer, mini fridge, a kettle and a controllable heater. From the window, the view of the old wall is very charming. With the windows closed we did not hear any noise from the busy […] street below us; however we did hear the shower and hair dryer from the room next to us. In addition to this, the cleaning staff are extremely noisy and you can hear every sound in the hallways starting at 7.30 am. This did now allow us to sleep in, but as we were interested in sightseeing, we did not really mind waking up early. The continental buffet breakfast was very nice. The staff were polite and helpful, except for the older lady at the front desk who was extremely arrogant and did not seem too care much for tourists. She also gave us a room directly next to the renovation area of the hotel (though there were other empty rooms available), which was quite noisy during the day and made it impossible to rest. In conclusion, we enjoyed our stay because we only slept there and were out most of the time, but considering the large number of hotels in Rome (and in the same or better price range), we decided to try another hotel for our second week there. I would only recommend this hotel if you find it at a discounted price and don't mind being a few kilometers away from the center of Rome. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Enjoyed my stay"
I booked 7 nights at this hotel and did some exploring in Rome. The staff are fine and the rooms are clean and perfectly adequate. Only a 10 min walk to a metro that will get you anywhere. Very happy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"close to interesting sights"
Good location of Hotel. Service is satisfied, but might be better. The room is not quiet. Surrounding neighbourhood is too noisy. Cost of WiFi should be included into the daily rate. It should be a/v for any time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
great hotel and location , shame about 100+ schoolkids who were staying there at the same time !!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Value for money"
We were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival. The hotel seemed nicer than what we expected. The concierge was most helpful (older man with glasses, tall and thin) he pointed out many places we would enjoy and told us all the appropriate bus and tram numbers. Although the room was nice, the bed was hard and the pillows were far too large and firm. The […] breakfast service was OK - be sure to get in early, and don't expect anything other than a continental breakfast (as it states). The restaurant however, I would avoid. The staff seem very unhappy and the food is not up to standard for the price. My partner felt we were treated differently due to being only English speaking. Overall, for what we paid, we were happy, but would have taken advantage of room service if it were available despite the unsatisfactory restaurant experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Steet facing rooms are very noisy"
their wed site doesn't say that they turn the AC off during 'winter' - this is misleading. when you close the windows (especially the street facing rooms) to reduce the noise - you can't breath in the rooms. they also don't (by default) put a kettle cups in your room. if you don't asked, they do provide. if I haven't read the web site again to see that […] they offer kettle and coffee - we would never have known. staff in the restaurant is not friendly to 'non-Italians' Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel and location."
The staff and Hotel were nice and I had a wonderful view of the Roman gate across the piazza, and the tram hub just outside is really handy. The only problem was that I had to keep the window closed at night due to the noise of the traffic which meant the room did heat up, but that's not really the Hotel's problem as Roman drivers are crazy.Genuine Expedia guest review
"The WORST hotel experience I have ever encountered."
