"Play, don't stay!"
Hotel rooms are in desperate need of updating. Old, dinghy, out of date and neglected rooms. The water park was great. Well staffed and we'll taken care of. The lobby and bar were okay. "Outdated and run down"
The hotel was outdated and run down for the rating Expedia gave it. The room smelled musty, it wasn't very clean, and the bedding was stained. This hotel was unlike any "resort" I have ever experienced. The hotel staff was slow, and at times only had 1 person at the front, while several staff walked back and forth from the front desk to the back office several times, and didn't look busy. Even the manager, who acknowledged those waiting for service with a "hello," never bothered to help out! […] The rooms were not in the best shape, either. The blankets were torn and ripped in spots. I was not comfortable staying there. We also could not charge breakfast to the room. This was the first time that I was not able to charge my meal to the room when eating in the hotel restaurant! Hotel was OK but since it was September they closed the lounge, the "in hotel store" and the "restaurant was no longer the famous "Branding Iron Grill" but is now a Chinese buffet.. We actually took a half day vacation to get there early and spend the day at the pool. However, upon check in I learned that the water passes were not included in our stay and for three of us, that would be $105 more. We paid the fee, went to the pool and were disappointed to find that most of everything was closed until almost 5 pm. The ATM did not work, the photo booth and the ice machines on every floor we visited. Our TV had no sound and the remote did not work. We went to Olive Garden and only used the pool for about 5 hours total so we didn't get our money's worth at the pool and didn't feel like the hotel and pool were worth the $230 we spent. We've stayed here a couple of times in the past. The hotel itself isn't much to speak of. Your site does not give the Hours of the Water Park which was the reason for picking this destination for my family. The check out time is 11:00. The hotel does something I've never seen. They actually deactivate your room key at 11:00. Unbelievable, we were loading our car and couldn't get back in the room for the rest of our belongings. This is just an example of their lack of customer focus. Very concerned about staying at Fort Rapids after reading some reviews. But threw the dice anyway due to the closer proximity to our home. Very glad that I did. Cozy lobby. Comfortable and clean rooms and beds. The bathrooms were clean as well. Our room had two doubles or queens. Lifeguards were young adults that appeared to take their responsibility quite seriously, and that's a good thing. The teens in the arcade however, were, hmmmmm, how do I put this, not as eager to please the guests. Front desk and housekeeping personnel were very helpful with making our stay fun and worry free. And for supper we ordered pizza from the stand at the pool and it was really good and only $13!! It fed the 4 of us, 2 teens and 2 adults. There was one thing that did make me frowny face, the wifi. It was free and they gave me the log on info but I was never able to get onto the network. But my 3G worked perfect, 3-4 bars in my room; and really all I felt like doing after playing in the park was checking my email and sleeping. We were worn out. Do not believe the reviews. I almost did not stay after reading the reviews. But our experience was great! The food is very good! Really!! (Chicken fingers - amazing!!) There were lifeguards everywhere. Waterpark was a blast! We had a great time at fort wilderness waterpark. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed everything this hotel had to offer. The rooms were clean, just looked worn. "Closes its amenities early"
The waterpark is closed during the week so don't book during the week. No notice was posted on the internet letting customers know about the situation. It is quite the disappointment if a customer is going there for that specific reason since the bartender is unable to recommend any entertainment in the area except a casino. Too bad for customers not ordering before 8pm because the kitchen closes by then. The 12th floor smells of mold and mildew. Not all the floors have vending machines. One of the floors looks like it has a huge blood stain in the carpet in front of the elevator doors. Coffee is served in tall styrofoam cups for breakfast. The food is good though. Would recommend only water park. Hotel located near many restaurants that will be needed since breakfast for 1 adult and 2 children not only missed fruits and vegetables but also cost $25!
