Needs a lot of TLC ceiling tiles were all water damaged, carpets torn and needs paint throughout.

BE WARNED. The Rockaway Hotel is presently an utter mess in the summer of 2013. Complete renovations have only just started. (We stayed for three nights in mid-May.) It was originally a HoJo's inn, it is clear, and has been in need of work for some time, although it appears to have been redecorated about 25 years ago. The out-door swimming pool has […] been removed, and expanded parking installed. The public areas are shabby, and there is damage to the structure from demolition of the pool. The complementary breakfast is nearly non-existant, tho of good quality. Bath supplies were skimpy. That being said, the staff were courteous, and the room was VERY clean, and the bed quite comfortable. There was surprisingly little traffic noise from the nearby highway, or from other occupants of the hotel. Hotel is in dispute with BW-told to renovate more than they feel is necessary. Common areas-in poor repair, carpet filthy! Room-stains on furniture, bedding worn, 1 lamp nonfunctional, another had a burnt out bulb-hotel didn't have bulbs. Had ONE set of towels, no shampoo, conditioner or lotion. Checked in shortly before midnight-didn't realize this […] until 12:30. Went to desk but the guy was asleep. Couldn't wake him. Reported it the next morning-returned that evening-only ONE towel and washcloth, no shampoo, etc. This time we were told they did not have enough towels, gave us an extra hand towel. They also said they did not routinely supply shampoo, etc. They found one packet of shampoo after searching, but because there were two of us, my husband went searching for the Walmart, only to find out it had just closed. We shared the shampoo and gave up on conditioner which was a mess! This SHOULD NOT be listed as a Best Western! It doesn't meet the minimum standards. The lack of Best Western endorsement is there because it does not meet their standards. The problem is NOT just the construction or the skimpy continental breakfast. It is the management who does not have enough towels, does not offer shampoo, etc (industry standard) or rent a carpet cleaner to keep the carpets clean. Unfortunately, we were caught in a situation where hotels in the area were booked full because of area events, and could not get another room. Read more

Chuck behind the desk is the coolest guy on the planet. Hotel looked a little rough (Understandable. Going through rennovations.) Room was clean and cozy. The hotel's right off route 80, and across the street from a great diner (the Hibernia Diner). Very affordable! I recommend.

The hotel looks like it is closed and run down from the outside, but the rooms are surprisingly nice. There were a few minor things that could be fixed like a bent lamp and a bathtub faucet that was not straight. It served our purpose and we were only there one night.

If you're wondering why the nightly rate is so inexpensive, wonder no longer. This hotel is under construction, and pretty shabby. There is no "Best Western" sign because apparently they no longer meet the BW standards, according to the staff there. Staff was pleasant. Room was large, but missing shampoo/conditioner, and not terribly clean. No extra […] blanket but the heat worked. Chuck was a great guy at the office. He apologized for the look of the motel due to renovations and informed that rooms were renovated 1-2 years ago and now the hotel office is being re-built and several other upgrades happening. Room was clean, thermostat and cable tv worked perfectly. Bath room was practically new. Beds were comfortable with 3 pillows […] and 1 long one and clean sheets. Writing desk with lamp. Overall great for the value. Route 80 was basically right outside of the parking lot. Best of ALL was Dunkin Donuts right in the lot, 2 minute walk. Would recommend for other travelers but book through hotel.com for cheaper rate. Their office rate is $110 and i got it for $80 including tax on hotel.com. Read more

The hotel is being renovated. The rugs and curtains in the hallways are very dirty. The room was large. Large walk in closets and jacussi tub. No elevators. Needed to ask to have the room clean.

The hotel was looking a little seedy due to the renovations, but the room itself wasn't bad, although the heater/air conditioner was set at a temp that blew musty air into the room and I started to feel sick, so I just unplugged it. My only real complaint is the lack of a lost & found. Left some brand new (full) bottles of higher end shampoo, conditioner […] & facial wash in the bathroom, and despite calling them soon after checking out, they stated they didn't hold onto it. I had left a pair of shoes at a Sheraton in Hawaii and 2.5 weeks later when I realized it and called them, they still had them and shipped them home for me. Read more

Good room for the price. Parking was a little limited due to construction, however it did not affect our stay. There were two lightbulbs that did not work in our room when we got there. Room was very spacious. Bed was very comfortable. The lobby could use an uplift and the staff could be a little more energetic, but overall it was a great stay on the budget. The hotel is missing a sign so you might miss it if you're driving looking for Best Western.

The hotel is undergoing some construction on the outside of the building. This did not effect sleep though could not hear it in room. Some of the hallways seem to have some what seems to be water damage (wallpaper peeling and bubbling from behind).

I had stayed at this hotel previously for a few nights and was very pleasantly surprised since it wasn't much to look at from the outside. I had booked based on price but the room was great so I didn't hesitate to book it again when I needed a place to stay in NJ for a friend's event. This second experience was not as good as the first. For a good night's sleep, the Select Comfort bed is dressed with premium bedding and triple sheeting. You will have a shower/tub combination, as well as complimentary toiletries and a hair dryer. My room did not open to a patio. There was no LCD TV, just a regular CRT and there was no microwave or fridge (all of which I had during my original stay). The property was located right off of I-80 but poorly lit and I passed it twice before I stopped and asked the front desk where the Best Western was, and they told me that I was already there. The available parking was limited due to renovation taking the space. The ventilation (heat/AC) was inoperable as was the exhaust […] fan in the bathroom. Mirrors fogged up after showering; so I had to use other means to even part my hair. Breakfast buffet was tasty; but extermely meager compared to any other BW or competitors.
