Worst ever.. Total dump. Elevators were not working. Food horrible. Never will stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Chattanooga Choo Choo I am sorry that you weren’t pleased with your accommodations. I think the term dump is pretty harsh. I regret that you were not one of the many happy guests here during your stay. All the Best, Jim Bambrey GM
"Nice hotel but missed pool"
Nice hotel but, pool was not warm and the pool is one of the main reasons we stay there. The indoor poolis usually great do we really missed having a swim this time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Chattanooga Choo Choo Thank you for sharing your very kind comments about the hotel. I’m sorry that the pool heater went out while you were here. It was repaired the next day. Regards, Jill QA
"My Choo Choo stay"
The hotel is actually three different building, with the amount of guests, three were to many. Lot of bus trips stop here for the night. The restaurant was only open for breakfast, the dinning car for pizza was for no other choice available. The neighborhood left something to be desired, it is in the old down town section under going some revitalization. […] Parking is extra, but should have been thrown in as an incentive to stay there. Hotel No. 3 is in the shape of a C, and the elevator are on the top part, our room was on the lower part, nice walk. The main elevators were out of service, They should shut off the water fall at night, it makes a lot of noise. The room was clean and neat, staff did a good job keeping it clean. Had a round glass top patio table, but the outlets were taken by the TV and floor lamp. Had to sit in the overstuffed chair to use an outlet with laptop. For a couple of day we were the only occupant on that side of the building. The terminal was nice to walk through as were the gardens. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great place with unique touch"
Stayed here for one night amid a road trip. I love this place. It has a unique ambiance and is in a great location. Feels safe and is near good restaurants. The price is pretty good for a large, comfortable room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Charming Choo Choo"
The Choo Choo is a historic hotel clearly in need of some love. It is currently undergoing an $8m renovation. I stayed 5 nights. Cons: They are fixing it up, but the heart of this place is the old Chattanooga train depot & it is over 100 years old. The buildings are in various stages of repair. The main elevator in my building was down, so we had to […] take the svc elevator. There were places where wallpaper peeled or paint chipped. The property consists of several buildings spread over a large area. In some, it’s a hike to get to the main area. Most of the restaurants/shops are closed, to reopen in spring 2015. Pros: It is a fantastic piece of history, charming despite its issues. Honestly, I would rather stay someplace with character than a McHotel. The brewing company and Cajun restaurant across the street were both fabu, as were the coffee shop and grocery bar just up the st. Electric Shuttle stop: free shuttle rides stopping all along Market from the Choo Choo to the Aquarium & back every 5 mins. 100s of restaurants and shops along the route. Only used our rental car once all week. The staff was friendly & helpful. You can tell they care about the property & know a lot about its history. Ask them questions. Be sure to ask if they have any good ghost stories! I would love to come stay there again (maybe in a train car this time) when more of the changes that are in the works are completed. "DISAPPOINTED WITH STAY"
The overall experience was disappointing. The overall condition of the hotel building was a total disappointment. A lot of the shops on the premises were closed. And yes, I understand part of their revenue is based on the amount of money the hotel can collect for ALL amenities offered. However, I don't consider parking in an open parking lot an amenity […] AND certainly not worth $7 a night. This is truly one place we will not be staying at again. Response by Chattanooga Choo Choo I am sorry to hear of your disappointment with our hotel. Some of the shops are closed for renovation. We started charging for parking several years ago. It is spelled out on the registration card and it appears on our website. The other hotels downtown charge between 8.00 to $15.00 dollars. Also, we are the only hotel that has 24 hour security. I would be happy to talk to you. All the Best, Jim Bambrey GM
The hotel is a neat concept with cool train memorabilia to see, but if you don't stay in one of the train car hotel rooms, you will be very disappointed because the rest of the hotel is very run down and outdated.Genuine Expedia guest review
"I WILL BE VISITING AGAIN"
OMG!!!It was one of the best girlfriend getaways we've experienced!!! The staff was very helpful in all areas. Got there on Friday and yes the Hotel picked us up from the Megabus station...We arrived before 3:00 and our room was ready.. We needed more towels, blankets and pillows and they arrived in a very timely manner. The breakfast for $8. and some […] change was worth it.. They had everything a breakfast fanatic like me enjoys. Lord have mercy..the golf carts rides to and from our room which was in building 3 took this hotels customer service rating over the TOP..The downtown shuttle right next door is a BIG CONVENIENCE.. We never rent vehicles on our girls weekend trips, and this proved to be a winner. Mr Porter, Marvin, Kelly, Courtney and TC were all very pleasant. Yeah, I read the reviews regarding the aging of the place, but the only areas I saw was the carpeting, and it is worth the visit considering this Hotel has gained National Historic Recognition. The box cars are facinating, the gardens are beautiful, and the service is bar none. Thanks Chattanooga Choo Choo for allowing our 15th year of travel to be a memorable one. And I will be taking my husband because the place had a very romantic atmosphere about it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a happy customer"
On arrival to the hotel we expected a romantic quant hotel but found it under construction. Our room was in Hotel 1 which houses the pool and the room smelled of Clorine. The fire alarm went off in the hallway in the early morning because someone was taking a shower and the moisture from the bathroom set off the alarm which was barely loud enough to […] be heard. The phone in our room did not work and when i notified the front desk her statement was she would let maintenance know but was very disinterested. All of the site attraction were closed due to constuction. The flowers in the gardens were pretty but half of the fountains did not work. Hopefully after the constuction is finished it will be what we were hoping for but right now even with the Hotel.com discount it was very disappointing. I feel like your page should state that the hotel is under constuction. The rooms do not have sprinklers and the fire alarms in the room was from the 1800 which did not work. "Nice property but updating is needed."
