Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not quite as good as i hoped"

We stayed here twice in September having overbooked it as part of a tour of California. The bay and bridge view rooms are no doubt pricey but you get what you pay for. The staff are charming and very helpful, particularly Brian on the Concierge desk. Where they have not got everything right is in the kitchen. On our first stay the risotto for my wife arrived and it was tepid at best. I acknowledge that our server could not have been more understanding and it was deducted from our bill but the bill as also had the incorrect price for our wine. We returned 10 days later and having ordered our breakfast took an hour to arrive. Again the server was charming, but Mandarin to bbc e brutal I have never had these isuess at a Four Seasons hotel......so sort out some of the easy wins and I will be happy.

For a recent milestone birthday celebration, my wife and I decided to live it up in the city for a weekend - stay at a nice hotel and enjoy the great restaurants the city has to offer. The Mandarin is a bit of a splurge from a cost perspective, but even without the spectacular views it is worth every nickel. The room was absolutely perfect in every detail, and everything is top quality, from the linens to the furniture and fixtures. The staff is friendly and helpful and seems truly inspired to give the best service possible. And then there are the views. If you're fortunate enough to have a room with a northern view, you'll be treated to a picture postcard view that is mesmerizing. Because it is a premium property we had very high expectations, and the Mandarin managed to exceed them. Very highly recommended.

We stayed here during our four day visit to San Francisco. View was outstanding, great location very close to restaurants and sights. Our room was spacious and comfortable with amazing bed and spacious clean bathroom.

We had four nights at this hotel recently. It was a great experience. The service and check in procedure worked well. The room, on level 47, was nice although quite small. The room was very clean and had really good housekeeping service, world class. The view from our room was great, I would recommend a room at the top levels since the view is very nice. We experienced an earthquake on early morning, 3:20am, the room made some noise and the hotel tower was rocking. But no damage occurred, which was good. The location is good for the main attractions, we would come back again to this hotel if we return to San Francisco.
"Outstanding! Top choice in San Francisco."

Recently spent three great nights at this property. I found my stay to be outstanding and would pick this property again over both the St. Regis and the Four Seasons. Location: The hotel is located in the Financial District. I personally find the Financial District to be the perfect location for me as it's away from the tourist crowd around Union Square and close to many of my favorite restaurants. Also, it's San Francisco, Uber can get you anywhere efficiently. Grade = A+ Check-in: Check-in was friendly and efficient. I arrived around noon. This is before the stated check-in time. The staff informed me that the room would be ready in less than 30 minutes and that I was welcome to enjoy some tea while we were waiting. Instead, I went out to have lunch and within 20 minutes the lovely front desk agent called me to let me know the room was ready. Hotels in the US generally struggle with this and I found the level of communication to be perfect. Grade = A+ Room: The room was well appointed, especially when considering the hard product of similar hotels in San Francisco. It may not be best room in the world but it's one of the best if not the best in San Francisco. Also, you cannot beat the views. My only rather small complaint is that the walls are a bit thin and you do hear a small amount of noise coming from the hall and other rooms. A family was staying in the room next to ours and we could hear the kids once in a while. Grade = A- Gym: I used the gym everyday while on property and found it to be very good. The equipment was of very high quality. The gym was also pretty empty while I was there, I never had to wait to use any equipment. Grade= A. Staff: The staff were exceptional. They are hands down the best hotel staff in San Francisco. Personally, I find the staff at the St. Regis to be cold, and the Four Seasons to be overly stuffy. I found the staff at the MO to be very warm, perhaps the warmest staff I have experienced in North America. The front desk agents were all very nice, the concierge was extremely helpful and friendly, and the doormen were great, always asking us about our stay, etc. Grade = A+++ Housekeeping: I felt that the housekeeping staff was very solid. The room was always well serviced, turn down service was exceptional, and most importantly the housekeeping staff was very friendly. I think they were a little shocked when they heard me speak Cantonese to them (i'm a blue eyed america). Grade = A+ Management: I did not have any direct interaction with management, but they were visible and seemed as warm as the staff. Grade=N/A Overall, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in San Francisco and will be cancelling some upcoming reservation that I have at both the Four Seasons and St. Regis. I spend over 100 nights in hotels every year, and rarely do I find a hotel that has it all put together. The MO San Francisco has it nailed.
"Excellent Stay, Best Hotel I've Visited"

The service was excellent from start to finish, from check-in to check-out and everything in between. We were often greeted by name. There was a bottle of champagne waiting for us upon check in to celebrate our anniversary as well as a special dessert at breakfast. The breakfasts were great each day. I apppreciated the chance to use the house car for nearby trips. The view from the 47th floor was outstanding. Rooms are very quiet--could not hear a thing during the entire stay.
"Wonderful stay at MO"

From the moment we arrived at Mandarin Oriental, we knew we'd have a pleasant stay, from the door person to the room staff, everyone was most attentive and friendly. Addressing us by our last name was very personal and appreciated. I love the room (43rd floor) with Bay views), the very comfortable and soft bed, (after a long and cramped flight), clean bathroom and ample sized shower area, and room space. Room slippers and binoculars are special touches that did not go unnoticed by us. Very happy we chose to stay at MO. I would definitely recommend Mandarin Oriental to anyone who visits San Francisco. I would definitely return to Mandarin Oriental on our next trip.
"Outstanding in all respects ..."

Fantastic views from 44th floor, fab room and spacious bathroom nicely appointed, staff were excellent from doorman to valet parking, to desk staff, to housekeeping. Just a most wonderful choice in all respects. Also very close to Market Street and Embarcadero piers.
"Excellent Service, Stunning Views"

I spent two nights as a leisure trip at the Mandarin Oriental recently with my family. Overall, my stay was excellent with the service and views being a highlight. As soon as we arrived I noticed a bellman take a peek at one of my luggage tags to find my last name and from then on called me by name. Service like this is truly that one extra step forward that exceeds my expectations. All the staff were very kind and personal, and greeted me very politely. My family and I had a bay view room on the 38th floor (we wanted to reserve a bridge to bridge room but they were sold out). The view was superb-The Transamerica pyramid, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, and even Palace of Fine Arts were all easily visible from the room. The hotel even provides binoculars for viewing the various landmarks in depth. On a side note, we climbed Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower and the view from up there doesn't hold anything against the view from the room. The room was well decorated in shades of beige and gold with a red-orange marble bathroom. However, it would have been nice to have double vanities in the bathroom. The concierge was very nice in organizing a private tour with a car and driver last minute. The tour was excellent! The hotel also provides a house car, which can be reserved at the hotel, to take you to dinner. Breakfast at the hotel as well as lunch was very good as well. We happened to be in San Francisco during the earthquake and were going to Napa Valley the day after. The concierge could not have more professionally made sure to explain to us which roads to take and even call up our hotel in Napa Valley to make sure everything was fine. She made me lose every worry I had! The building itself was extremely well built in my opinion as the earthquake was felt very little. Overall, the Mandarin Oriental in San Francisco is a great choice if you want a great view and attentive, personal, and most importantly, professional service.

We stayed here for the last night of our honeymoon and were kindly upgraded. We had stunning views from the 48th floor which I would recommend requesting. The bathroom bed and shower were a welcome respite after lots of driving. Staff were charming at all times and very polite. The only downside I would say was that the breakfast service seemed a bit disorganised. We had lots of different people serving us and they all seemed a bit stressed and unsure who they were supposed to serve.
