"10 minutes from Tufts University"
It was fine. It was a short trip - we arrived on a Tuesday around lunchtime. Left the hotel quickly after checking in to go to the Tufts campus, returned Tuesday night before dinner, went back out for dinner in Medford (Davis Square), and returned to sleep. When we left the hotel early Wednesday morning to return to Tufts, we did not return to the hotel. […] The hotel nor the location was not extraordinary but more than satisfactory. We felt The Holiday Inn Somerville provided a merely adequate service during our stay. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful; however, the rest of the service was not impressive and efficient. The room was small and had a stale smell. We traveled with three children; we requested a roll away bed in our room and paid for it in advance. While […] on arrival night, the front desk staff had to make three calls to get someone responsible to bring the bed to our room. Once the bed was rolled into the room; the staff was not prepared to set up the bed for us. I had to ask him to do so. The service of the hotel’s restaurant was slow as well. Another incidence was that the day after we checked out; my son realized that he left his sunglasses in the room. Since we were still in the area; we called the hotel’s lost and found. It took a while for us to actually speak to someone there; their response was really slow. The only happy ending was that we did get the sunglasses back. We really wanted a non-smoking room but when we booked we were told they were sold out. The breakfast was included in the price of the room which we could either get the buffet or off the menu, as well as free parking and free wi-fi, a big bonus. I booked this hotel based on star rating and advertised proximity to Universities in Cambridge. The closeness may be related to how the crow flies, but not at all by car or walking - not that I believe that I would reach any of the schools alive if I walked in the neighborhood... The surrounding neighborhood is downright shady, so don't even consider […] this hotel unless you have a reliable car. The hotel's building is OKish - a la par with older Holiday Inn properties. The only nice part of the hotel is the newly-renovated pool, but check on its limited opening hours! Service is very poor, hotel food is bad, and managers are rude. It was lousy. We got no sleep the last night because of a party next door, which began at 2AM. We complained to the front desk but nothing happened. We called again and the front desk actually argued with me saying they could not find a party. I can barely hear the front desk over the phone because the party was so loud! I told them to come to my room […] because the party must be there since it is so lound in my room. Anyway, even after the front desk finally found the party it continued. Additionally, when we atre in the restaurant the service was absent. I wish we knew that the pool and hot tub were closed for renovations before I booked this hotel. We would have chosen a different hotel, so that was 1st disappointment. 2nd disappointment came when my husband and I ordered supper in the hotel restaurant. I had ordered the Bourbon Steak tips but received a burger because apparently our waitress didn't […] hear me. I was starved so just kept the burger instead of waiting another 20 minutes for cooks to remake my meal. No compensation was offered nor given. I ordered strawberry shortcake to go. Got to our room, took out the desert, and no silverware was included. Sent my husband back down to the restaurant for silverware, and he decided to order apple pie warmed with ice cream to go.
