The first room was thick with smell of mildew. Gal at desk was very nice and accommodating when I requested a different room. 2nd room was just very musty that the constantly running, old, AC unit did a lot to remedy that. All was clean and, well, adequate. Their 'breakfast' seemed to be part of a hotel-run restaurant instead of a help-yourself buffet. […] When I opened the door, the buzzer was so painfully loud that I decided I wasn't going to set in that dining area and listen to that go off more than I already had, so I went elsewhere! It saddened me to see 4 beautiful magnolia trees next to the swimming pool starving for water, which, I think, says a great deal about the care and commitment of the owners. I paid for 3 nights and checked out early, and I will NOT stay in this hotel again. It's my fault...should have read reviews first. Read more

This place was the worst hotel experience I have had in some time. At check in they tried to charge me more for the room claiming that Hotels.com only charges 75% of the room cost and they pick up the rest at check in - I argued with them for about 5 minutes until finally I showed them my confirmation email that clearly stated "paid in full". They photo […] copied my credit card, so it wont surprise me if they bill me anyway. The hotel had some very unsavory people staying there, I did not feel safe walking to my room. The hot breakfast they promised from 7 am to 10 am was out by 745 and they would not make more. This place just is what it is. A small older hotel/motel that has had minimal to no updating since it was opened. A/C didn't work well in our room and the knobs that control it were broken off. Also the a/c sounded like a 747 every time it came on. Shower head is mid chest level for anyone over 6 feet tall. Tv is old. Some of the pillow cases were stained […] or just dirty looking. Our room was not cleaned at all during the two days we stayed there and with a 2 month old baby you can imagine how the trash piled up. We had to go ask for clean towels on our 2nd day and ended up having to wait until the next morning (the day that we were checking out) to get finally get any more towels. There were 2 adults and 2 children (4 years […] old & a 2 month old); there were only 2 bath towels in the room! Apparently, from the cobwebs & dirty wash clothes under the beds, the room hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in a while. The "free hot breakfast" was supposed to be open from 6-9 AM; my husband, who is a diabetic and needs to eat at certain times for his medication, went at 6:15 the first morning only to find the "cafe" closed because the cook had not arrived yet. He ended up going to a restaurant down the road. I tried the breakfast around 8:30 and was very disappointed. The "free hot breakfast" was whatever the cook chose to cook for the day; the only choice you had was how you wanted your eggs cooked, sausage or bacon, & 2 choices of juice, coffee, or water. At least that was how it was on our first morning - we didn't try them the second morning. The pool was the only thing about this motel that was its saving quality, but that too needed some improvement: there were several tables around the pool, however only 2 of them had umbrellas on them to help shade you from the hot sunshine. Pretty rough looking on the outside. Looks better on the inside, but it's eefinitely not the Ritz! In my room there was a large dead bug on the floor, but aside from that the room and linens were acceptably clean. The outside is rundown. The lobby smelled horrible. The carpet in the room was filthy. I have slept on more comfortable camping cots, the beds are hard as rocks! I did not want to touch anything in the room because everything was "sticky" and appeared old and filthy.

My husband & I were in Brownwood for a family reunion. We checked in Saturday evening, looking forward to a relaxing night before driving back to Houston the next morning. We were in room 213, on our way to the room there was a six foot ladder standing right next to the railing of the second floor walkway. On the ladder was a box cutter knife & above […] the ladder was a box which was opened and cables were hanging down. There were no hotel employees around, however there were serveral children running around. We decided to cool off in the pool however there were so many people in the pool drinking & smoking it was impossible to enjoy ourselves. After dinner we spent some time in my brothers room who was also a guest at the hotel. At about midnight we heard what sounded like a gunshot. Several minutes later the parking lot was full of cop cars. A while later we went back to our room, passing the ladder and the box knife still standing in the walkway. Our room smelled like natural gas...BAD! When my husband called the front desk to complain the clerk argued a bit before agreeing to let us change rooms, apparently unconcerned with the smell. The room we moved to had the AC off all day so it was about 100 degrees in there & when we turned the AC on it was extremely loud. The housing on the unit shook all night long! The Budget Inn is conveniently nearby McDonalds and other fine restaurants. There is a great grassy park across the street if you have dogs. The hotel permits dogs which is why we picked them. Their was an empty liquor bottle under the bed, the hotel needs improvements the corner and along the wall of every wall looks bad, dirty, old and needs painting. The ac was extremely loud so we had to sleep with it off and it was in may so you can imagine how are night went.

Given that we only used the hotel to crash at night between the golf tournament play times, the hotel was fine. I was not impressed AT ALL with the office, cafe, etc. The fitness room was HORRIBLE, they should just close it until they can update it (water tank unplugged but left in room, treadmill rusty and noisy when used). Our room was the dirtiest hotel or motel room I had ever stayed in. The pillowcases had makeup on them from previous guests....not stained...just not washed. The airconditioning unit in the room would only blow cool, not cold. The sheets were too small and did not fit the beds, therefor, they pulled loose. The bottom of the bath tub was dirty, I cleaned it myself prior to using. The linens, although clean, were stained and very unprofessional in appearance. For an overnight stop on our way from Houston to Santa Fe NM and back, Budget Inn & Suites was ideal. Friendly people and instead of the regular hotel contintental breakfast (a big turn off for us) Budget Inn & Suites treated 2 in our party to a on-the-house hot breakfast in the adjoining cafe of eggs-your-way, sausage, bacon, toast, juice, coffee, […] and real hashbrowns (not square). The lady at the front desk was very nice. She got us our room keys and gave us tickets for our breakfast the next morning. The tickets were for a FREE basic breakfast OR 50% off additional breakfast items. She gave us 4 tickets. One for my husband , myself, and our daughters( ages 14 & 13). The basic breakfast was for 2 eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns […] and juice. They would let the girls only have 1 egg, bacon, hash browns and juice. So one of our girls got something off the menu instead. Why not, it is 50% off, right?!??? WRONG!!! The cafe in the hotel would NOT let us have the 50% off! Also, the bacon was NOT done! The hash browns were NOT done! They didn't even have any juice. So we had to pay for something else to drink! The waitress NEVER came back to check on us. My husband had to go to the kitchen to get a refill on his drink! As for the room, the mattress cover was hanging off the bed to the floor! The sheets did not even fit the bed! The a/c did NOT work! We were given 2 towels for the 4 for us to share! The girls didn't even use the pool. It is a good thing because I need a clean towel after I take a shower and not some towel that has been laying around some pool! I would NOT tell ANYONE to use this hotel! Not even my worst enemy!!!
