"Adios, Don Fernando"
This was our fourth time staying here. Despite site improvements and renovations--hot tub, bar area--there seems to be a decline in service and general upkeep. The concrete stairs to the second floor are cracking. Our air con was extremely noisy. Trash in the foyer was not picked up In the three days we stayed there. The complimentary breakfast, which […] we were told ran till ten, was out of eggs and pancakes by nine and requests to refill them were ignored, leaving only cereal and stale bread. On the plus side, the landscaping was well maintained, the decor is authentically southwestern, and the staff was generally courteous , but their absence was felt when they were needed, especially in the dining area. On our next trip to Taos, we will be staying somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Everybody got sick during our star at the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was extremely friendly and the hotel is very nice. Our room was clean but a little run down, still very comfortable. I think it may have just been an old room. I lived in Taos my whole life and the don fernando has always been there so they are bound to have some older rooms. The property is well kept, the bed are very comfy, and the hotel […] has a good central town location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was a good place to stay, except for the "complementary" breakfast. Quiet, comfy, clean, but they need to upgrade the TV's and stop advertising the breakfast if they aren't going to have it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This motel served our purpose of an affordable place to stay while we explored the plaza area. No complaints.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best stay on our 2 week motorcycle trip"
The hotel is very clean and modern. The breakfast was good and the staff was excellent. The new owner engaged in conversation and she was a delight to talk with. The cleaning staff went out of their way to accomodate us. The bathroom was spacious and very clean. All conviences worked....ie: heater, tv, plumbing, etc. The beds were comfortable, the curtains […] and blinds were in excellent condition and there was a fresh smell throughout the hotel and rooms. We stayed in seven hotels during our motorcycle ride through NM and this was the top of our stays. I am making it a point to return to Don Fernando again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great atmosphere But...."
The service was great, good rate, nice pool area, casita style rooms made the stay very pleasant but those were the worst, most uncomfortable beds. In desperate need of an upgrade to the comfortable bedsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful hotel with a disappointing bed"
The hotel itself is quite beautiful, southwestern tile, clean and inviting. I was disappointed in the room however. The king sized bed was old and hard, the pillows flat, the sheets cheap. Bathroom was forgettable. Street noise was loud, had to run the air conditioner all night in order to mask the noisy street.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable and quiet"
Very enjoyable, very courteous staff, convenient location.......Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for a low budget hotel"
You get what you expect for the price. The room was clean and didn't smell. TV worked well. The heater worked but only blew hot or cold. The toiletries were nice and bonus for being organic. Worst part was how hard the mattress was. I have a bad back and hardly slept. Had a lot of back pain/stiffness in the morning. Breakfast was minimalist but tasted […] good. The room I was in had wallpaper that was bubbling up and coming off. also the bathroom floor grout was gross. the bathroom counter was clearly put in by/for short people. I am 5'10 and it came to my thigh. The bathtub was skinny lucky for them I am too. If I had been over 150lb's showering or bathing would haven been difficult. The room I was in obviously […] was a smoking room before. Of course if you don't change the filters to the heating/air unit that could make the room remain stinky like smoke. My biggest complaint is that the room did not have a microwave. SO I had to go to the lobby and then I had to ask the staff for help. which by the way really did not want to let me use their staff microwave but finally did. I was not real impressed by the hotel for the price I thought it would be more updated and rooms in better condition. I might stay here again but not unless its a last resort. "I got a good price for very last minute"
We booked 1 week before spring break so I was surprised we got the rooms (2) in the first place. It was supposed to be 2 non smoking rooms, but 1 was definitely smoking. The hotel was booked full and they ran out of towels, but the staff bought more and brought brand new ones to us late in the evening. The heater worked well but didn't reach the bathroom […] which was ice cold. Staff was very friendly, but visibly stressed over the occupancy. If I had seen the hotel in person we probably wouldn't have stayed there. Probably won't go back, but for the last minute price we got, it was fine. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Best "Cheap Hotel" ever!"
