Two dayer for Corvette show this August. Good. Nights sleep. Good distance from traffic with easy drive to fairgrounds. Recommended for Corvettes at Carlisle.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Near Carlisle fairgrounds & available rooms"
I usually prefer to stay in a nicer hotel, however I needed a place to stay for the "Corvettes at Carlisle" event at the fairgrounds and the Red Roof was the only hotels I found that still had rooms available. This looks like an older hotel, possibly used to be a Holiday Inn or other but has seen better days. The carpets, furnishings, etc were old & […] well used although everything looked fairly clean. The continental breakfast was OK was but missed the usual yoghourt & oatmeal. The management and staff were very nice. If I go again next year, I will try to book earlier at better hotel, further away if needed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Room clean, rest of motel filthy. First room, air conditioner didn't work, second had a stuck shower knob. Continental breakfast was a joke, featured a total of walmart orange juice, and corn flakes or fruit loops. Do they pay their trash pick up bill? Dumpster was piled high with trash, and then stacked next to it in the parking lot. One member of […] staff tried to help with air conditioner, but could not speak English. A couple of signs saying "pardon the renovations" don't excuse filthy stained hallway carpets and dirty paint chipped hand rails that I was afraid to touch. The exterior door locks didn't work, allowing anyone to roam the hallways. Wow! This is the worst ever! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"overall in very poor condition"
It was the worst Hotel stay ever! The hotel was in extremely poor condition; the a/c stopped working about 10PM and we had to ask to be moved to another room. That room was not prepped for guests, the bathroom was filthy, the ceiling tiles in the BR were covered in mold and mildew; that a/c unit did not work well; the smell in the room was moldy; the […] toilet had a mold/mildew ring around the inside of the bowl, and the toilet kept "running" and was very noisy all night. Please do not recommend this type of accommodation again or to another traveler! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"good only for a cheap place to crash for the night"
HEADS UP, THE POOL IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION! It doubt it will be fixed this summer (12) but you can call or check the chain's website. This is perfect if you just need to lay your head for the night and want someplace cheap but clean. There wasn't any cobwebs or stray hairs. However, the hallway was VERY musty smelling. The room had a faint smell when […] the air wasn't running and it got stuffy. If you have severe allergies you may want to stay away. My son was fine in the room, but when in the hallway and at breakfast, his allergies were set off (this is not typical for him) Breakfast was just ok....cereal, bagels, and a waffle maker. Great TV selection. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We had a very nice experience at the Red Roof. We were greeted by a friendly front desk person, who explained all the details of the hotel to us. Our room was nice, very clean. The hotel is aging but if is kept very nice. My only grip was that the plug in the bath tub didn't stay in so I couldn't have a long soak. But other than that it was very nice. This hotel is in a nice location approximately 1/2 hour away from either Hershey or Gettysburg. I used the free Wifi and it worked perfectly. Basic accommodations, but were clean and adequate. Is located right beside a Bob Evans restaurant and across from a Duncan Donuts. If you want to save money on eating out, a Truck Stop/Denny's/convenience store […] is also right across the street so you can buy some groceries and use the in-room microwave and refridgerator. Bathroom was a little dirty, hallways and room smelled a bit musty. AC so loud as to prevent sleep (but cooled room quickly). Staff was helpful if slow. Breakfast too basic....no yogurt or pastries or toast or fruit or juice (Tang type beverage only alternative to coffee -- and no decaf).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a very appealing atmosphere"
Hotel did not appear to be maintained at all. Outside was very trashed with papers, plastic,. The trash bin was open with discusting looking "stuff" in and around it. Motel did not smell clean at all inside. Would certainly not stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Bogus non-smoking room signs and inaccessible Wifi"
We reserved a non-smoking room and it had a no smoking sign by the door but the hallway (particularly the end where we were) and the room both had an overwhelming stale smoke smell. We complained and were given keys to another room, which was even worse. We didn't have time to find another hotel, so we stayed in the first room but it wasn't pleasant. […] My 15-year-old son was amused to find that the smoking/non-smoking signs are removable and could easily be placed on different rooms as needed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Maybe I just got a bad room"
The staff was welcoming and pleasant, the price was right on budget, and the location is very convenient. The room I got, however, is a different story. I was enveloped in mustiness as soon as walked in, and awoke the next morning congested from recycled hotel air. The shower still had the previous guest's used bar of soap in it. The wallpaper was peeling […] off and discolored in some places (though the lighting in the room could have caused the dicolorations). The wallpaper was actually held up by push pins in one place. There was also another safety issue concerning a broken outlet cover. Thankfully, it was just me, just one night, and I wasn't paying for it. I've seen good reviews, so I suspect I just got a raw deal. The only reason I don't give it a 1 star is because the location was nice, and the staff were very nice, too. Average accommodations. Hallways were dusty. It looked like some of the rooms were undergoing renovations. Staff were very polite. Breakfast was plain, but reasonable for the price.Genuine Expedia guest review
Room was spacious, clean and very quiet for the price. Even had a continental breakfast. Would definitely stay again and recommend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
What an awful place! In need of extreme renos. Very dirty hallways. The sheets had cigarette burns and the blankets and pillow cases were stained. The breakfast that was advertised was not available as the dining room was closed. Bad smell of mildew as well. Quite a let down and not recommended to anyone.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We have stayed at many Red Roof Inns and have almost always been satisfied. Not so in this case. Coffee was available in the lobby, but only flavored coffee creams were offered. The room was not clean and the Hotel was generally very unattractive. Grounds were not well maintained. The people at the desk were not well informed as to what restaurants were available in the area and they were very difficult to understand, barely able to speak English. Would not stay here again.