The grounds of the historic hotel are pretty -- and they could be prettier. They are in the middle of an 8 million dollar update, and that is definitely needed. I just hope that it includes the rooms in addition to other parts of the property. The rooms don't look like they have been updated in 20 years. Settling has taken place and it is difficult […] to close some of the doors. The finish on the wood bathroom door was worn out ages ago. Most of the shops were closed due to renovations, so that was a disappointment. It's an extra $7 per car to park. The breakfast is $9 per person and it's a terrific full buffet. The main building is beautiful and historic, but again, refurbishing is needed there, and in the ladies room there, too. The location next to the trolley station was excellent!! The grounds are large. Prepare to walk a lot. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel in Process"
The hotel staff were friendly and on top of things. Our room was huge in comparison with many hotel rooms in other cities. The hotel is in the process of renovation so that does take away a bit on the review I am giving at this time. The elevators in building 3 were down but the service elevator was working. The room was clean but needed an update in […] furnishings. The maintenance crew were great when we complained of a sink clog, very on the spot. And the on-site hotel restaurant was also getting a renovation so I really cannot give it a fair review. All in all, a pleasant hotel that I hope will bring better things in the next year. Wow! What a joke! The rooms were from the mid 60's with newer linens Felt kind of creepy going in and the neighborhood is rundown...They are going thru a renovation? Well spending 8 million on the front entrance won't keep people coming back! Update the rooms!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Worst back pain after "sleeping" on this mattress. This was even one if their renovated rooms! I would say this is a motel 6 type room, with a very uncomfortable matteess. Nice that this place is "historic", but its just old!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice central location."
Though the hotel was undergoing some renovation, it was clean, comfortable and quiet. As we walked from our room into the parking lot, hotel staff appeared on a golf cart and took us to the front. "Not the worst place I've stayed..."
The staff was very friendlyand the location was nice and close to the shuttle, however the hotel just seemed outdated and a little grimy. The beds and pillows weren't very comfortable. The toilet in our room kept running every 20 minutes all through the night and the water pipes are very noisy when the water kicks off. Also, the fire alarm went off […] twice during our stay for no apparent reason. However, we did get a yummy breakfast from the buffet. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Disappoint in the Choo Choo"
Room was not ready to occupy. Bad enough renovations are under way, but no excuse for the room condition. Toilet dirt - not clean! Spider webs on lamps & shades. Mold in the tub/shower. Paper & trash on the floor. Way over priced for the conditions had to stay under. No excuses, just bad conditions.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel had signs up about getting ready to go through major renovations. They are definitely needed. The hotel rooms need major renovations. The campus just seems old and uncared for. Staff were nice and the locations was great.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel will be great once the renovation is complete. The only negative was that we stayed in building 3 where you must use the service elevator in the back of the hotel. Once they get the other elevator working it will be very nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean and comfy but very dated hotel"
The hotel is nice, convenient location, clean and comfortable enough but is is very very old, you can tell in the carpet, the bathrooms, the whole hotel in general . . . . . I know it is a very old building but you can tell rooms haven't been updated in yearsGenuine Hotels.com guest review

This hotel was an old railway station. It offers really neat train car rooms as well as regular hotel rooms. While the regular rooms aren't anything special, they were clean and the beds were comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
The location of the hotel is convenient for those on a road trip. Our room in Hotel 1 was substandard. The sink faucet, though new, was frozen. We could hardly move it. The sink backed up. There was a black ring around the bottom of the toilet. The bathroom door hinges were rusted. The hotel needs major repair.Genuine Expedia guest review
the hotel was not as well kept as I had hoped. When we arrived, we had plenty of towels but only one bathcloth. My husband were the only ones in the rooms but still you would have thought we would have had at least 2bathclothes. All in all I guess that it was an ok stay. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and the waitresses were helpful and curtious.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location for visiting Chattanooga"
The location and accessibility to the electric shuttle is outstanding!! The hotel in general was okay, a bit musty and older smelling, but alright. Most of the restaurants and shops directly around the hotel were closed for renovation, so right around the hotel was kind of boring. The electric shuttle was awesome and so convenient and free! Loved it! […] It only took a few minutes to get to downtown to all the great shops and eateries. Probably will stay there again just for the convenience ! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Helpful service, sub-par room"
