Rooms and hotel exterior are starting to show their age. Broken exterior lighting, door trim falling off, furniture in room has suffered from cleaning crew ramming vacuum cleaner into it. However the room was clean and well furnished. Overall cant complain for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was really nice inside. It looks like it was recently renovated. Walls are kind of thin, but the room was very spacious. Being next to the mall, the traffic was very busy, but likewise there are a lot of restaurant options.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Nice roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We reserved an handicap accessible room but one was not available and the desk said you didn't specify one. The heat didn't work in the room we got and it was too late to fix it by the time we realized it. The outside of the hotel is in poor shape. No light by the door. Bad sidewalk and no railing on the two steps up to the first floor room we had. […] We are as much disappointed with your failure to assure us the handicap room you reserved as we were with the room itself. The hotel is hard to find and when we called you were unable to direct us and refused to give us the hotels phone number. I will not book through again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

My husband and I went to Grand Rapids for an ArtPrize weekend with another couple. Although we arrived at the Hawthorn well after check-in time, our rooms were not ready and we were kept waiting in the lobby while the housekeeping staff finished their work. The front desk was very busy and the young lady working there seemed quite stressed and disorganized. […] The toilet in our room didn't flush properly and the television remote was missing. The suites were very nice and comfortable, however, and seemed clean. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Enjoyed my stay, clean room and the location was good, but didn't realize that there was a $50 charge for incidentals. That was alright as long as you get it back when you leave, but was told it would take 3-5 business days. If it was taken when I checked in, why wasn't it refunded when I left?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Hotel for its money."
Good hotel. Just try to get rooms away from main streets (traffic gets noisy sometimes).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The most comfortable bed I've ever slept on! Hands down. The place was great. Like staying in my own condo. Everything worked perfectly, with 2 exceptions. The bathroom fan was loud, and the shower curtain was moldy. Beyond those easy fixes, this was easily in my top 5 overnight stays! Great place!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We enjoyed the stay in Grand Rapids and this hotel was part of the enjoyment. Easy to find with many areas nearby to also enjoy. Staff very helpful, warm and friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We choose Hawthorne Suites because it is close to family and we are comfortable with our two small dogs there. Surroundings are well lit for walking the dogs and getting to the car. Rooms could use minor updates but are comfortable. Wifi works well.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"ok for the price"
Hotel was decent but needs updates and work to make it worth a return visit. Pool and hot tub were empty and TV remote needed replaced. Room & Bath size was nice and well appointed. Hotel is easy to find and very close to shopping and resturants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It was okay"
My stay was ok! I have stayed here twice before and this experience was the most disappointing of the three. The room was missing many of the common utensils and items standard to a suite. I had to call the front desk to retrieve 6 of the 8 items our room was missing. The front desk person was pleasant and professional and tired to accommodate. I appreciated […] her. The cleanliness of the room was below average and we found a hair in the frig! Gross! The bedding and sleep experience was the main saving grace... I considered staying somewhere else that was closer to my job but returned here because of my past positive experiences. Not sure if I will return for a fourth stay. :( I thought I found a hidden gem... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Well, the staff was very nice but there seems to be some issues with what I was charged. The room was supposed to be $87 a night. My 2 nights ended up costing me over $250. I used no extras. I made no phone calls. The maid did not even come to make the bed or take away dirty towels. I used none of the facilities and did not eat breakfast or dinner. […] Most hotels give you coffee for the coffee maker in the room. I had 1 bag of decaf. I asked for a bag of regular. I certainly hope it didn't cost 50 dollars. When I checked in I asked about extra charges that I was told in my confirmation woulld be added. The person said that it was a mistake. I also asked about a trinity Health discount. I was told these things would be taken care of. When I checked out the person assured me that the $50 charge was incorrect and would be removed. She admitted that she had no idea what it was for. I had to ask for a bulb to be put in the security light outside my room and I found a gummy worm in my bed. I understand that stuff happens and I usually don't get too upset but for $250 I could have stayed at a much nicer and more convenient place. I chose this place because it was "reasonable" and it had good ratings. I will say again that the front desk staff was very friendly and outgoing and did fix the light fight away. I hope that this problem can be resolved. I don't know if it was the hotel's fault or Hotel.com. I would give them the benefit of the doubt if they fix this. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good place to stay"
