Had to pay 6 dollars for parking and another additional charge to turn the room phone on. All the towels were covered in hair and the bath tub drain was clogged, water to my ankles as I showered. Don't really recommend to others. Horrible and congested location.

The hotel is aged but in good repair and clean. Unlike other hotel smoking rooms, this room did not smell like an ashtray and was very clean. The staff are helpful and tend to patrons needs.

The reviews for this hotel were not very promising but actually I was very surprised. The room was relatively clean and well kept. The hotel itself may be old but the room was nice. The bed was comfortable although they could have done a little better with the pillows. Had a nice flat screen HDTV as well.

This is an older hotel that is currently being renovated. The one main complaint I have is of the smell in the hallway and the room. There was musty smell permeating from the older carpets they have not replaced. The smell was bad when entering these areas, but after awhile it went away. It's an old hotel, the rooms need updating pretty bad. Everything worked and the bedding and towels seemed clean enough. My biggest complaint is the loud, obnoxious, drunks that seem to always be here on weekends. Whether it's drunken teenagers going in and out of their rooms every few minutes slamming the doors, yelling in the hallway or the 40 year […] old power drinkers partying until 5am it's really unbearable. I guess that's what's to be expected from one of the cheapest places in downtown Charleston. I've tried to give it a chance numerous times and even mentioned this to the clerk when checking in last time and his reply was "oh don't worry there's nothing going on this weekend". Apparently he was completely oblivious to the fact there was a FREE CONCERT AT THE BAND SHELL FRIDAY EVENING DIRECTLY OUTSIDE THE FRONT DOOR OF THE HOTEL!!!! Live on the Levee, look it up, look at google maps to see the band shell directly in front of the hotel!! From now on I will pay the premium to have the comfort and respect of a 4 star hotel. Boo, aside from the out of control drunks it's not a terrible place and it's ideally located. There was an afterparty being held there the night I stayed. Parking was horrible, people everywhere, beer bottles, smoke,etc,. wasn't a good first impression. WHEN we got there., there was a large front window broken out covered by plywood. When my husband opened the door he exclaimed, "What a dump" . I had already noticed several large (trashcan sized) stains in the hallway. The old delapidated wallpaper was curling at the edges. Our first room had urine on the bathroom floor so we requested a 2nd room. 2nd room had a dirty washcloth in the shower, cup rings on the night stand, party beads hanging from the fire alarm and an empty toilet paper roll. Too tired change rooms 2nd time. Really bad experience, especially for how much it cost.

The location of the hotel, on the river was fine. However because of a total refurbishment being undertaken several of the amenities we would have expected were not available. When several problems with the room were pointed out they were not corrected to our satisfaction.

The room was fine, but the hotel is very dated. The hotel is about 10 stories and they only have 1 working elevator out of 3. They have been working on "replacing" the elevators for about a year now. I don't think they actually are replacing them. If you don't mind waiting 10 minutes for an elevator and are just looking for a place to lay your head […] then you are good to go. Overall I'd say it is worth the price if you can't get in to the Best Western or the Fairfield, as they include a free breakfast and free parking. I didn't give a 5 because it is still a work in progress. They only had 1 elevator working but that is because they are putting new ones in. All in all I had a very enjoyable stay there. It was also VERY convenient to Haddad Riverfront Park.

The reviews of this hotel were so bad that I was genuinely worried about what I was getting myself into. Yet the hotel not only wasn't bad, it was much better than average. my room was spotless. I had a beautiful view of the river. I had breakfast at the hotel which was very good. But there were many fluffy clean towels, shampoo conditioner and body lotion facial soap etc. just don't understand where these reviews are coming from. It is true that only one hotel elevator was working because the others were being renovated. But it wasn't a problem. I never waited more than 2 or 3 min. which is what I would expect anyways. All in all, this was a nice hotel. But what made it great was the service. the airline I flew in on had sent a piece of my luggage to Charleston South Carolina. I needed it the next day, and the airline sent it to the Charleston West Virginia airport. The hotel went to go pick it up for me!!! I have stayed here many times over the years and have always found it to be acceptable and affordable. They have changed names many times, they seem to be in a constant state of renovation but not to the extent that it was bothersome. I have never had a problem with any of the staff My biggest and really only problem with this hotel is the undesirable […] element it attracts because of it's affordability. Pretty much every visit at least once there are drunken idiots in the hall way either yelling or simply talking very loudly at 3-4am. They walk up and down the hallways partying with their friends completely oblivious to the fact they're in a hotel. They are both black and white, young (often appearing underage) and adult (20's to 40's). This last strip I had to call security once on Thursday at 4am and then twice on Saturday at 4am; the first call I heard the employee tell them to keep it down and go to their rooms. That lasted about ten minutes then I had to call again. They need better security and they need to get the cops involved when the scumbags simply won't behave or are blatantly drunk (and often underage too!). It's a shame because it's a great location and decent people trying their best to run it. I'll think twice next time, maybe pay a bit more not be awoken in the middle of the night by drunken idiots.
