We had a talk with the new owner during breakfast and he mentioned that he had just taken over and there are going to be redoing the place. It does need it. We have gone there every year. This year however the pool was was warm but freezing to watch(heater wasn't working)and hot tub under repair. I hope next year it will be great again. We will try […] it. "Great Hotel, Bad Breakfast"
The overall stay at the hotel was rather nice, we ended up in a rather large room for the price we paid which was a welcome surprise! However the only real complaint I have is the breakfast in the morning. When the young lady at the front desk said breakfast was at the attached restaurant in the morning I thought that was great that we were going to […] get a rather decent meal. Boy was I wrong. They breakfast choices they give you are limited to four items, none of which would fill up an average size person or even come close, and the drink choices you have are three different ones in a small little cup and they charge you full price for a refill. My wife and I ended up going down the road to get a second breakfast because this one was so poor. Oh in addition, they expect you to tip the waitress serving you your breakfast because its similar to a sit down breakfast, as it even says on the menu, tips not added to room charge. Overall the hotel was fine, breakfast was the downfall. I chose to stay here because I knew about the hotel because I was once local to the area, and I would stay here again when visiting, but will for sure not even waste my time on the breakfast. "Comfortable place to stay at a good price"
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Don Fernando de Taos. The room was comfortable. The kids enjoyed the heated pool. The breakfast was great each morning. The only downside was that the room didn't have a fridge or microwave which would have been a nice to have.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Find Another Hotel for Your Family"
Wanted to check out as soon as I walked in the room. Pool was in disrepair and looked like the area hadn't been cleaned in a week. Room was very old including the beds. My 9 and 6 year old are still giving me grief for booking this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Something is going on with this Hotel"
This was our second stay at Don Fernando and we were disappointed this time. The first trip 4 years ago was great. The staff was great and very friendly but the facility is need of some repairs and updates. The hot tub was gone and a sign saying that it will be back in the summer of 2014. Guess what .... we don't need the hot tub as much in the summer. […] We were skiing in Taos and stayed at Don Fernando because of the indoor hot tub. We stayed in a suite and the TV's were not working properly and we called 3 times in our 5 night stay and no one ever came to repair them. We also had NO water pressure. The free breakfast was one of the worst in any hotel we have stayed at. In 5 days they could not get the breakers to work correctly. They kept tripping and the food and coffee would not stay hot. I have to re-state that the staff was great but the facility is in need of repairs. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Our room was NEVER cleaned, the breakfast was awful every morning, we had to go to the lobby to retrieve our towels and wash rags every evening, the lobby bathroom was out of toilet paper every day, the hot tube was out of order (this was the main reason we picked this place), and worst of all............ the beds were like sleeping on concrete.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel room was clean. The bed was firm. The water pressure was good and there was plenty of warm water. The staff was friendly. It met all of my desires and expectations.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
None of the ammenities were working polyester bed cover should have been my warning sign. I would never stay here againGenuine Expedia guest review

"Best Hotel in Taos!"
We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable, pleasurable stay. Hotel Don Fernando gave us one of our best stays in Taos, and we have tried several other hotels in the past. Everything was clean and maintained, quality finishes in the room, well-stocked, etc. And the included free hot breakfast was delicious!! 5 Stars all the way!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good start for new manangement"
We found the hotel to be comfortable and the staff and management to be very friendly.Genuine Expedia guest review
Pros: Breakfast selection consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage, bagels and jam assortment, cream cheese, three selections of cereals, milk juice, and coffee, but no tea. No bed bugs. Movie theater next door. Restaurants within walking distance. Walmart across the street. Cons: The room was dirty. Dirty bedspread. I was there for three nights and they […] never cleaned. The room and facilities were run down and in ill repair. The mini-fridge was broken--stayed at room temperature and constantly made electrical popping and crackling noises until I unplugged it fearing it would start a fire. I reported it to the front desk, but they made no attempt to fix or replace it. Filthy carpet was stained and had unknown substances stuck to it. Dirty bathroom. The toilet rocked when I sat on it. Dim lighting and some lamps had burned out bulbs. Insufficient electrical sockets. I had to unplug some lamps in order to charge my mobile units. Slow internet. Throughput was so slow I couldn't watch any video on my iPad. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We really enjoyed our stay. The breakfast wasn't all that great, but it was free. They have the space for an entire restaurant and full bar, I am not really sure why they don't have those. The room needed some maintenance and updating, but nothing that was horrible. The staff was super friendly and the swimming pool looked awesome (we didn't bring swimming […] suits so we didn't try it out). For the price, I definitely recommend this hotel in Taos. "Clean Quiet Hotel"
The rooms were clean, hotel was quiet. The rear area where our room was, very dark, not enough lighting but otherwise nice stayGenuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable, clean stay"
The built-in heater was not working, but room already supplied an individual unit, which worked just fine on a fall snow day. Place was great, with 2 areas of concern. 1) not enough outlets for charging-- could not find any free ones other than in the bathroom. 2) breakfast was meh. But otherwise, enjoyed the stay very much, esp. for the value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel was better then any of the other places we have stayed at. The staff was very polite the room was clean. Housekeeping cleaned and supplied with clean towels every morning. I will be a returning customer when I visit Taos.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Much nicer than expected from some previous reviews. Clean facility, friendly staff, comfortable bed, decent hot breakfast. Lots of open space between buildings, did not look or feel like a typical motel.Genuine Expedia guest review

Pleasant stay, will definitely choose this hotel over any of the "big box" hotels. Definitely got our money's worth.Genuine Expedia guest review
Basic room. Fine for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is an older motel that has great bones! The room was clean, staff very helpful and the free breakfast was plentiful. The location of the Don Fernando makes it easy to explore the Taos area. Yes, it is dated and needs a little updating, but for the price it exceeds any expectations that I had. You can see that it was a lovely resort in its time […] . Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Drool pillows and broke hot tub."