"$129.99 for a $54.99 room"
08/23/14 Brad B Albany, New York, United States
We recently stayed at this hotel during an event at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. My positive comments are that the room was fairly clean (see note below on smell) and the staff was friendly. Now the negative comments: I could not get on the wireless network. Calling the desk twice, I was given two different excuses. The first time I was told "you have 3 rooms together" (have no idea where that came from and I think the clerk was implying that we were using a lot of bandwidth). The second time we were told that "everyone is on line looking at autos". So I got up at 4 Am and still no wireless (I could not even see the dsignal with two fidderent devices).. They should not advertise free wireless internet. We booked a non-smoking room on a third-party site but our room did not have the no-smoking sign and it stunk to high heaven until they cleaned it the next morning. The hotel is dingy, the lawn is not mowed, weeds all over. Wallpaper was stapled back up in our room. We stayed outside of Pittsburg the previous night for about the same amount of money. It would not be bad in a pinch at $54.99 but it is outrageous to charge what we paid. We will not be back.

This is the most disgusting hotel I've ever seen! We were traveling east and I've always trusted the Red Roof name. It's an old, rundown hotel, and the weeds outside should've been our first clue. The first room was horrible, peeled and MOLDED wallpaper. The walk to try a second room revealed water damage, carpet stains, a hallway phone torn off the wall, etc. The second room was so disgusting we couldn't even walk into it, the smell was so extremely dank. Left immediately. Never stay here! Red Roof has been disappointing on a couple of trips this year, and has always been my "go to"! Very disappointed.
"Raze this dump and--DON'T stay here!"
08/11/14 Judy S Dayton, Ohio
This franchised poor excuse for a motel is nowhere near worthy of the Red Roof name. I travel frequently and Red Roofs are usually my motel of choice, because they are pet friendly, clean and of a decent standard of overall quality while still being affordable. A former Holiday Inn, then several other incarnations including Red Roof, Travel Lodge and now back to being a Red Roof, this is simply not an acceptable establishment unless your standards are waaay below mine. It is run by a family of foreign origin (barely speaking english) who also live and COOK in several of the rooms. There is a derelict and abandoned miniature golf course next door. There is an "America's Best Value Inn" on the same cul-de-sac, and for those of you readers who have accidentally had the misfortune to have an experience with THAT chain, I don't have to elaborate further. I think some of the relatives run that one. The onsite restaurant is closed. The pool is closed. Not only is the grass is dire need of mowing, but they also need to learn what a weed-wacker is, as the weeds surrounding the shrubs around the perimeter of the building are waist high. The ladies restroom by the lobby had 3 toilets--two were signed "out of order" and the third was so full of excrement that it couldn't be flushed if you tried. Really?? That's beyond disgusting, not to mention filthy and unsanitary. They didn't have the kind of room I booked available when I checked in, but the guy said he would "find me a room" on the ground floor. It took almost 30 minutes to check in, it was a hot day and I had my dog in the car. Although I had to follow him through the whole freaking place while he was looking for an available room, I was finally offered one that reeked of smoke. Which I declined as I had specifically asked for a non-smoking room with two beds, a microwave and fridge, on the ground floor. The other room I was offered smelled like an old moldy basement, but since I am severely allergic to smoke, I opted for the moldy smell. Ugh. There was a fridge, but no microwave. (they were probably all in the family's rooms because there were a LOT of cooking smells in the hallways) The beds were fine, and the bed linens looked clean, but the bathroom linens were thin, meager, and very rough and had mysterious yellow stains that showed up when they got wet. The carpet was worn and looked none too clean. Ugh. The A/C either blasted sub-arctic air or barely cool, no middle of the road. Water pressure was poor. Toilet flushed, but barely. Very poor selection of TV channels. The alarm clock in the room