The rooms were clean -- including underneath furniture such as the couch. The buildings appear well maintained. The room was furnished with everything advertised (cook ware, dishes, utensils, etc.) and everything worked. We were surprised to learn they provide dinner (Mon to Thur) in addition to breakfast. Walking distance to a major bus stop at the […] Woodland mall. Only minor complaints would be the busy intersection of Beltline and 28th Ave made left-hand turn into motel difficult at times of day and the wi-fi signal for our building was weak (able to connect to wi-fi from adjacent building that was sending a stronger signal to our room). My wife liked having a kitchenette. We would stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Run down property that needs attention"
Stayed here while dropping my kids off for college. Really run down and not well taken care of. One of the toilets in my room had the wrong size seat if you can believe that. This room was great for what I needed. My girlfriends and I stayed for a weekend and it was about a 10-15 minute drive from downtown. Good price and the room was spacious. The only problem that we had was with hotels.com because they booked the wrong room. We reserved a room with a pull-out couch through hotels.com but the reservation at Hawthorn said […] only a bed with no pull-out. Hawthorn couldn't accommodate for us because all of their rooms with what we requested were taken. However, they were very nice about the whole situation and we worked out a solution with hotels.com. "Great location and great price"
Very convenient location to everything we did in the Grand Rapids area and a very reasonable price. We liked having an outdoor pool. a sitting area under a gazebo for use by any one in the complex and that our room was suite, which made it very roomy for 3 people. The guest computer internet access wasn't working but the hotel staff did our map quest […] directions and printed them out for us. Our room only got minimal house keeping, garbage cans emptied and dishes put in the dishwasher. When I talked to staff about it the next morning, they were very apologetic, made a note to inform supervisor and gave us a discount coupon for a future stay. We would stay here again. "Problems this trip"
Air conditioner went out and so it got very hot. I called my second night and the maintenance man tried to fix it (for 3 hours), all I wanted was sleep! Anyway, finally at 10pm I was given another room and had to repack and move all my things. No help was offered nor was any comp given. The next day, after VERY little rest and a full day at the conference […] I was attending, I got back late and my keys didn't work in the new room. Luckily the maintenance man was nearby and let me in so that I didn't have to go back to the front desk. When I checked out the front desk person never even looked up at me or asked me about my stay. I left feeling exhausted and very unhappy. If it were not for the friendly maintenance man, I would have said the were an epic fail. I sent an email to their manager and got no response. I have also sent a letter and gotten no response either. Guess they don't want me back next year. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good Price, Good Deal, Good Stay"
I love Suites. Especially on vacation because it's everything I could possibly need. We stayed here a Friday through Monday for a romantic summer vacation and it worked perfectly. The boyfriend and i are both smokers, but we had a bottom level room , which has a small outdoor patio where we can let ourselves out and smoke a cigarette without breaking […] any hotel rules, and without getting the room smoky. The breakfast was adequate, although after the first day we opted to go out for breakfast. The outdoor pool was small, and we never got the chance to utilize it, but it looked clean, my issue with that was that it was located right in the parking lot. Service was fine, check in and out was fine, it was relatively quiet, but the neighborhood was awesome,. Everything you could possibly want is located right there on 28th and beltline. This felt more like a nice, quiet apartment than a hotel, and I really appreciate that. Great breakfast and fabulous customer service.Genuine Expedia guest review
We will never stay at this chain of hotels ever again. The hotel was in the process of being painted but it looks awful. There is paint everywhere on the ground the siding the doors and the trim. The pool and hot tub, which was the reason that we picked this hotel was closed for maintence all weekend. Never got to use either. The staff was average not […] very help full. My room had a large water stain on the bath ceiling and consequently smelled quite musty. The hotel room was well kept and clean. "Convenient and well worth the money"
