It would have been nice if this "resort" provided towels in the water park. The towel bin was always empty. The rafts were impossible to get your hands on.The only hot tub in the waterpark was overcrowded with kids jumping off the side and in the hot tub. So not much for parents to enjoy in the park.I do not plan to stay at this hotel again.

Our stay started with a 45 minute wait to check in. They had two people checking guests in. The line went down one hall and then wrapped around a corner and went down another hall. They finally added a third person and he was checking in guests who walked in the door and didn't stand in the long line. When we questioned him he said the people had stood in line. We watched the people walk up there without standing in line at all. When we finally made it to the counter, the woman waiting on us admitted the man had been taking care of people as they walked through the door. She was as disgusted as we were by it. A worker named Doc was walking up and down the hall apologizing for the long wait and said that it happens daily. They need to fix it. I did love that the room had a divider between the queen size bed and the two bunk beds. It gave the adults some privacy. The room was clean other than stains on the carpet. Our room looked out onto a roof covered with plywood and cinder blocks. There were small trees starting to grow out of the cracks. Hallways needed to be swept and cleaned. I will not be staying there again. I will spend the extra $$ and go down the street to Great Wolf Lodge like I usually do.

The hotel did not give me the room that I requested, we were cramped in the room as a family. The front desk workers were new & knew nothing. The only good thing about our stay was playing in the water park & Checking out a day early to go elsewhere.

Hotel was very nice but the waterpark was very crowded and the water was cold. All in all not bad but I find other resorts in Sandusky to be better but for the price it was ok. Kids had fun anyway.

Booked a family suite for Fri-Sun & our family of 4 was thrilled with our room in newer section. But right after check-in, extreme cold led to water line break & we lost our hot water. Staff set us up in new room (in the older section). We were disappointed that our replacement room had a queen instead of king bed, smaller bathroom & room size. No more pocket doors separating adults from kids, but we still had fridge, microwave, 2 TV's etc. The floor in this room wasn't as clean (several animal crackers & hair accessories under bunk beds, dust on cabinets). But bathroom, towels, appliances were all clean. Spooky-quiet on Friday night, as I think we were the only guests (waterpark & restaurant didn't open until Saturday). All convenient side doors were barred shut on Friday as well, causing us to have to go through lobby. But Saturday, the crowds rolled in, side doors & restaurant opened, and my kids had a blast in the water park. Even with all the people, there was minimal waiting and enough play area for the kids to enjoy themselves without feeling "crushed" among masses of people. That is exactly what we hoped when we chose this hotel over the bigger competitors in the area. We understood the extreme cold temps causing problems with water supply & found the entire staff to be courteous, friendly and helpful.

Pleased with the room, but the hotel looked run down when we drove up. They used so much chlorine in the water that my wife and I were coughing as we sat there. Overall, the kids had fun.

From the booking to the room it was a horrible experience! If you stay at a water park hotel you want water park passes no questions asked!! When you take 5 adults and 2 children you don't want 1 bed and 2 bunk beds for sleeping comfort! The room we finally stayed in (3rd try) was dirty even the coffee pot on the shelf still had old coffee in it! The checking in process was horrible from the super long lines to the 2 double doors constantly opening and freezing cold air blowing on you. The doors are horrible even if you are already a guest and going to the pool area! Then after all that the water park was great until someone picked up our clean folded towels even the one that didn't belong to the hotel and took it to the laundry area. Thank goodness the supervisor on duty found it. I will probably never stay here again. You truly do get what you pay for!!

Stayed at this hotel for a convention with three coworkers. The service at the front-desk was unwelcoming at best, as nobody was actually at the desk and a custodian had to find someone. I asked the receptionist how the breakfast is and she grimaced and shook her head and replied that she'd only eat the fruit. The room was about 110 degrees and I literally had to turn the air conditioner on despite it being 5 degrees outside. Despite advertising internet, it did not work in any of the 4 rooms we had reserved. It was out of season, so I get the pool INDOOR pools not being open, but the hotel didn't even open the bar and the receptionist told us that "none of the amenities are open". Would have been nice if that had been stated before we made reservations. I would not stay here again and I do not recommend it to anybody.

