Needed to find a good, reasonable place to stay for my sons hockey tournament in western mass. Didnt want to stay in a hockey hotel with parents and screaming kids. What a find the Old Mills is. It's a B&B for sure; quiet, clean, friendly, great breakfast in the AM..... couldn not have been more pleased.... A+++

I have stayed at this Howard Johnsons several times over the years because it's clean, pretty decent, reasonably priced and convenient to Amherst College.... I really only have two complaints: 1. the towels are small, thin and the texture of sandpaper, 2. it would be nice if they offered eggs and bacon/sausage to their relatively slim brekfast buffet. accessable bathroom needs an overhaul. The sink is to close to the tub, towels were are higher than they should be and the shower head was broken so that I had to stand against the front of the shower to get wet.

The front desk was more than accommodating, friendly and personable. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The only complaint I would have is that there were very few channels on the television. But for visiting your kid at UMass it is perfect if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

The room was simple and clean..comfortable bed. The decor of the hallways is dated if that matters to you. The breakfast was fine...cereal, yogurt, donuts, muffins, toast. Nothing too fancy but adequate. The staff was very pleasant. Not as expensive as some of the other area hotels. Would go back.

The location is great in relation to Amherst College, malls and restaurants. The staff were courteous and helpful. Unfortunately, the room smelled of mildew, the carpet was filthy, the wall paper was peeling, water pressure was low and the beds were too soft.

Everything about our stay at the Amherst/Hadley Howard Johnson Hotel was very enjoyable with one exception. The towels in the bathrooms are very thin and almost rough feeling. Using them made me feel like my skin was getting exfoliated. Think it is time to purchase some new fluffy towels!

We had an adjoining room with some friends who found a bed bug! The hotel offered 40% off and a new room to them, but nothing to us! And another friends shower was filled with long hair! Kinda wishing we had just left!

I stayed at The Howard Johnson Amherst Hadley for a weekend convention. The hotel was clean and simple and that’s all I really need. The customer service was fantastic and when I come back next year I’ll book with them again.

We spent 2 nights in a queen business suite while moving my dad's belongings from his previous residence to a new apartment. He is 90, and needs to have me, or another caregiver, with him. The partitioned-off sitting area was perfect to allow him and his caregiver privacy during the night, and having a fridge, microwave and coffeemaker in the room was […] very helpful. The one difficulty was the bathroom door's night being wide enough for his walker, but he was able to lean on the counter when using the facilities. A higher toilet is also always nice for older travelers, but we can't expect full accessibility everywhere. Overall, a good experience. Read more

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and cleanliness of our room. It was excellent value for the money. Since it is located right on route 9, rooms in the back are quiet. Very convenient for any stay in the five college area.

one bed was great, the other mattress was far too soft- had a mushy quality. the unit is aging and all the vending machines were out of order. the breakfast offerings werre mediocre and the dining area dark. not a bad place but not one i'd go back to for the price- the night before i was at a competitior that was far nicer and $30 cheaper.

Bed was comfy!,room always had a musty smell probably due to no vent in bathroom.Large stain in carpet.Advertised HBO but station was not available when we tried to watch it.Breakfast chooses were slim.

My husband and I had stayed at this hotel twice in the late 1990s, and we had good stays. Unfortunately they have not kept up with the maintenance. It was dingy and not very clean especially in the bathroom which had mold visible on the toilet tank and in the shower. (Apparently the housekeeping staff did not know you can scrub that off.) The breakfast […] was sparse and not replenished often, and the breakfast area was not kept clean over the course of breakfast. I was awakened with a 5 am wake-up call that I did not order on the first two days of my stay. The first morning, the desk clerk was quite apologetic. The second morning--a different desk clerk--looked at me like I was being a jerk for bringing it to his attention. He finally admitted that they were having trouble with the phone system and that the problem seemed to be on my floor. He offered to discout my room for those two nights, but when I checked out--different clerk again--that didn't happen. I handled the phone problem by unplugging the phone. I was due to spend another week in Amherst/Hadley and decided to move to another hotel. I found another place just down the street at the same rate, and it was clean and had good service. Read more

Although hotel was conveniently located to both UMASS and Amherst College, the hotel room was totally outdated. The room was musty, had spider webs on the lamps, bathroom shower tiles had mold and carpets were stained. For the costly price we paid for the room, we were extremely dissatisfied.