The room was just ok, the pillows were flat and had drool marks all over. The couch also had holes and stains. We chose the hotel because it was supposed to have a hot tub but it was broken and the in door pool was freezing. The breakfast was also a bit sad.Genuine Expedia guest review
Was disappointed by the condition of the room because the couch had a lot of dog hair on it and a lot of peeling wallpaper. My room was adjacent to the laundry room which was noisy. Didn't bother to ask for a switch because it was so cheap. The staff was nice & the breakfast was good. the Internet was slow. The hotel was too far to walk to town. Overall, […] I'd rather stay closer to town. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We found the setting to be peaceful and roomy. We felt like we were in a condo with tree-filled, grassy lawn spaces instead of the typical hotel with all asphalt surfaces.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Cute and clean! Super friendly staff!"
I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I got a very inexpensive midweek rate through Expedia. (VERY inexpensive.) I was expecting bargain-basement, no-frills stuff. But It was cleaner and nicer than places I've stayed at which were 3x the price or more. Every staff member I ran across was extra-friendly and helpful, from the guy who checked me in […] to the groundskeeper to the lady who checked me out, and also the manager. The room was spacious, the bed was comfy, and there was a fridge in the room. I was expecting Motel 6/Days Inn type of atmosphere and condition, and it was definitely way nicer than that. I'd definitely stay there again! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Did the job"
We were looking for a convenient but less expensive hotel close to the Taos golf course. The room was alright, nothing great, worn but clean. They also provided breakfast (cereal, sweet rolls, scrambled eggs and sausage, and bagels). It met our needs. The bonuses were that it was walking distance from a great coffee shop (Taos Java) and Wal-Mart, which […] we ended up needing desperately, and there were several restaurants close by. It cost us 20% less than other nearby hotels. For this type of trip... it met our needs just fine. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A good place to stay in Taos."
It was the right location at the right price. It has a nice room for the continental breakfast too. There are a few signs of wear and tear over the years (like a hole in the comforter on my bed and weeds growing in the tennis court), but my room had everything I needed and I was grateful for the reasonable rate in a tourist town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Went for the weekend and it was everything we had hoped for!Genuine Expedia guest review
"A total dive."
The room was dirty --- a hunk of black hair in the tub, the floors had not been vacuumed, the curtains were threadbare and so we're never really "closed", stains on the carpet, marks on the walls..........I only paid ~$50 for this one night stay, and am glad I didn't pay more. It was a last minute booking due to travel plan changes, and was the only […] thing available under $200 a night in Taos. For the money, this hotel is of the better deals in Taos. Although old, the rooms are clean and relatively large. I'll definitely stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"good value for price."
Nothing special but was fairly cheap so no complaints. The facility is aging but is clean. Breakfast is decent and in a nice room. Unusual set up in that rooms are in clusters called "pueblos" of about 20 rooms each.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Charming Adobe Style Hotel in Taos"
This hotel has lots of atmosphere and gives travelers a unique southwestern experience. The hotel is set up with individual buildings with several rooms in each. Our room was quite large by today's standard and although dated, gave it an air of authenticity. The only downside was that our room was very dark with the curtains closed, even with lamps […] on. A sheer drape would be a nice addition. The staff was friendly and breakfast choices were ample. The grounds were well kept and inviting. A nice change from most hotel/motels. I've been staying at this hotel on family vacations for going on 20 years. I LOVE this hotel. It's comfortable, clean and quiet. The rooms are always well maintained, although I did notice that it's showing its age a little more on this trip. The location is pretty great. "The hotel is older and needs a good cleaning"
The hotel is older but it is a beautiful property. The new renovation will help greatly. Great rate. Standard hotel complimentary breakfast.Genuine Expedia guest review
The water in the bathroom was off when we arrived, but the Front Desk said a pipe had malfunctioned in another unit and the water would be back on soon, It was, it about 10 minutes. No problem.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Cheap and comfy"
The price was right- I've stayed at the Don Fernando a few times and have no real complaints. For the price, it doesn't get much better. They have a hot breakfast, an indoor pool, and a billiards table. We had a great time in Taos, and we will always stay at the Don Fernando so we'll have more money to spend having fun!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice place at good price"
Clean room. Good breakfast. Quiet. Very good price. The place is older and a little rundown but really not bad. I had a minor problem with the sink faucet and called it in to the front desk then went out for the day. To my pleasant surprise the problem was fixed by the time I got back.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel in Taos style"
Very nice lobby, better than usual serve yourself breakfast. Wi-Fi in room but signal is weak. Nice staggering of rooms so not entire wall is shared. Good parking especially for bigger vehicles. Staff is OK, not all are super friendly. Overall a very good experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
