"Excellent location! Great views of Portland."
5 minute walk to Old Port and downtown Portland. Our room overlooked Portland harbor, which was very pretty.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good in the Maine"
We were very satisfied with the room and the location. My only criticism is that the cheddar crust on the diced potatoes and eggs was too hard and too thick. The staff was courteous and friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This was our first trip to Maine and we wanted a hotel central to everything. This one is right downtown and an easy walk to the port. the hotel willingly shuttled us to restaurants in the evening. Without asking we were given an upper story room with panoramic views of the bay, including sunrise and moonrise.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very hospitable staff!"
We arrived late, stayed only one night, and the staff was accommodating in giving us a late check-out. The shuttle van driver drove us to our breakfast destination at 7:00am which was very nice too. Staff was friendly and we enjoyed our brief stay!Genuine Expedia guest review
Rooms are smelly, wasn't aware that hotels still have smoking roomsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
At check-in, I was told by hotel staff that there is a $10 per vehicle parking fee in effect. When I said that I had read on a travel website (I just now verified this on the other site) that the fee would not continue past August, the staff person at the desk insisted that the fee was still in place and refused to even look into it. Aside from the […] frustration that resulted from this conversation at check-in, the stay overall was ok. I have stayed at this hotel many times. It's very pricey for what you get, but the proximity to the Old Port is fantastic. The view is nice too. But the hotel's features are nothing special. We found old wine corks on the chair in our room at check-in, and one person in our party was unhappy with the mattress quality. The bathtub was a little grubby-looking too, but overall, it was ok. Really, the key feature of this hotel is the proximity to other things... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"why is it so hard to get towels?"
Had a lovely stay at Holiday Inn, quiet, great location and parking but we called to ask for towels twice (in the evening and morning) and they never arrived. I felt like we were inconveniencing the hotel, although there was a maid's closet on our floor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"!st time to Portland, ME"
Excellent walking distance to old town, downtown and port. Had breakfast at hotel, wonderful!. Needed to use computer as well, privacy which was welcomed.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Bed was worn out"
The bed in our room was firm on one side, soft on the other and felt tilted. They charged us for parking too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to State Theater"
A nice clean room close to the Old Port and in our case the State Theater, our ultimate destination.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Basil Fawlty Lives!"
I travel a lot for my work and am usually very happy with the manners and overall courtesy of hotel staff. My group had a couple of meetings at this hotel in 2005 and 2007, but relocated to a different venue because of the appalling lack of even basic good manners of the staff at the hotel. Many dlegates to our meeting complained about the rudeness […] of reception staff, and I experienced the same treatment. I would have hoped that management would have worked on this in the interim, but they have not. When we checked in on Sunday, I was appalled by the lack of even common courtesies sich as "please" and "thank you." I don't expect to be fawned upon, but expect better than, "I need a credit card and ID;" no "please," no "thank you." and that was the tone of our whole interaction. On check-out the young man on duty was the polar opposite; polite and understanding that the term "guest" has a real meaning. The check-in has convinced me, however, that I should never stay at this hotel again. Obviously there is no attempt to rectify a long-standing situation and I find that very disappointing. "Did the job."
With wife and 2 kids and was really just needing a place to sleep for one night. Did the job. Beds fine, shower fine, clean, not out of date (except the AC unit but it worked). No problems. Did not use pool or go to restaurant.Genuine Expedia guest review
We had a great time in Portland, the restaurants we visited were very close to HIE.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nice Hoilday Inn. Just hat the fact that the standard room to select is smoking anything else would be considered an "upgrade".Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Walk to everything"
We chose this hotel because of it's location. You can walk to everything in Portland if you are in moderately good shape. The folks behind the desk are super friendly and very helpful. The room was a smoking room, because that's all they had available. It smelled like stale cigarette smoke and there were burn holes in the blankets and on the carpet […] and the room just had a dirty feel all together. I'm sure if we had complained, they would have switched our room, but we didn't see the point if all they had left were smoking rooms. The cleaning people didn't come until later in the afternoon, which is usually when we were taking a nap after waking up and walking all around for the morning, so we never got the room cleaned. They didn't have an included breakfast, and that kinda sucked, but the food we ordered from their restaurant was very good. I had the garden omelet and later we both had the lobster roll. Very good on both. The vending machines on just about every floor were sold out. Oh, also, the toilet paper they use there is horrible! Haha, kinda weird to mention that, and I usually wouldn't, but it was that bad. We would stay here again, but request a non-smoking room and bring our own TP ;) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Free shuttle + Bay view"
We checked in early on Monday (around noon), and our room was on the 10th floor (total is 11 floors) so we can enjoyed the fantastic view of the harbor. The staffs were very helpful, and the hotel provided us free shuttle bus service multiple times during our stay. The room is clean and neat, you we found everything we need in our room. The lobby has […] free coffee, tea and lemonade. There is a restaurant in the lobby where we had our breakfast and enjoyed it very much. The location is good as it's only two streets away from the tourist center, the Old Port. You can get a trolley ride, boad ride, shop the boutiques, and have seafood right there. "Good location, great stay"
We spend a night at this Holiday Inn and quite enjoyed ourselves. The airport shuttle service runs until 1 A.M., so we were able to catch it despite delayed flights. The hotel is located close to the Portland Museum of Art and the Old Port. Breakfast not included, but the food is good. We would recommend staying here.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Inconsiderate lobby bar incident."