Me and my boyfriend showed up at the Portamaggiore Hotel which we booked well in advance, to be told that there was a 'problem' with our room and that we would have to be relocated to the 'four star' hotel down the street. We were tired after our flight and did not put up a fight, but when we showed up at the so-called four star hotel down the street […] we were absolutely appalled. The room that they put us in was on the ground floor, right next to reception, and right next to the maid closet and kitchen. It was literally a back up room that is only used in emergencies and which no paying guest of that hotel would ever be placed in.There were no windows in the room and you could hear absolutely EVERY word that people were saying in reception. We complained and were told that we would be moved back to the Portamaggiore Hotel in the morning when the 'problem' had been resolved. No one could tell us what the problem was so we never did find out. We were also told that the Portamaggiore Hotel would provide us with a bottle of wine that night to compensate for having to move us to an alternative hotel. We never got that wine. After the most horrendous night's sleep, we got moved to the Portamaggiore Hotel the next morning and were placed in the room we had booked but were treated as if we were in the wrong when we complained about our treatment, and above all, the four star hotel even tried to make us pay for staying there, AND at their four star rate! I will never ever come back to this hotel ever again, and i have never been treated this poorly as a paying customer on their holiday. It ruined what was supposed to be a special birthday weekend. "Not worth the money"
The location of the hotel is in a ghetto area. If you are in the upper floor (4 and 5), think of using the stairs as there is only one slow and outdated elevator. The breakfast is very simple. You will see a lot of older people in the hotel so if you have a question from the front desk, it will take a good half a hour before you get to them since there […] are a lot of old people who come with very simple questions, e.g, how to use the key to open the door or how to use the shower, etc. Also, there is not internet in the room. This hotel was very clean and the staff super friendly. The restaurant downstairs is great value for money for dinner but breakfast is a bit simple - just croissants and toast. This was an excellent hotel to relax in and to use as a base to see sights all over Rome. It is one of the best hotels we have stayed in for everything, including staff professionalism.Genuine Expedia guest review

Expected more from hotel in comparison to ones previously stayed at with similar ratings and cheaper prices. "Hotel is in convenient location with trams & buses"
We had a dissappointment on arrival on 19 Aug 2013 that our Hotel Portamaggiore had to re-located us to nearby Hotel Daniela which was slightly inferior in quality (we suspected it was due to overbooking). What made the matter worst was that Hotel Daniela had electricity breakdown the next morning and we had to go to another nearby hotel for breakfast. Since […] Hotel Portamaggiore only had room for us for 20 Aug and 21 August 2013, we then moved back to Hotel Portamaggiore on 20 Aug 2013. What was also dissappointing was that the hotel staff told us that they did not want to put us in the hotel on 19 Aug 2013 due to the noisy group of students staying. We even said we didn't mind the noise but they still would not let us stay, which is why we suspected that the hotel was overbooked. We were also disappointed that the room did not have free coffee & tea facility, not even a electric hot water kettle. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A good place for local traveln Bus/ Trams/ Train."
We stayed 7 days in April. The hotel was being renovated but it was clean and quiet if you kept the windows closed. "Great Location, Great staff"
NO in room wi-fi, which it stated on hotels.com that it had it, was not happy. But they had a room downstairs where it was available. The location of the hotel was amazing. Step right outside and across the road is conveniently located tram stop. Just outside the door is also a convenient store. The standard triple room was quite small. The tv only […] had one english channel which was blurry. The drain in the shower was bad, it took a long time for the water to go down the pipe. I had to turn the water on and off to let it go down the pipe. The rooms were fine, not worth the price though. We stayed 3 nights and they didn't change the sheets and we were there for 4 nights, but they did change the towels. They didn't change the cups, when they did it didn't seem as though the cups were even clean. The saucers had already been used for some of them. They had exceptionally friendly staff. I had many questions to ask they answered them and helped with with ticket inquiries and the local area. Buffet breakfast was very good. The breakfast, which has come in for a lot of criticism from other guests, was limited but nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. "Do not trust the Photoshopped pictures"
1- This hotel needs refurbishment and it does not look as good as the pictures. All the pictures are taken from some rare good angles and then Photoshopped. 2- If you are a first time visitor to Rome and you would like to see the 'major' historical sites, stroll in the old town, and have some good food, this hotel is not any close. Remember there is […] an insignificant old stone laid everywhere around Rome and any hotel can claim they are close to a historical sites. 3- The hotel's food and breakfast is disappointing and far from what you would expect from 'Italian' food. 4- The neighbourhood is a dirty and ugly one of Rome's. Specially if you walk from the main station to the hotel you will definitely ask yourself 'what is special about this city??'. 5- The description states that you get WiFi in your room but this is not true. WiFi is only available in one of the lounges and they close it at night. Staying in this hotel made my first Rome experience not too good and the only reason I could think for choosing this hotel is the slightly lower price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