We ( 3 adults, 2 4 years olds) stayed here for a Spring Break ski trip. I had called the hotel to inquire about some of the older reviews that indicated poor upkeep, and was assured that those issues had been taken care of. My expectations were very low, but we just needed an inexpensive, central place to sleep. Boy was I surprised! The hotel had more […] of a bed and breakfast feel, primarily because of the hospitality of the entire hotel staff, from the manager to the cleaning staff. Without exception, everyone we saw smiled and spoke to us. Our room was very comfortable, and spotless. Great beds, and a super- hot power-shower. Breakfast was hot and tasty (great coffee!), and varied from morning to morning. With everyone trying to get to slopes early, the breakfast room was usually full, but they never let the amount of food run low, nor did you have to wait for anything (important when getting two 4 year olds fed and out the door). The indoor pool and hot tub were clean and well maintained. The thing that surprised and pleased me the most was how quickly management took care of an issue we had with a group of spring break partiers beneath us. After our first call someone from management was there in just a few minutes. The second night when the late night door slamming started, someone from management was there within minutes to relocate these people, allowing us a peaceful night sleep. I would recommend Don Fernando to anyone staying in Taos. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We there in the winter and it was cold. The door to our room did not close tightly. There is extensive renovation going on which may take care of this. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The manager even asked us if there was anything he could do for us.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Drove all night from Texas and showed up way earlier than expected. The manager Josh greeted me with a smile and checked me into a room early at no extra charge. I was grateful for that since most places charge an extra 30 at least. After speaking with the new owner and Josh about why we came to Taos, they told us they would love for us to have access […] to the suite as well as our room! The room with two queens was huge! Plenty of room for snow gear and laggague for 4 people comfortably. The suite had a king and a fire place in a living area that made for a good meeting spot for everyone. Both rooms had little 'fridges that worked well for leftovers and a couple drinks. Would definitely stay here again, and with a larger group. We only had 3 and we were really spread out. It also had an excellent location too. Since its on the main drag it was easy to get to town or to any of the near by ski resorts. And Walmart is right across the street if you should happen to forget any supplies. Loved it here. Made me feel at home Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We have stayed at the Don Fernando multiple times in the past with good experiences. When we arrived the front desk attendant was nice. However, when we got to our rooms there was no coffee pot, fridge or microwave. Also there was dust on the counters. We went to the front desk and were advised that a maintenance worker would bring a coffee pot in a […] few hours. However they never came, so we asked again and the person who delivered seemed like he was upset to be bothered by us. He did not leave any coffee filters so we had to buy our own, luckily we brought our own coffee. The bed was not very comfortable and the area around the room was run down and dirty. The lobby used to have coffee and a buffet for breakfast but now you are given 4 choices which did not sound appetizing (a cheese omelet …add 3$ for bacon…come on really?) Overall it seems the quality has slipped. We travel to Taos 3-4 times a year and will most likely find a new place to stay on our next trip. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ok hotel to stay in"
The room was nice and roomy. The bathroom was disgustingly filthy. I chose this hotel because it is pet friendly but I didn't have to take my pet rabbit after all. I am glad I didn't because the floors and the carpets were very filthy. I had to scrub my grandson's feet so much after he insisted on having his socks off. The mattresses and pillows were […] very old. We made the best of it considering we stayed one night. Being with family and staying up late laughing will be our memory of this hotel. This is the second year we stayed at this hotel. The staff is great. Glad to have a hot tub this year. We feel for the price it is a good choice, but was disappointed in the buffet breakfast. The items were cold and selection was less than when we stayed last year.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The check in process was smooth. The room was all right. It's an older hotel, but nice. They said that they served a full hot breakfast, but we didn't find that to be true. There was 4 items to choose from. I asked the server what else came with the breakfast she nothing. If you ordered French toast that's all you get. No eggs, or breakfast meat. The […] orange juice was not actual orange juice but an orange drink from a powder mixture. We were disappointed with that. Other than that the stay was good. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great Hotel, Bad Breakfast"