We took our 3 kids there and they loved it. It's a smaller version of Kalahari. But it was nice and fun. Hotel bathrooms were a little gross but they were busy. Your room bathroom is very tiny. But overall it was nice.

Excellent location. Very smart redo of two hotels into a single hotel with an indoor waterpark. I had been going to Sandusky's Great Bear Lodge through the time Kalahari opened. And, I have been at Sandusky's Kalahari Resort every year since it opened. The water is just as good or better. The rides are better than the comparable attractions at all other indoor waterparks. The same can be said for the quality and number of lifeguards. The pools have cushioned walls and floors. And yes, they have a one to two person tubed "toilet". Is Kalahari the better indoor waterpark? Of course. But, this one can definitely do the job under the appropriate circumstances without all of the major walking, long lines, and high expenditures you must endure at Kalahari. Also, the rooms are larger, more comfortable and usable compared to the Hut and Dessert rooms at Kalahari. Actually, the room I had at Maui Sands was just as good or better than all but the top tier hotels I have stayed at. And, unlike staying at Great Wolf and Kalahari, you can quickly get to, and from, your vehicle which enables you to easily take in all the other eateries and attractions that Sandusky has to offer, (including the competing indoor waterparks). What can Maui Sands improve on? Curb appeal, exterior signage, restaurant layout, nets on the basketball hoops, hotter water in the hot tub, and a better method to handle "rush hour" at the front desk.

It was very obvious that the hotel has not been kept up. Last year the rooms were well kept. This year big stains on the carpet and poor maintenance of the hotel. The staff really works hard at keeping everyone happy. Doc remembered us from last year. Great guy-give him a raise!!! Probably will not return. We paid a lot for not quality accommodations. The owners need to fix it or they won't get return customers.

We were not comfortable or pleased with our stay at the Maui Sands Resort. Basically the room was ok, but the hotel was directionally laid out in a strange pattern. Twice I went to front desk and no one was there to help. Our main thing when picking a hotel is the breakfast offered in the mornings. This breakfast had the worse tasting food we have ever experienced. The food bar was spread out in two different rooms on three counters and there was really no guidance on where everthing was.

The hotel is very cute and comfy. There are some minor issues, like the carpet not being totally clean (sticky suckers must have been dropped and left the "sticky" which a vacuum wouldn't pick up. But beds and sheets were comfy and clean. I think the waterpark was very good- plenty of attendants and they were friendly and helpful. The slides were really fast. Although we only used the waterpark for a bit, I think it was a nice addition to our vacation. Location is perfect for going to many activities. There's more to do in this area than I thought. There's a public beach with sand that seems to be almost a secret (called Nickleplate Beach) about 15 min. away. Cedar Point is very close and the African Safari Park which was absolutely awesome, is only 20 minutes away.

Water Park was awesome for both myself and my 13yr old son ! Room not so much. Beds were clean and comfortable but rug had stains, dirt / drywall looking dust around bottom of mini fridge, chunk of drywall missing on celing in bathroom by mirror and faucet in tub sticks out from tub and allows water to get inside the wall. Thats going to create mold soon. We were only in room to sleep and shower. Staff was very very nice. DJ in Bar / Restaurant too loud. Ate dinner outside of hotel

we took this hotel bc we needed WiFi however the wifi in this hotel didnt work, and we asked about it no one was interested in helping, to the point that we stayed in another hotel the second night, bc the woman at the front desk was extremely rude and impatient

I felt that paying $259 a night would get me more than a large pool with a few slides. The images look great online, but in person the hotel is overrated and the rooms we rent that great either. I would not stay here again and I feel the resort was anything but a resort.