The grounds/parking was a little confusing being Downtown Chattanooga, but the receptionist was very helpful in guiding me around. Even though I arrived after midnight, the receptionist was still very warm and welcoming and helpful. The room I stayed in was a deluxe King. The carpet by the "balcony" door was wet from the rain outside. I say "balcony" […] because the door did not open and even if it did, it was only about 3 inches wide with some railing. Not sure how that qualifies as a balcony. The bed was lumpy on one side which wasn't the end of the world since it was a King. I just had to lay on the other side. The TV was very grainy and the remote barely worked. The bathroom was OK. The shower had decent pressure though it did cycle through hot and cold for the 10 minutes I was in there. "Stay in the Train Car"
The train car is definitely worth the extra money. If you have little ones, they'll love it! It's a little noisy, but nothing too bothersome. Such a unique hotel and setting. It's in the middle of a renovation so we are excited to see what they can do with it. Disappointed in the condition of current rooms, pool, and restaurant. It has huge potential. Glad we didn't pay full rates as this point in time.Genuine Expedia guest review

This hotel could use some maintenance. The drains in the sink and tub were very slow draining. It was a one time historical experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
We were given a room that clearly had been used, the beds rumpled, soap package opened, wastebasket with trash. The hotel quickly sent a security man with the keys to a room nearby, but we were tired and there was no excuse for the problem. "Always wanted to stay in an old sleeper train"
We love everything old, and wanted to stay in one of the old sleeper cars at the Choo Choo. The room was very spacious, well decorated and very comfortable. Surprisingly quiet. Bathroom was small, which should be expected. Overall, extremely charming - probably one of my favorite places to stay ever. Seemed a little bit chintzy to charge for parking […] on their own lot, however. It is undergoing renovation, so some areas are shut down. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"In need of a complete makeover."
The hotel is being 'renovated' so there is construction in the lobby are AND all of the shops etc are closed in the facility. The rooms are more in need of renovation than the lobby. The light fixtures are dirty and falling out of their frames, carpets are dirty, mattresses are very old (thankfully no bugs), the water ran brown from the faucets for […] the first minute when turned on, we were put on the second floor and told the elevators were out so we had to use the stairs or a smelly service elevator, and none of the vending machines worked. To top it off they ask you to pay an additional payment to park in the lot above the room fee for no apparent reason. We paid for two nights but left one day early because we simply could not stay there another night. Upon check out EVERY guest in line ahead of me complained and the clerk seemed to care less because she obviously receives negative feedback all day long. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel is under renovation. Our elevators were not working so everyone in our building (building 3) had to use the service elevator which was old and loud and very jerky. (Made people a little nervous) the hallway wallpaper was peeling off the walls on every floor. Our keys didn't work when we arrived so maintenance had to come while we waited in […] the hallway with all of our luggage and work on our door lock to get our keys working. The room itself was very big and nice which was a plus after the first impression was so bad. "You should stay at the Chattanooga Choo Choo!"
Loved our one night stay at the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel. My husband and I were in town for a quick business trip and often opt for historic locations when available in an area. Usually it would be a one time thing because most old hotels we've visited are beautiful but not the most comfortable. However, we would definitely stay at the Choo Choo […] again. Even though the buildings were dated, it was great because that's what we expected! It was easy to picture times, 50 years ago, when the terminal was bustling with travelers. Our king sized room was comfortable and quiet. (Would love to try one of the train car rooms next time!) The gardens were lovely and the staff that we encountered were great, even showing us a short cut to the restaurant we wanted to visit. The location was near many great restaurants and a little over a mile from the riverfront area but right on the free shuttle line. Overall our stay at the Chattanooga Choo Choo was a wonderful one! I've already recommended it to numerous friends (especially those with kids who like trains!!) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

When we arrived, the hotel had booked the incorrect number of rooms for our party. Without saying a thing, the person at the desk disappeared into the backroom. After waiting a few minutes, perplexed, we asked one of the other staff members where he went and found out he was talking to the manager. 15 minutes later he came out and fixed the problem […] without apology or explanation. After a long day of travel and meetings, we got back to our hotel room at 8:30 pm. There was a very loud lounge singer outside our hotel room on the patio. We could here him loud and clear. We waited until 9 and then called the front desk. Again, we were left on hold for an extended period of time. The said another party in the hotel had booked over a year ago and it was their entertainer. Their solution was that quiet hours started at 11 pm. It was a Wednesday night! The hotel is under construction, so some of the uncleanliness was understandable. The bathroom was clean and the beds were comfortable enough. The tv was rather slow at turning on and switching channels but worked. What they are doing with the facilities is nice, but it seems like staff needs some upgrades, too.