The overall stay at the hotel was rather nice, we ended up in a rather large room for the price we paid which was a welcome surprise! However the only real complaint I have is the breakfast in the morning. When the young lady at the front desk said breakfast was at the attached restaurant in the morning I thought that was great that we were going to […] get a rather decent meal. Boy was I wrong. They breakfast choices they give you are limited to four items, none of which would fill up an average size person or even come close, and the drink choices you have are three different ones in a small little cup and they charge you full price for a refill. My wife and I ended up going down the road to get a second breakfast because this one was so poor. Oh in addition, they expect you to tip the waitress serving you your breakfast because its similar to a sit down breakfast, as it even says on the menu, tips not added to room charge. Overall the hotel was fine, breakfast was the downfall. I chose to stay here because I knew about the hotel because I was once local to the area, and I would stay here again when visiting, but will for sure not even waste my time on the breakfast. "Comfortable place to stay at a good price"
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Don Fernando de Taos. The room was comfortable. The kids enjoyed the heated pool. The breakfast was great each morning. The only downside was that the room didn't have a fridge or microwave which would have been a nice to have.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Wanted to check out as soon as I walked in the room. Pool was in disrepair and looked like the area hadn't been cleaned in a week. Room was very old including the beds. My 9 and 6 year old are still giving me grief for booking this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Something is going on with this Hotel"
This was our second stay at Don Fernando and we were disappointed this time. The first trip 4 years ago was great. The staff was great and very friendly but the facility is need of some repairs and updates. The hot tub was gone and a sign saying that it will be back in the summer of 2014. Guess what .... we don't need the hot tub as much in the summer. […] We were skiing in Taos and stayed at Don Fernando because of the indoor hot tub. We stayed in a suite and the TV's were not working properly and we called 3 times in our 5 night stay and no one ever came to repair them. We also had NO water pressure. The free breakfast was one of the worst in any hotel we have stayed at. In 5 days they could not get the breakers to work correctly. They kept tripping and the food and coffee would not stay hot. I have to re-state that the staff was great but the facility is in need of repairs. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Our room was NEVER cleaned, the breakfast was awful every morning, we had to go to the lobby to retrieve our towels and wash rags every evening, the lobby bathroom was out of toilet paper every day, the hot tube was out of order (this was the main reason we picked this place), and worst of all............ the beds were like sleeping on concrete.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Best Hotel in Taos!"
We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable, pleasurable stay. Hotel Don Fernando gave us one of our best stays in Taos, and we have tried several other hotels in the past. "Good start for new manangement"
We found the hotel to be comfortable and the staff and management to be very friendly.Genuine Expedia guest review
Pros: Breakfast selection consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage, bagels and jam assortment, cream cheese, three selections of cereals, milk juice, and coffee, but no tea. No bed bugs. Movie theater next door. Restaurants within walking distance. Walmart across the street. Cons: The room was dirty. Dirty bedspread. I was there for three nights and they […] never cleaned. The room and facilities were run down and in ill repair. The mini-fridge was broken--stayed at room temperature and constantly made electrical popping and crackling noises until I unplugged it fearing it would start a fire. I reported it to the front desk, but they made no attempt to fix or replace it. Filthy carpet was stained and had unknown substances stuck to it. Dirty bathroom. The toilet rocked when I sat on it. Dim lighting and some lamps had burned out bulbs. Insufficient electrical sockets. I had to unplug some lamps in order to charge my mobile units. Slow internet. Throughput was so slow I couldn't watch any video on my iPad. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We really enjoyed our stay. The breakfast wasn't all that great, but it was free. They have the space for an entire restaurant and full bar, I am not really sure why they don't have those. The room needed some maintenance and updating, but nothing that was horrible. The staff was super friendly and the swimming pool looked awesome (we didn't bring swimming […] suits so we didn't try it out). For the price, I definitely recommend this hotel in Taos. "Comfortable, clean stay"
The built-in heater was not working, but room already supplied an individual unit, which worked just fine on a fall snow day. Place was great, with 2 areas of concern. 1) not enough outlets for charging-- could not find any free ones other than in the bathroom. 2) breakfast was meh. But otherwise, enjoyed the stay very much, esp. for the value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