Stayed here while visiting Cedar Point and was a bit worried because many recent comments about this hotel described it negatively. Overall it wasn't spectacular but it was a good value and lived up to what it was supposed to be. Checkin process took about 20 minutes. There was a good line but it moved fairly rapidly and the hotel had 3 people working so even when someone had a difficulty, the two others kept working. The room itself was a standard room, two queen beds. Overall it was a little bit old and I could see where some of the cleanliness complaints came from but it was pretty much fine. There were a couple stains on the floor by the door; the rugs could use shampooed, but the room had been well taken care of on normal cleanings. Towels, bathroom, everything else was as it should be, beds were in good shape, i have a dust mite allergy and these didn't bother me. Breakfast was somewhat crowded, at the longest it took about 10 minutes to get through the line, but they kept food coming out the whole time. Standard hot breakfast, eggs, pancakes, sausage, biscuits/gravy, coffee, tea. Lots of kids around but that was expected. Only negative thing really worth noting is that there was no detectable wifi signal in my room despite the hotel advertising wifi. Had I not spent the full day at an amusement park I might have made a bigger deal of this. Overall, it was better than I expected based on many of the comments seen before coming.

I was not happy when the front desk was reluctant to trouble shoot some check in issues. They did not greet me when i first arrived. They were joking and talking amounst themselves when i was waiting to be checked in. someone went on break then another 5 minutes before someone asked if i needed help. Bad customer service. The lady at the coiunter was rude and unprofessional. I will not return.

I had to be moved twice to be content with staying there with my family. I just did not feel clean, carpets are nasty.It needs a lot more work. Overall, the hotel was ok. The front office staff were not very friendly or helpful. At checkin... the one girl at the front desk had a huge attitude and acted like we were really putting her out to check us in.The kitchen staff were great! Very friendly, and very accomodating and helpful with suggestions. The room was comfortable and clean, the bathroom extremely tiny but clean as well.

The hotel is dated and it shows. Bathrooms are small and sub par. Carpet has stains and beds are average quality. The icing on the cake was getting my card charged twice for my one night stay. I called a week later after noticing this and they said their records showed that after checking out I checked back in for a night. It took 30 min on the phone before someone finally put funds back on my card. Poor customer service all around. Stay at the great wolf lodge down the street, this place is a hole.

Hotel entrance was not well marked. Great value compared to similar hotels in area. Nice waterpark. Great layout and design for room that could accommodate 2 adults and 4 kids. A room with 6 beds should be stocked with 6 sets of towels. (We got only 4 and needed to get extras at the desk each night). Overall it was a decent place but a little dirty and can use an update.

Upon arrival the boy who helped with the check in was nice enough but clueless. He did not give us our waterpark passes or a receipt. My daughter said the hallway smelled like her grandmothers attic and once going in the room it was a big disappointment. The carpet had black sticky spots on it, the furniture was dusty and other guests were loud and obnoxious well after midnight. I could not in good faith recommend this hotel to anyone.

I rented 4 rooms for 5 nights for my entire family. This was for my 70th birthday celebration, the hotel was very dirty. The cleaning staff only came to our rooms twice and once left the door open. Luckily nothing was missing from our room. The breakfast was adequate, but no fresh fruit and did not vary from day to day. Tables were only cleaned once in awhile therefore it was dirty. I believe for the cost if the hotel this has to be the worst experience I've ever had. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone!!!!

I rented 4 rooms for our family vacation and have never been more disappointed in our accommodations ever. We stayed 5 nights and twice the cleaning staff never came to our rooms. One time when they did they never cleaned just dropped towels off in the bathroom on the counter, and then left our door open, luckily nothing was missing from our room. This is an overpriced room and the waterpark is way overpriced.i would never recommend this hotel to any of my friends.

Lifeguards weren't paying attention. Bartender was in her cell phone and dancing rather than taking orders. Morning staff checked us out before I even turned key in. Morning desk staff were rude, flippant and unhelpful. Breakfast staff were friendly and helpful. The room was cute.

The resort was not as I expected.There were big stains in the carpet(told front desk but they seemed to not care),resort is behind a gas station...best thing is the water park area of resort.
