"A mix of impressions"
Although recently updated, this hotel has some problems that aren't easily fixed. Its location is out-of-the-way, though a shuttle makes regular runs to downtown Charleston. Highway access from either side is difficult and dangerous, and a surprising amount of highway noise could be heard at night. This high-rise building is served by just two elevators, […] and bottlenecks in the the small front lobby were frequent. The restaurant/bar on the top floor has a fabulous view, but the food is unexceptional. Our room was comfortable, but the room door required extra effort to close securely from the outside and bathroom door was hard to latch. The staff was generally friendly and helpful, despite a busy holiday weekend. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Not a good experience. I arrived at 1 PM, hoping to check in early since I had tickets to events downtown at the Spoleto Festival. No dice. When I finally checked in at 10:30 PM, I was given a room in a lower floor. Felt the two front desk staff were condescending, if not downright racist. Didn't feel they wanted to help me at all. The windows in my […] room were dingy, so that my "view" mainly consisted of dirt. Mary Beth who checked me in that evening made a big point of selling the restaurant view; soliciting business for the hotel restaurant. Very disappointing stay. Why the 4 star rating? The lowest rating is what this place deserves. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Very happyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great stay, Rest on 14th floor great view but staff was ok.Genuine Expedia guest review
I loved the location of the hotel, and although it is a Holiday Inn, it is a very old property. It is advertised as non smoking, but our room reeked from so many years of smokers. Also, the air conditioning unit was really loud and could not be run at night. The property needs a thorough upgrade and smoke eradication. The view from the bar was just […] lovely and the personnel was very nice. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice big room, not perfect"
The room was nice, comfortable bed, very quiet, but no mini fridge or micro wave, which I found odd. The room was bigger than average but the bath area was tiny and cramped. A foot or two taken from the sleeping area and used for the bath would not have been missed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"overnight trip to Charleston"
This is an older hotel, however it was clean, folks seemed friendly and it is only minutes away from just about all Charleston has to offer. It seemed as if they were in the remolding stage, this room seemed updated.Genuine Expedia guest review
Perfect hotel and location for our mini vacationGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great stay as always and love this hotel for its proximity to downtown without the large price tag! Staff was very pleasant as always. Always enjoy our stay here !Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not staying there again"
This is an older hotel and we have stayed there several times in the past. This time, it was over Easter weekend the one of the two elevators was broken for at least a day and a half of the 3 days we were there. We found out from talking to one of the maintenance workers that the panel in the elevator had to be replaced. The elevator repair company […] provided the panel, but the maintenance crew at the hotel replaced it in the elevator. This may be common practice, but I don't find that to be reassuring. But the real problems were at the restaurant. One morning, two of the coffee cups at the table were dirty. The plate I picked up at the buffet had dried food on it -- this was in the clean stack. Another morning, my cereal bowl had a large chip out of the side. The coffee pots were always dirty on the outside -- were they ever washed on the inside? One morning, there were no plates at all on the buffet and no silverware on the tables. My husband noticed that when clearing a table, the waitstaff would sort out what appeared to be clean silverware, wipe it off and put it in a bin. They would then hand this back out to the next diner. He specifically asked someone for CLEAN silver, and the server went back to the kitchen and came out with a different set. We are assuming they actually were clean. But if all this is going on where we could see, what is happening back in the kitchen where we can't see? As convenient as this hotel is to family, we will not be staying there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was nice. View was great of the river. Restaurant/bar on top floor had a great Easter buffet, the service was good and the view of Charleston is spectacular! Also close to beach and downtown. A bus takes and picks up downtown. Great if you're trying to avoid parking hassle and enjoying libations.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lousy hotel-see my picture"
I suppose when I travel my expectation is somewhat predetermined by the type of brand I choose Holiday Inns have experienced some better press in the last few years and wanting to spend about $130 per night this location seemed to be a safe bet. Unfortunately I was dead wrong about everything except the location. Upon entering the property at 2:30pm […] & without warning from the front desk, Ian attendant shouted" We have no rooms ready and only guarantee the rooms for a 4pm arrival. Did any of them forget "Hi and welcome to the Holiday Inn Riverview?". I kid you not, at 3:59pm, the rooms were ready. Of course our other requests of at least one of them being a king were not complied with because, "We only have the request, and it is not a guarantee". We were sent up to a restaurant that was closed and full of untrained associates who could not mumble another restaurant for us to go to. The room was tired, smelly, on the second floor, and incrediabley noisy, not just from the highway, but from the other room's doors closing. he walls are missing any soundproofing what-so-ever. Twice, maids tried to enter the room without the " Hello housekeeping" and knock at the door. The beds and pillows are as comfortable as stale matzo (unleavened bread) in your stomach. That was day one. Day two.The hotel decides it is a good time to run a mechanical drill through the hotel in case we were tired of listening to the cars on the highway or go to the restaurant and not get attention Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Overaged hotel with few opportunities"
Nice riverview, but far away from Center of Charleston - to far to walk. Shuttle Service was offered, but very unrelieable, we had to wait 50 min after the scheduled departure time. First come first serve principle. Hotel had 2 elevators, one of them was out of order - at the check out day, we waited 15 min for the elevator, it stopped 3 times - always […] crowded. My mother could not walk with all the luggage from the 10 th floor downstairs. We squeezed in the elevator and it was a way overloaded but the only way to go down. Never again and a way to expansive for this service. The only good thing is the view from the restaurant on top of the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Easy to get too, awesome view of the city, friendly staff. would definitely stay there againGenuine Expedia guest review
