The hotel location from the airport was fairly close. Since my appointment was in Hillside, this hotel really fit the bill. Upon arrival, I was given a non-smoking room when a smoking room was specifically requested. Of course, by the time I arrived there were none available. After check-in when I arrived at my floor there was a peculiar smell. I am still not sure what it was, but it had be associated with the cleaning that was going on at 10 pm when I arrived. The room itself was fine. I did need to contact the front desk regarding my internet connection to get a cable, which wasn't pointed out when I asked previously. Food was available very late, which was a plus. The front desk employees were extremely helpful during my stay: printing out my boarding passes and providing directions. All in all, a decent stay considering the location and price I paid for the room.

When I made my reservations via the 800# I was assurred I would have a king sized bed upon arrival i was told there was only rooms with the 2 double beds available. The walls are very thin and the room next to us was being renovated so the workers started early on a Saturday morning and they were loud which i thought was a little rude. Both the check in and check out clerk could use a little more customer service skills. After construction is completed i may try them again.

unable to sleep due to the horrendous smell coming from the landfill in the area. Smell was so strong that it made the 3 of us sick. We cancelled after the first night and found another hotel.

The hotel was undergoing renovation to become a Best Western, so I can forgive the bland furnishings and room numbers written on sticky tape on the doors. After all, it was the only remaining hotel for a last minute booking now that the megalithic McCormick Centre sucks up all Chicago hotel rooms for its 35,000 people conferences. However, it was advertised as having a 'shuttle' service to the airport and to the end of the blue line. Unfortunately this implied to me a regular revolving service, when in fact it was an 'on availability' service and the hotel gave precedence to railroad contractors. I was told to ring 30 mins in advance and when I did was told there would be no bus available for 2 hours. Perhaps a better hotel for people with cars (isn't America the land of the car?) - perhaps. Depends if they like to eat terrible uncooked pasta for dinner (I did - once - and ate out every night afterwards) and, worst of all, can cope with the STENCH of the town dump which is situated at the rear of the hotel. I thought something had died under my bed before I checked in, but it was just the all pervasive sickly sour stink of rotten trash. And that's not anything that even good service, clean sheets and nice food could ever make up for. I'd recommend giving this place a wide berth...

The Chicago Hillside, in itself, was an a fairly decent hotel. Rooms were clean and beds fairly comfortable. Unfortunately, it sits right next door to one of Chicago's major landfills. The area is filled with the stench of burning and rotting garbage. The outside smell seeps into the rooms. This is especially noticeable when the air conditioner kicks on. It is a sickening odor. It's especially horrific when you leave the hotel in the morning and you'er hit with this decaying odor. We would have left if not for the fact that all the other hotels in the area were booked (a big conference in town). Guess I'm not surprised this hotel still had vacancy. My friends and I were sick when we arrived home two days later. Do not go to this hotel!

The Chicago Hillside hotel is located in the comparatively dangerous Hillside area, and locals in downtown Chicago wished us luck not getting mugged. Located next to the Hillside Landfill, a pungent aroma permeates all aspects of the hotel. Moreover, the hotel is undergoing a renovation, so there is no lettering on the sign outside, the staff cannot give good direction to taxi drivers coming in from O'Hare (a nine mile cab ride ended up costing me $75), there are too few people to provide service in the dining room, and room numbers are scribbled on masking tape on the outside of the doors.

We booked this hotel because of its location - wanted to be near a friend's home. When we got there, the front desk personnel was quite unprofessional in her encounters with clients - would answer telephone calls in the middle of conversation, flippant in responses, etc... Although we'd requested double beds/no smoking, they put us in a king size bed in a smoking room. The hotel is next to a landfill that smells strongly. By the next morning, our allergies / asthma was so bad we had to check out early.

Somebody forgot to mention that this hotel is right next door (I'm not kidding) to a landfill. It stunk to the high heavens. And, somebody else forgot to mention that it is right in the middle of an extensive remodel. There was dust, dirt, noise and general irritants the whole stay. How did it ever get a 3 star rating?!!
