Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park - London

This is the first review I have ever written, but i'm doing it because The Mandarin Oriental certainly deserves it. The hotel exceeded my expectations and I could not have had a more comfortable stay! Julia was the guest relations manager who took care of me and my family the entire time we were on holiday and even e-mail me prior to my arrival to see […] if we needed anything. During our Europe trip overall, we stayed in three hotels total and The Mandarin Oriental was certainly my favorite. The rooms were spacious, there were towel heaters in the bathroom, the staff takes a keen interest in knowing who you are and what you like. I was very impressed and would certainly stay here again! This is a stunninly beautiful facility. It is located directly across the street from Harvey Nicks and the Knightsbridge Tube, backed by Hyde Park and a couple of blocks from Harrod's. Condition of the room and bathroom is not 5 star hotel. Hotel is beautiful outside, nice lobby level. Great and helpful staff working there. Good restaurants and services. Location of the hotel is perfect.

While the location of the hotel was fantastic, I don't think I would stay here again. The hotel staff was very helpful, almost overwhelmingly so. I have never stayed at a hotel where the front desk clerk walks you to your room after checking you in. It leaves you confused - do you tip or not? We did tip him, of course, but found this a bit annoying. […] Usually you expect to tip the bellman so you're prepared for it but a front desk clerk? It left a bad taste in my mouth. It was an excellent hotel. The staff was first rate and the room was fantastic. Its an awesome place to stay in the heart of London. walking distance to Harrods which is a 'must see' if you have never been to London.

The only plus to this hotel is the proximity to the areas of interest and the room service menu was excellent. The quality and quantity of the room service food, was excellent. Our room was not cleaned and had to call housekeeping before they came to clean in the afternoon. Manager on duty was rude. Three negatives from me: Our room needed to be renovated; the a/c in the bathroom was coming away & the carpet was stained & tatty. The room was a decent size though & the staff were great. You have to pay £25 pp to use the spa (except from 0700-0900)& the gym is pretty feeble for a hotel of this price/ star level. You also have to pay to use the internet […] (£7 for an hour, £15 for a day) and the breakfast prices are eyewatering: £18 for two eggs, £7 for cereal etc. With room prices so high, it's pretty weak to pick your pocket for everything that many hotels provide as standard. 5 of us had a wonderful stay at this hotel for my daughters birthday. The rooms were very grand and being adjoining gave us plenty of space. Staff treated us like royalty. yes the hotel is expensive, but on a par with other top London hotels and the location is superb. It would have been nice to have even continental breakfast included in the price […] though - the extra did feel like too much to spend. The one downside to the hotel is the bar - very small for the size of the hotel and very crowded when we went down for pre-dinner drinks, it was standing room only. Eventually someone got up to leave and we gratefully sat down, only to be asked by one of the hostesses to get up again as apparently you have to put your name on a waiting list to get seats. We did find this very rude and insulting and returned to our rooms quite upset. The hostess did contact us later to say there were now seats, but this experience had certainly taken the shine off the evening. Read more
