Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Stunning views, sublime service"
08/31/14 LADYRAWDON Leeds, United Kingdom
We booked a Bridge to Bridge room, which happened to be on the 47th Floor of 48 floors, the views from all windows, of which there were three, were amazing out over San Francisco. The bay bridge to the right, the GG bridge to the left and the city laid out in a technicolour carpet below you. On arrival at 3pm ,our room was not ready, so they immediately placed us in the lounge bar on complimentary champagne. It surely softened the tedium of sitting around until 4.30pm. This is the type of service I expect, when visiting a five star hotel. The room was done out in pale golds and creams, and had a most comfortable bed with a lounging chair and writing desk and chair. The bathroom by luxury standards is not huge, but by San Francisco standards is better than average. It had an good shower cubicle, little light on the power of the water, but not too bad, an american style not full length bath and washbasin and toilet, all done in marble. there was adequate hanging space and places to stack suitcases. Turn down service, room service and housekeeping were very efficient. The real excellent luxury with this type of room was the complimentary car service, which we used effectively out and about San Francisco on several occasions to visit restaurants. The drivers were knowledgeable and charming. The concierge service was good at getting restaurants booked, with great knowledge to substitute if the first choice was not available. Overall a first class experience. One word of caution, valet parking at hotels, is expensive in San Francisco and it is not included in room rates, at around $50 per day.
"Amazing hotel in the heart of San Fran"
08/29/14 Marlee319 Alpharetta, Georgia
I came to San Fran for a 2 day business trip. We had a great corporate rate at this wonderful hotel. The personnel and doormen were very polite and courteous throughout my visit. The hotel is very clean. I believe only the top 10 flloors of this building was the hotel - starts at the 39th floor and every room has an amazing view! The hotel room was beautiful. The beds were very comfortable, down comforters, high-thread count sheets. Many amenities including in-room safe and fridge. The bathrooms are spacious - marble tubs and glass door showers. 2 bathrobes and slippers you can use. Internet was extra for others but included in our corporate rate. I heard the parking was $62/night which was pricey but you are in downtown San Fran. We were leaving on an early flight at 6:10 so the front desk arranged for a coffee service for the 3 of us to be set up around 4:15 AM. Great service and smiling faces. Definitely would reocmmend staying here if you can afford it - heard regular priced rooms were around $800 (very expensive w/o corp rate).
"Consistent & luxurious"
We again visited this hotel for our anniversary. We were greeted in the same fantastic manner as before. The bellman remembered us as did some of the staff. We skipped last year as the Americas Cup was in SF and we didn't want to get hammered with higher prices as all the hotels were raising their rates for the event. We had our bridge to bridge room with a buy 3 nights and get one free. The views were spectacular as always. The room was very comfortable and the bed was outstanding. Whenever you call, whether room service, valet, concierge, etc everyone is trained to deliver fantastic service. We used the town car service one evening. It is an excellent service but is very hard to get reservations. It books early. We enjoyed out cocktails at the bar. The bartenders are very nice and make signature cocktails. The food in the restaurant was just ok. We had quite an earthquake in the middle of the night 2 nights ago. Being on the 44th floor was very scary to me. A very loud announcement came over the speaker system in the room and repeated the announcement for about 15-20 minutes. The hotel was built to withstand earthquakes and made it through the 1989 Loma Prieta without any issues that we know about. Never a dull moment at the Mandarin Oriental SF.

A delight of a hotel. We arrived one hour after check-in and our room was not ready. What did they do? They upgraded our room and offered my wife and ME a complimentary lunch, now that is top notch service in my book. The rooms are lovely and so too is the food. The concierge is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
"Worst Mandarin I have ever stayed"
I have stayed at Mandarin Hotels in London, Miami, New York, Boston and Las Vegas. This property has nothing to do with the other one I have visited. This is an old building with a Mandarin Flag. The rooms have nothing to do with Manadarin standard. The restaurant is cafeteria type of place. If you are traveling on vacation please also take into account that the hotel is located in the financial district and the traffic is crazy here!!!

The Mandarin Oriental San Francisco is a lovely hotel. My daughter and I recently stayed for four nights and loved every moment. Our room was a delight and had beautiful views of the Bay Bridge. The staff was beyond helpful. The doormen even remembered your name. Absolutely the best hotel we stayed in on our 30 day trip. Forget the price. Stay there. You will not regret it.
"At these prices, you charge extra for internet?"
08/17/14 Karen K New York
First, I'll never give 5 stars to a hotel that charges hundreds of dollars for a room, and then tacks on an internet charge. Nonetheless, I would only go 4 stars based on other factors, but a solid 4. Priced as 5-star, so I'm comparing to that. We visit San Francisco regularly on business, but on vacation we decided to splurge on the Mandarin. Location, comfortable bed, and service are top priorities for me. Details: LOCATION: We usually prefer closer to Union Square, but this was an easier walk to Fisherman's Wharf and Little Italy. 4, not 5, star location. BED: Comforter cover is soft, washable cotton (5-star level). Great sheets. Pillows and mattress were not as comfortable as Westin. 3.5 stars overall. SERVICE: Bellman, check-in desk, etc., were all very gracious and attentive. 5 stars +. BATHROOM: Large, but lots of weird wasted space. Only one sink. Toilet not separate. Need to step into deep tub to shower. 3-star ROOM: Good size, but very odd layout. 4-star BATHROBES: Two, of different types, already in room. 5-star COFFEEMAKER: Not in room, but graciously delivered when requested, with milk. 5-star BAR AND RESTAURANT: Very good breakfast. Specialty in bar is gin and tonic -- housemade tonic has zero carbonation and little flavor, do NOT recommend.

Had a great time in San Francisco made greater by our stay at the Mandarin. The room was spacious, clean, and had a wonderful view, especially at night with the whole city lit up. The service was top notch, and the actual location of the property was pretty quiet for being in the heart of everything with all the noise and bustle just steps away. We wanted to take an overnight trip to the wine country and weren't sure how to go about it and the staff helped us with everything. They were so wonderful.
"Excellent Hotel, But Expensive"
08/16/14 Mark P
The Mandarin is a beautiful hotel with large, comfortable rooms and an excellent health club. Service was good, though not great: Our check in was unduly delayed, but I think that is not a typical experience. The location is good: Sansome is a relatively quiet street, but the hotel is within easy walking distance of many attractions. The quality of the hotel, including its views, is first rate, but I take it down to 4 stars simply because of the very high price: This is not a great value at the room rates.
"Great Location and Service"
When we arrived our room was not ready, so the gave us a free drink in the lounge and sent tea to the room. We have a corner Golden Gate Room. The view is to die for. There are many great restaurants near by. This is a first class hotel with all of the amenities.