We stayed two nights at this hotel on a week long vacation. The hotel staff was nice and friendly. We got lucky with nice weather so we could take advantage of the outdoor pool. The hotel offered complimentary breakfast AND dinner. Both of which were nice meals. We were extremely happy with our stay here. Our only complaints were the maintenance in […] the hotel room. The large lamp in the middle of the room did not work even after we moved it and plugged it in. The television had some kind of loose cable so late at night when watching TV the picture would come and go. And we were on the bottom level which afforded us little to no privacy if we wanted the curtains open to let light in. This hotel was so conveniently located to shopping, restaurants and all the sights we wanted to see while we were there. Overall we were very happy. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"convenient but noisy, definitely consider avoiding"
TO start with - I would recommend avoiding this place, there are many other hotels within the same area that are approximately the same price. PROS - good location: easy to access & close to lots of restaurants, gas stations, a mall & the interstate. Also, the room did have full appliances (fridge, stove, dishwasher, etc), shower pressure was excellent. […] CONS - pretty much everything else. NOTES: The building looked nice pulling in & initially the room looked fine. My wife said the room smelled musty/mildew-y, I didn't notice it but she certainly did. She also said it looked a little dirty. She also noticed that there was a gap at the bottom of the door even while it was closed. The room was good sized & the bed was fairly comfortable (it would have been a much better sleep except for the noise, see below), the shower water pressure was excellent, very strong & plenty of hot water. ***The biggest problem, the walls & the ceiling were paper thin, I mean so thin that I was surprised I couldn't feel the air from the outside. All traffic could be heard (not just noisy vehicles & motorcycles, I mean ALL traffic), also, you could hear the people upstairs walking around & using the restroom (you could actually hear them peeing). We would most definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone to stay at unless there is nothing else available & we certainly would never be staying there again. "adequate for my needs."
Great location and check-in and other needs were all meet to satisfaction. Only concern was the noise from upstairs. It was not that the occupant was excessively loud, but I think it was the insulation and lack of sound proofing. I could hear the walking around and shower running in excess. Not normally like that. Sound proofing.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Run down hotel and disorganized service"
This hotel was horrible. I booked it months in advance through hotels.com (obviously), but when I arrived the hotel had no record of this. They could see that I had a reservation and told me I was getting their very last room, but they had no record that I had already paid through hotels.com. Additionally, the people in front of me who had also made […] a reservation months in advance were turned away and told there was no record of their reservation at all (who knows who they booked through). Apparently, the hotel had just installed a new computer system which is what was blamed for all of the confusion. The poor front desk girl was trying her best, but was clearly about to start crying at any moment. The system kept locking her out, meanwhile six other people had lined up behind me to get checked in and they couldn't even all fit in the small lobby. She was the only person on duty. When I got to my room, it was dirty and dingy. The hotel itself appears to have fallen into disrepair. It also didn't seem very secure. I had a ground floor room, with a door that opened directly outside, a sliding glass door, and a window that overlooked the busy freeway. I didn't feel safe at all, considering I was traveling alone, and the state of the hotel. The free breakfast was also rather lacking, though I hadn't been expecting much. I definitely would NOT stay here again. It’s worth it to pay a little bit more and stay somewhere safe, clean, and that doesn't lose reservations. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good for low-frills extended stay"
I was just looking for an inexpensive quick night that was close to the airport but ended up walking into a full-blown suite with a full kitchen and everything. The pool was outdoor and emptied for the cold season (this was early May) and there really wasn't much else outdoors, but everything inside was very nice and spacious, complete with a central […] HVAC which I've never seen in a place like that before. It felt much more like a small apartment than it did a hotel room, and was unbeatable for the price. There was even a fireplace with the synthetic logs available for purchase at the desk. Didn't have time to check out the food offerings but there was a varied range of servings on weeknights that I thought was an interesting touch.
