We stayed at this hotel during the off season and consequently received a great room rate. It was obvious there were only a few guests at the hotel during this time. Within minutes of our checking in, we were aware that our room was connected to a major motor of some kind. We asked if we could be moved to a different room. This was done quickly, and the new room was much quieter. My guess, though, is that the hotel staff knew the original room would be noisy but placed us there anyway in spite of having many available rooms.

Obvious cosmetic upgrades, however; you could tell the building was old and worn. The bathrooms are small and floors and tub are old. On the positive side, the staff was extremely helpful when we needed extra blankets or had questions but don't expect a grand continental breakfast...just the basics bagels and cereal. It was definately overpriced in my opinion. I will probably try a different hotel in the area next time.

Hallways and elevator were extremely HOT/No air conditioning(made breakfast even more appealing). However the room was nice and had working air conditioning.working microwave and refrig. LOUD Alarm went off 3 times during the night, scared the ----out of us(we were on the 4th floor)..front desk did not answer phone until 3rd try. Apparently someone was stuck in the elevator?? Our room card key did not work every night when we returned to the hotel. This was annoying after a long, hot, tiring day when you want to just jump in the shower. Instead you get to see the (one) night desk clerk. One night my toilet was stuck. I had a choice of plunging it myself (one night clerk) or waiting until the maintenance man came in the next morning (I plunged it). Another night, someone got stuck in the elevator and set off the fire alarm because nobody responded to the elevator alarm (one night clerk). It is terrifying to have the fire alarm go off at night when you are in a hotel with your children. Then, the hotel was surrounded by fire trucks and firemen responding to the alarm. What a commotion. If I were a college kid this place might be OK, but with a family, it was a drag.

I had read the reviews posted about renovations at this hotel and called to make certain they were complete before booking. The hotel was finished by the time we arrived in May and when we checked in we were greeted by friendly desk staff. Our room was on the third floor, a king bed and a sofa bed. The king bed was comfortable but the sofa bed had a thin mattress on it which allowed the metal bars to make the night uncomfortable for my son. He slept upside down, which helped. The room was clean, the bathroom was nice, newly wallpapered and had everything we needed. There were no odors in the room and we had plenty of room for the two nights we stayed. The breakfast bar the next morning was fine, plenty of coffee and the gentleman waiting on us was fast and pleasant even though there was a tour bus of high schoolers there. The only complaint we had was the strong chlorine smell of the swimming pool coming into the lobby and downstairs hallway. The pool is indoors, so I suppose that can't be helped if you want a clean pool. Our stay was enjoyable, the staff spoke to us every time they saw us and we were happy with the hotel. There was a nice exercise room with a tv available downstairs with what looked like new treadmills and bikes. There is also a coin laundry which comes in handy if you have small children or it rains while you're out. We will stay here again when in the area.

While the breakfast did leave something to be desired, it was sufficient to hold you over until you found something else (recommend Marino's Pancake House on Richmond, about a 10 minute walk, though there are other places even closer). Otherwise this was everything I wanted in a hotel for half the price of anything comparable. The service was great, the front-desk staff attentive and willing to help for any requests, the room was clean and comfortable and quiet (even with a youth group staying on the hall, we didn't hear anything). It's an easy walk to restaurants and convenience stores, and even downtown/historic Williamsburg was walkable (about a half hour with a stroller, W&M is closer). I highly recommend it if you're looking for a reasonably priced hotel close to the attractions with the ammenities of something twice the price.

The room and amenities were what I expected. The rooms had recently been updated but the pool area could have been cleaner and pool warmer. The hotel room was only stocked with one roll of toilet paper and the floor liner in the tub was peeling and had a lot of mold where the liner was coming up. I noticed this when my child grabbed the liner in the bath (it was peeled up on the edge several inches but blended into the tub.) We had decided upon this hotel for the indoor pool and was disappointed at the water tempature and cleanliness of the pool.

We chose this hotel based on the price and the fact that there was an indoor pool and continental breakfast. We were traveling with a group that was staying at a more expensive location. My husband and son were going to hang out at the hotel to use the pool while the group was at an event. Unfortunately, the pool was very cold and the hot tub was very hot. Also the pool and tub looked a little dirty, but it may have been the age. The date was not filled in on the board, so we're not sure when the last test was done on the water, but the results posted showed very low levels of chlorine in the pool and hot tub. As for the breakfast, the only fruit was bananas, three choices of cereal with only two scoops (a child with another guest used hands to get their cereal), coffee with grounds and no flavor, frozen bagels with frozen cream cheese, a loaf of white bread spread out on a tray for toast, toaster not working, french toast sticks mushed together. Decided to make coffee in the room with the single serve maker provided, which is convenient, but there was only one regular coffee. Only Decaf was available at the front desk and on the maid cart. The room itself was very nice. Everything was clean and comfortable in the room and the Lobby area.

I spend a great deal of time in Wiliamsburg and have stayed in more bad hotels there than I care to remember. This was my fourth stay at this hotel and it continues to be the best hotel in the area in this price range. Rooms were updated when they switched owners, beds and pillows were clean and comfortable. The staff is super helpful, if you do have a problem they fix it very quickly. Easy three or four minute drive to the Visitors Center, restaurants all around so you don't have to drive. And it is always nice and quiet. The only thing I would suggest is that if you are near the outside doors ask for a room further down the hall. Those doors can slam all night long. Other than that I will continue to be a loyal customer.
