"Staff needs more training"
Service from the front desk and in the new restaurant was poor. The front was nearly completely unhelpful if not missing. On two separate occasions in the restaurant my server either completely forgot I was there and went to do other things like bartend. When I ordered lunch on a Saturday they didn't even give me a drink or tend to me in any way. They […] sat me down then began talking to other employees. The newly re-designed hotel looks great! They just need to train their employees a bit more to match the level of the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Mixed Bag"
This hotel is only a 6-7 minute walk to the subway. The walk isn't scenic. It isn't scary either. Our room was clean and comfortable for the most part, but we received no housekeeping at all one day when we left the hotel around 11 a.m. and returned around 11 p.m. We had to call 3 times for fresh towels and then they only brought one! There were three […] of us in the room. On the plus side, the shuttle service was good and the people at the front desk were friendly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bargain two minutes north of the city"
Staff was friendly and room was good. I only wish there were queen beds instead of just 1 king or 2 double, as we were traveling with 3 young grandsons. Pool area has games, basketball, and a rock-climbing wall. Subway is a short three blocks from the hotel. We were able to use public transit and avoid rental cars or taxis, allowing us to see and do […] (and afford) more. We had wonderful pizza just across the street from the hotel. The rooms in this Holiday Inn are great and I am sure that this hotel has the potential to be good, but the staff were not openly friendly and ultimately it was overpriced. The convenience to the hwy was nice, but the only place worth visiting within walking distance is The Tavern at the End of the World.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"food and housekeeping marginal"
I stayed three nights. Housekeeping did not even show up to make my one of the days or take away my Caesar salad container from their restaurant the entire time I was there. The food at the hotel was marginal. My coleslaw was warm and crab cakes extremely greasy. Additionally, the next morning my cream curdled in my coffee when I poured it in from […] the "complimentary" area. It would have been nice if one of the room's windows opened as well. "Nice hotel but staff was disappointing"
My wife and kids (3) and I stayed here to do a few days of Boston sightseeing. Our experience overall was fairly decent. One glaring issue while leaving dropped my rating a notch. First of all, I will tell you I booked this hotel because of a limited number of choices for a "last minute planning" trip. I, like I imagine most other people, was very leery […] of staying in East Sommerville Mass. It has a lousy reputation on the internet and the locals have renamed it Slummerville. This worry turned out to be totally baseless upon actual experience. Sure, it looks like it might not be the very best of neighborhoods at first glance but after checking in I took a little walk after dark to see if we were going to be safe walking to the very nearby metro station (Sullivan Square on the much maligned orange line). The first thing I noticed was that there were locals, young women in fact, out after dark jogging and coming home from the subway alone. That right there says things probably aren't that bad. In fact there were all sorts of people out after dark apparently not worried about crime. Like with any area, keep your attention on your surrondings and don't be quick to judge. The hotel was pretty good. clean large rooms with plenty of power outlets. Bad experience with check out when front desk tried to charge me twice for one day's breakfast even though it was obvious on the bill it was a duplicate, had to make him get the signed receipts to believe me. That cost them. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I stayed one night at this hotel with 4 teenagers. Rooms were clean, staff was helpful. The neighborhood isnt the greatest but I never felt unsafe. It is really close to the Sullivan Square T stop which is very convenient.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Smells old; staff always were watching us; it needs show ticket to get breakfast even though I had paid for 5 people, had a hard time to get breakfast to 5th person for a kind hotel rule; I had spent 5 days before on Homewood suits and it was a chock the difference between a nice hotel and holiday inn. So never more I will pass this frustrated experience […] again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

booked this hotel online so was not sure what i was getting. so pleasantly surprised, the hotel was wonderful with a great indoor pool/playroom. they offered free parking with a free shuttle to any destination within 3 miles of the hotel. the shuttle took me and my girls (6 and 12 years old) to quincy market/faneuil hall and promptly picked us up when […] i called to hotel. all staff was pleasant and helpful and kids 12 and under eat free (bonus!). the room was very nice with a king bed with sleep couch, very confortable bed! i would definitely recommend to anyone, the price was right. "not quite cheap enough to be worth the hassle"