I stayed their with a wedding party in Sunday Aug 4th. After the reception, the wedding party and guests decided to head back to the hotel and have a few drinks. After a few drinks in a family friends surprises everyone with a late night bite to eat and delivers over a dozen burgers from Nos. Right away, we were asked not to eat at the bar (after […] all of us ordering tons of drinks and NO FOOD was on the menu) We had no choice but to eat in the LOBBY! the hotel could have made an exception considering it was late night and the guests were in happy spirits that night. "comfortable last minute deal"
Got this room for a good deal last minute when it was too rainy to camp. I wouldn't suggest it as a great vacation destination hotel. The beds were not comfortable and the room was not as clean as I expected. I was fumbling around to find the switch for the lamp and ended up with dusty fingers. "A great place to stay in Portland"
Pleasantly surprised! The hotel was clean, well-run, and in a fantastic location. Great pool and plenty of parking. Only weak point was the breakfast buffet in the dining room. That was truly awful. Eggs tasted like they were cooked last week, bacon looked like it had never been cooked at all. Waffles were like bricks. I stayed for the first night of my vacation, and it really set the tone for a great trip. The staff went out of their way to help make my stay a comfortable and enjoyable one, and were incredibly friendly on top of that. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable, although it is a 10-15 minute walk or so from the waterfront area. There are lots of good […] smaller (and less touristy) restaurants, stores, and businesses near the hotel though so I would recommend checking those out as well. "They nickel and dime you!"
During my trip back East I stayed in 4 hotels. 3 of them were very nice. Free parking, free breakfast, and free milk to fill my son's bottle for sleeping. When I got to Holiday Inn I was immediately surprised that they charge $10 A NIGHT to park!!! No free breakfast either. And when we took my son's bottle downstairs to get some milk, they charged us! […] Really?! Too bad the end of our trip had to end with us being nickeled and dimed! You think a big chain like Holiday Inn could afford to treat their customers well. Would not recommend! "Perfectly fine option"
This is a perfectly adequate, limited service hotel. It is a reasonably close walk to the harbor area and very close to the Portland Museum of Art. "Great location and front desk"
Non-smoking room had a less than fresh smell. Bed was extremely soft (too soft for me). Otherwise, facilities were excellent and staff was great. Short walk to harbor. Will stay here next time in Portland.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great service and location"
We had a harbor view and we loved it. When we were ready to go to dinner, the front desk offered a free shuttle service down to the restaurants and shopping area. "A good basic stay"
Clean, comfortable, free wi-fi and parking, and very nice staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
I was quite disappointed with my stay at Portland's Holiday Inn by the Bay. Being a long-time Priority Club member and frequenter of this particular hotel, I was very upset with the most recent treatment we received. They go out of their way to make you aware of the perks enjoyed by Priority Club members. They even give you a handy index card listing […] those perks. One advantage is a 2PM checkout, rather than 12. All you need to do is request it, which I did. It is not an "upon availability" perk, unlike the room upgrade perk, rather a perk granted to PC members. This particular time, I was very thankful to have the late checkout, because my wife was quite sick upon waking on our last day. Instead, we were forced out of our room at noon, after 2 attempts by the maid service to enter our room and not one, but THREE calls by the front desk to hurry us up and force us out of the room. All of this in spite of my pleas for my wife's condition and to remind them of the promised 2pm checkout. I was thoroughly disgusted with the treatment, am unlikely to stay at the hotel again, and will likely reconsider my priority club membership. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean, servicable hotel"
Our stay at the Holiday Inn By the Bay was fine. The hotel is a typical three-star affair. It has decent amenities, and the beds/rooms were in fine shape. The best feature, for sure, is its location. Most of downtown Portland is within walking distance, and I think the hotel even offers shuttle service (we didn't bother with it). There is a fee for […] parking, which we weren't aware of before checking in. The fee was reasonable; however, so I wouldn't let it put you off. The pool is hard to find. There's no signage on the elevators or in any common areas that we could find. It's in the basement, which is somewhat dreary. The small gym is well appointed, and the machines were in working order. One odd note: our TV was very dim. It was a LCD panel, but I couldn't seem to figure out any way to brighten Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

This hotel is right where you want to be to access Portland's restaurants and make your meetings on time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel in general was okay - but the service in the rooms was poor. For example, the bath mat was removed and not replaced for the next day - the same with the shower cap. Used towels were left in a heap in the bathroom and the sink was not cleaned. The bed was not made completely for the second night and what was made was very messy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"One night back in Portland"
I was very impressed with the hotel in general. Nice room with a great view of Casco Bay, friendly staff. There was some construction just down the road, but that was only a very minor convenience. Within a short walking distance of downtown, and even closer to my favourite pub in Portland, Brian Boru. I would certainly stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great old-port stay"
Great location within walking distance of old-port and nice views of the bay. Good hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel provided what we needed in the way of location as it was walking distance to everything that we wanted to go to. The ability to park for free was a bonus, although I understand that as of the near future, parking will incur a charge. The Front Desk staff were especially gracious and helpful. The beds do not have comforters with Duvets and […] as I like a heavier weight on me, I called down for an extra blanket and it arrive very quickly and did the trick. All in all, I would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