was not set to the correct time and we tried multiple times to set it correctly and it wasn't possible. The carpets in the hallways are worn, faded and stained. Wallpaper peeling. The mirror in the bathroom was corroded around the edges. The ice machine (apparently they only have one) is out of order, so you have to go to the front desk and ask them for ice. It takes them forever to go into the closed restaurant and get you a little bag of ice. (we were afraid to use it in our drinks, so we only used it for a small personal cooler one morning. After that we went over to the truckstop and bought bags of ice) Forget about the "Free WiFi"--it is non-existent, except in the lobby. The desk guy kept telling me it was "because they were busy" (the inn was nowhere near to full occupancy) but I have stayed hundreds of times in VERY full Red Roofs, and I have never been in a Red Roof where they only had one measly router for the whole place! My roommate tried the coffee in the lobby one morning and said it was disgusting. A guy who was "working" around the motel parked his pickup truck in the handicap parking spot (no card, no handicap plate) that I needed to use and didn't move, even after we made an obvious comment. The parking lot is VERY dark at night, very poorly lit. The doors marked "Fire Doors" and signed "These doors must remain closed at all times" stand wide open all the time. On the exit doors are signs that state "Use room key to enter. For guest security, these doors will be locked at 11pm. Please use front lobby after 11pm." The doors were unlocked 24-7, you didn't even NEED a room key to gain access to the hallways and room doors. We kept the deadbolt and security latch fastened the entire time were there. Yeah, some security. Thank heaven we had our dogs with us, who would have made a racket if someone had attempted to break into our room. I had made the reservation and checked in on my credit card. My roommate wanted to pay for the room when we checked out, and we learned they had already checked me out and charged my card before we even went to the desk to check out!! When we told them that she wanted to pay for the room instead of me, they told us they "couldn't change it." Every other Red Roof I've stayed at always asks me at checkout if I want to leave the room charges on my card or use another form of payment. I often use a different card to pay, or sometimes opt to pay cash when I check out, so I was taken aback when they told us "no, they couldn't do that." So much for customer service. The whole place has the air of being derelict and in disrepair. There are broken toilets stacked next to the door in the back of the building, and there is a huge construction dumpster sitting in the parking lot. The owner tried to tell me they are "renovating" but I saw absolutely no indication of any kind of renovation going on, just severe neglect and disinterest in maintaining the property. In my opinion, they should just tear this mess down and rebuild, and then get someone to manage it who has a clue about the kind of cleanliness and standard of quality that the average American traveler expects. Take the previous reviews under consideration, as well as mine...Spend your travel dollars elsewhere and DON'T stay here.
"Calling this place a "Dump" would be too complimentary"
07/21/14 Jim R Charleroi, Pennsylvania, United States
Hard to decide where to begin.....The nightmare started with what should have been a routine check in at any hotel It took the desk clerk 23 minutes to check me in, He kept complaining about the computer, not sure if it really was the computer or just him. The property is very old and wasnt originally built as a Red Roof. The hallways had no ventilation, were very hot. The carpet in the hallways was stained and worn. The room was even worse. The carpet was stained, The wallpaper was peeling at all the seams. The mattress was terrible. The water pressure in the bathrrom sink was just a weak trickle. The shower did not work. If I owned the Red Roof name I would never let it be display on this building. The best thing for this place is the wrecking ball.

Found a blood stain on the pillow.the toilet wouldn't flush.the curtains were broken so they wouldn't close all the way.our dog found a huge dead beetle. There was a spot of mold on the wall. When we booked it said if we wanted to get a king bed it comes with a flat screen tv (nope) and a fridge(smelled horrible)and also a microwave (at least ten years old). Horrible horrible horrible!!!
