"Concrete wall for a View"
Expensive room, two night minimum. The view from the room was not as depicted on their website (sunny view of sailboats). It was a concrete wall, four feet from our window. Staff was very kind and sent us a bottle of wine as an apology, but no other rooms were available. Got a room on the 6th floor. - Under the roof. I have stayed in many hotels - this was the worst. On top of the roof is located 3 mega-turbines to the air condition. These gave an extreme noise so it was impossible to sleep - we were given another room. There is no doubt that they knew about the problem but did do not take it seriously and did not express […] that they would do anything about it - therefore take care and do not take the 6th floor! Beside this the room was not cleaned properly - there was left a pair of used women tanga trousses on the floor. Loud partying going on in the hotel lobby until 1:30am. Prevented my family and I from getting a good night sleep. Partying carried over to my floor and continued until after 2am. "Very pleasant stay"
We were politely greeted by everyone upon our arrival. Our room was clean and very attractive. We had a 'water view' room and it was lovely. The lobby spaces are very attractive, too. The bar and restaurant were adequate, but the ambiance a bit 'dry', given the nice spaces elsewhere in the hotel. We wished for some comfy couches or corners to relax […] in. The staff there, too, seems a bit hurried, but this was minor issue in the scheme of things. The hotel is near Barrister's (sp?) Wharf, within walking distance to several nice restaurants and shops. "Great pool, clean room but..."
During reservation, I was told to call ahead for free early check-in. On the day of arrival, when I called, some older woman picked the phone and very rudely told that nothing was available before 4pm. Spoiled the vacation. When we reached the hotel, it was empty with plenty of rooms available. Then when we asked for water view rooms, we were told again […] none were available. The hotel was empty, but no rooms available for guests! The room was clean but small. The toilet was broken and kept on running the whole night. One guest had left wine with glasses outside the room in the hallway and it remained there for the entire stay. No one cleaned it. Pool was good. No lifeguard on duty or no noodles etc. Bring your own. Dry sauna was good. We stayed on the concierge level. There was nothing much in evening snacks and drinks were not free. Breakfast was average - nothing special. Overall the stay was just OK. Considering the hotel wasn't busy, the customer service response wasn't great. I would have given the hotel conditions a higher rating if the rooms were set up differently. We disliked the balcony/hall outside our room. Overlooking the lobby was a terrible idea! The noise echoed and there was a large group of hockey children. They were running up and down the halls and banging on the metal railings. The hotel is very nice, clean and on the water in the center of town. Near resteraunts and shops. The lobby is really neat with a sea side/ sailing theme. The pool is great if a bit warm. Our daughter loved it. The room had a view of the water, harbor and town. We had a very nice experience. The only downside is the hotel seems way behind the times […] with wifi. They had a low tier $14 and high tier $19 plan to access wifi. This seemed very outdated as I haven't been to a hotel with this type of plan in years. It should be free. Would have rated the room cleanliness higher but upon check in there were used little shampoos and used soap still on the soap holder area of the shower. Other than that, the room seemed very clean. Liked the note given by the staff welcoming us and asking if there's anything they can do for us during our stay....nice touch. The furnishings were a little […] tired but very nicely decorated and very comfortable. We had a room that overlooked the street but was a nice view at that. Wouldn't have liked the rooms that they have that look into the lobby/atrium area. Make sure you ask for waterview or an outside view at least if you don't like having a window that does n't look tot he outside. Would have been nice if they offered a continental breakfast in their huge lobby in the mornings......We checked in rather late, after dinner hour, and decided to eat dinner at the restaurant in the hotel.......what a great decision as it was the best food we had for our entire stay! (our other dining options were all good.....just the Marriott restaurant was excellent with friendly service and great tasting food) Overall I would recommend the Newport Marriott as it's close to everything, clean and has a great restaurant and also indoor pool. "Convenient to sites."
VERY upset at parking fee of $25 per day. For this time of year I could have left my bags in hotel and parked on the street for FREE. We were able to walk everywhere and did not need to move the car, but had I known it was $25, would not have used Marriott parking lot. Also......pool did not look clean or inviting. Way overpriced for what you get. $379 for a double room, $25 for parking per pay. The hotel is purely functional for corporate events. I would not recommend leisure travel.