This is where you stay when all other options are unavailable. It's a bit of a haul (about 4-5 blocks) from sullivan T stop, so with luggage that's a consideration. The neighborhood is very working class and without any charm (or real restaurants, etc), so it's a place to sleep ONLY. I found it a bit expensive for what I got, but it was clean and quiet. […] In retrospect, I would have paid slightly more to be better located. I do not think the value outweighed the location. Other parts of Somerville are much more hip. This is a Holiday Inn as you would find in many places. It is close to a subway station and bus stop, but the area is not interesting at all. My main complaint was the constant traffic noise which made it difficult to sleep. I could also hear people in the next room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Overall a good, comfortable hotel"
Hotel staff and front desk not very friendly at all - didn't ask how our stay was when we checked out. When we checked in, we had to ask for directions to our room. Our kleenex box and coffee were not replenished for the next day's stay, so we had no coffee or tissues in our room. "Very nice hotel walking distance from the T"
This a very pleasant and, by Boston standards, inexpensive hotel. The staff was pleasant and the room clean and comfortable. "close to Sullivan Sq. station, clean, nice"
Though the immediate neighborhood is lacking in character and services, this hotel is within a 5 minutes walk to Sullivan Square Station (Orange line), making it convenient to access downtown Boston. The hotel is also very clean, provides Bath & Body Works shower amenities, features a 24-hour gym, and offers shuttle service within a 2-mile radius.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean, comfortable, not much around it."
Clean, modern, and comfortable room. No complaints there. Not much around the location and a bit of a walk to things in Cambridge, though it's pretty close to Charlestown. Wifi worked very poorly all 5 nights; it was unusable for work. The coffee maker was missing a key piece necessary for making coffee.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was nice and cozy...well kept. The service was just ok. The dining area was being renovated as well as the parking lot. I would not recommend room service. The rooms were perfect. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great and the kids loved eating at the Nantucket Grill, so convenient! "Nice hotel at reasonable price"
I like the hotel. The rate is reasonable. There is not much to do near the hotel, but you only need to go a few miles to get to downtown Boston and Harvard square. The only complaint is that the hotel seemed to turn off the heat completely, and it got quite cold during a Spring night here. I got up at 3am due to the cold, tried to turn on the heater […] but failed, and had to go back to bed wearing my jacket. Other than that, everything was nice. Perhaps you should only go here during the summer (when you don't need a heater at night) or the winter (when I'm sure the hotel must turn on the heater). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel in not so nice area"
The hotel is brand new, super clean.Really nice furnishings in and out of the room. Pool area is also brand new. Friendly staff. The problem is that it seemed to be in an area that is not very nice, meaning that it's not the best part of Boston. "Nice hotel, rude staff"
The hotel is very clean and the rooms updated and spacious. However, we were on a higher floor and the poor sealing of the windows made the room drafty, not to mention loud, when the wind blew. However my biggest complaint is that most of the staff we encountered were unhelpful or downright rude. (The restaurant servers are an exception.) The front […] desk employees were completely unsympathetic when I had a problem that was partially their fault. No smile, no apology, no offer to assist. I will not return to this hotel as a result, no matter how nice the rest of it is. Also, be aware that no matter how many people are booked in your room, you only get free breakfast for two of them. "room dirty , pool you can't use"
I stayed at the Holiday Inn with my son on New Years Eve, I live in Somerville so we stayed there to do something fun like go swimming. The pool was not open during the day the hours were 6:30 AM -10:00 AM and 4:00 PM - till 9:00. My plan was to eat breakfast, we did it was OK only because I had a free coupon for breakfast other wise it was terrible. […] Than we were going to swim before checking out. My 11 year old son went to the front desk to see what time the pool was going to open and they told him it was closing in ten minutes. He and I was very disappointed and checked out before the check out time. The manager said we could come back to use the pool at 4:00. I just wish they mention the pool hours before I booked and paid in full for the room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