"Reservation cancelled without notice"
05/12/14 Alison J Baltimore, Maryland
I booked three rooms at the Carlisle Red Roof Inn 10 months in advance of my son's college graduation through the Red Roof Inn website. In the interim, that particular Inn was sold to someone else. No one contacted us to tell us that our reservation was no longer valid. I found this out four days before graduation because I called to confirm our reservations. Otherwise, we would have shown up for the graduation with no place to stay. That would have created a huge amount of stress on what should be a very special occasion. When I contacted Red Roof Inn about the situation, they told me it was the new owner's responsibility to contact me. Red Roof Inn had my email and home address but made no attempt to contact me. I will think long and hard before I make reservations at the Red Roof Inn again. You should confirm reservations with Red Roof Inn by calling your specific location, don't count on them to contact you if the situation changes.
"no longer Red Roof"

Don't even stop here, this in no longer part of the Red Roof chain. We had booked 2 weeks before they switched over and were not notified by the hotel or Red Roof. When we arrived there was no heat in the lobby, the restaurant was closed, they only would take cash. Terrible, Terrible, Terrible
"Terrible doesn't describe it!!"

The whole stay here was beyond bad. They lost our reservation yet the desk clerk gave us a hard time as if it were our fault. It is need of many upgrades not only to the façade and landscaping but to the entire building itself. The whole place smelled damp and musty. They advertised a continental breakfast and the clerk told us there was one but when we went down in the morning, there was nothing set up. Our room was filthy dirty. You know it's bad when we used our own disinfecting wipes to try and clean the bathroom. Had it not been for an emergency trip from out of state due to a loved ones illness we would not have stayed here but we were traveling with dogs and they are one of the few hotel chains that do not charge a fortune to stay with pets.

Just stay somewhere else ... don't waste your time and energy! There are other Red Roof Inns along your route in the area not too far away. I love Red Roof Inns, am a RediCARD member and am simply SHOCKED they allow this to be in the brand at this point. The property needs major physical improvement (easily fixed with some investment) but unfortunately, the problems go much deeper ... obviously the owners and their management style trickle down everywhere. Plus, it seemed almost completely empty ... only two cars in the entire parking lot. After me "adventure", I know why. BIGGEST COMPLAINT - the place is SIMPLY, down right dirty!!! The hallway carpets are disgusting and look like they are so bad that even a deep steam clean will no longer work at all. I'm not just talking about near the exits either ... the whole length of the hallways were filthy ... I even went into other hallways and they were all the same. Also, many room doors didn't have a room number sign but had a printed sheet of paper with a room number on it taped to the door. Really?!?!?! The first room I was put in was damp and musty. This room was an "even" numbered room in the middle of the hallway on the first floor. I had requested a room near an exit but didn't get it. I sat in the room for a few minutes contemplating whether or not my allergies would be OK and decided I wasn't going to chance it so I went back to the front desk and let them know. The manager said he would put me on the other side of the hallway as that side was usually less musty. Hmmmmmmm ... why put me as one of the FEW guests into a known musty area of the hotel?!?!?! I agreed to try a second room(odd-numbered room on same floor) and when in it, found it to in fact be less musty. However, in this room the chair at the desk wouldn't raise enough to use and work on a laptop. This room had a refrigerator but did not have a microwave as the first room did(I actually typically use it). There was no Do Not Disturb sign to put out on the doorknob(again, I actually use them). Also, the blinds/curtains were in disrepair(missing pull "bars"? and not properly installed). The bathroom had hairs in the sink and the tub - I hopefully assume from a cleaning person, but still! While checking everything out, the phone rang. I answered the phone and could hear the person on the other end but they couldn't hear me. I kept wiggling the phone cords until there was a click and then they could. It was the manager at the front desk calling to see if everything was OK with this room. I advised the room wasn't as musty but that the chair wouldn't go up to be a usable height and the curtains wouldn't close all the way. I asked if the chair could possibly be swapped with another. He said he would right down to take care of it. About 10 minutes later, he and the trainee from check-in came to inspect the chair. I showed that it would go down, but wouldn't go up to a usable height. He said that's as high as it would go and left. I stood in the room for a minute or so trying to be OK with staying but just couldn't do it. I picked up the phone, made sure the cord was held in so they could hear me and called the front desk to let them know I wasn't going to stay and ask if there was anything else I needed to do other than leave. The trainee answered the phone and said I should come to the front desk because "he(meaning the manager) would want to speak to me". I loaded the car and drove back to the front and went in. I explained to the manager I wasn't going to stay ... that I had to be able to do work and the desk & chair were not workable PLUS I extremely disappointed with the overall condition of the property. The only happy part of this experience was driving away ... to another Red Roof in the area where I had a great stay.