We would definately go back. Nice and clean, friendly staff and good location as it is not far to downtown and all must see sights. Shuttle bus great but would suggest having it pick up every hour rather than every 2 hrs.Very reasonable price considering services offered and location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room smelled of cigarette smoke as did the mattress. It was not as clean as I had hoped. Our room overlooked a dumpster so the view was disappointing as well. The staff was very friendly but I would not stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"decent if looking for clean and economical"
-staff was attentive and nice -bed was horrible, pillows lumpy and linens kept coming off, exposing old, yellowed mattress -reasonable price -good food at restaurant -hotel could use some upkeepGenuine Expedia guest review
Close to everything in Charleston. We had a nice view of the marsh and marina out of our window. They had the sliding door to the balcony locked and only one elevator was working during our stay. Other than that, no complaints. There is no reason to pay twice as much for a room "in downtown Charleston" it took literally five minutes to get anywhere […] downtown. Next time we go back to Charleston, I think we will stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Sunrise. sunset, moonrise, moonset views"
The views from the hotel were incredible. The City, the sun and moon made for a memorable stay. Shuttle to old town was convenient and was as good as being there. Easy to find and location was well suited to accessing the whole area. Great place to stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had 4 miniature pillows on a king-sized bed that equalled one regular sized pillow. When we requested a larger pillow, or additional pillows, we were told that there were none in the entire hotel! Also the carpet in front of the bathroom door was wet the entire time we were there. Location was good but it was a tough nite's sleep!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient to everything"
It was great! Rooms were spacious & clean. Bed & pillows were extremely comfortable! Will stay here anytime I need a hotel in Charleston!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel had bad odor in rooms and balcony door was disabled so you can't get fresh air. Smelled like $28 room at Motel 8 .....would seriously consider avoiding Holiday Inn Express after this experienceGenuine Hotels.com guest review

No problems - disappointed hotel didn't offer a continental breakfastGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful historic hotel"
The hotel has a great location in savannah. Can walk everywhere. Feels like part of the South and not just another square hotel box. Hotel needs to fine tune its service in the restaurant and front desk. Not for the impatient on some of the little issues we had come up. Overall tho the hotel is very accomadating. Loved the architecture.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I loved the hotel overall, they made getting to downtown Charleston incredibly easy with complimentary shuttles from the hotel. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous! The staff was awesome and the overall ambiance was really nice! I will definitely go back when I'm in Charleston.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Enjoyed our stay.."
The biggest negative of our room were the lights from the parking lot that lit up the balcony, made it hard to view the beautiful city lights . We ate at the resturant on the 14 th floor. The food was good and our waiter was awesome. One thing you could do is reverse the lighting making the perimeter of the building darker and more light over the salad […] bar. We had a very nice stay here and would recommend it to others. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Made for a great trip"
I was a little nervous about not staying in historic charleston because I didn't want it to be a headache to get to all of the places we were going. The hotel is so close to everything so the money saved by staying outside of the historic district was well worth it. It's a straight shot to the outlets and historic downtown. The river view was wonderful. […] I will definitely stay here again. This was also my first Holiday Inn experience and I am pleased with how it turned out. I normally stay at places that cost twice as much and now I know that's a waste of money! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

If you have stuff to do down town but do not want to splurge on down town hotels this is a great alternative! Rooms were clean and nice! Not luxury but still nice! We had a good view of the marsh! Cheep breakfast that was not bad for a Buffett!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Vacation with Grandson (holiday inn riverview)"
It was OK. Woman at front desk was not friendly upon check in and upon request for a new door key that did not work. We were on the 12th floor and road noise was fairly loud. Did not receive any room sevice (e.g. clean towels or anything during the stay (2 nights). Riverview restaurant view was exceptional - however, the food prices were high. Road […] noise at the swimming pool was excessive. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pleasant and Welcoming"
The staff were very pleasant and welcoming from the start and continued throughout our four-day stay. The Harborview Restaurant on the top floor was a favorite of ours. The view was beautiful, the staff, again, very pleasant and welcoming, and the food was delicious. The room and restaurant were both very clean, appealing, and comfortable. I would definitely […] recommend this hotel to others. The only reason I rated the "Comfort of your room" with a 4 instead of a 5 is because the mattress was not the most comfortable. I wanted to keep the sheets and pillows but the mattress was not to my liking. Then again, I own a SleepNumber bed and I am sure that probably has something to do with it. Great hotel! Great Restaurant! and Great A/C! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A great hotel for retired women."
We wanted to save money on lodging so we chose to stay outside the city ring. This worked well for us because of the shuttle. We found the drivers to be very helpful and accommodating. We needed help getting up the shuttle stairs. We can't compliment Jeanine (I'm not sure spelling is right, but it's close). She worked the afternoon of Monday, October […] 1st and checked us in. She was extremely helpful as well as funny and pleasant. She was also on duty on Oct. 5th and 6th when we checked out. I hope you do what's necessary to keep her happy and working for your hotel. We liked the breakfast buffets and service there was excellent. Guests had coupons and we should have asked how to get them, but we didn't. My only complaint: I saw one cockroach in my dresser drawer, a surprise when I opened it after being there one day. He left me and hid under the bed. That did creep me out, but I'm from the north. This hotel is nice but a very pricey for just a regular hotel. The restaurant on the top floor is terrible and very expensive. I will probably not stay here again, it's more cost efficient to stay elsewhere and probably have better food.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice staff. The hotel wasn't right in downtown, but a free shuttle transport is available to get you downtown. Not too far from Folly Beach. Would definitely stay at this location again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
