Hilton San Francisco Downtown/Financial District Financial District - Ferry Building

A short guide to Financial District - Ferry Building

The bulls and bears of industry tread the streets of the Financial District, home to the city’s tallest buildings, including the iconic Transmerica Pyramid. The towers give way to The Embarcadero, the broad, palm-lined avenue that begins at the San Francisco Giant’s AT&T Park and ends at Fisherman’s Wharf. The road passes by the Ferry Building, a landmark transformed into an artisanal food market.

Reviewed by R of Sydney on Dec 26, 2007

Quality of service is not very good at all. The front desk is always busy and never picks up the phone or never bother to even look and ask whether we want anything or not. We are not sure whether our accommodation included breakfast or not. There is no proper explanation of this by the front desk. Thehouse keeping are all over the place and keep knocking the door or opening the door with their master key even though we are there and even though the checkout time is 12.00 noon. All in all, I will be happy to go to a smaller hotel and be treated like a customer rather than wait in long queues for getting a serve, that too after paying a fortune for the stay. Not at all impressed...

The hotel staff was very helpful. The rooms were nice but the bathrooms would smell of cigarette smoke in the non-smoking room. The first night we had to be moved at 1:00 a.m. when we came back from being out on the town because the entire room smelled like cigarettes.

The hotel itself is great for the price you pay, the service and room condition is great. The neighborhood is not great, it's dirty and crowded, no way to get anyting out of the surrounding restaurants and businesses. The parking is conveniently located across the street but you have to pay everytime you get in and out, makes it an expensive parking fee overall, it would be a good idea if hotel guests can just pay a flat rate per day instead, the cost of the parking makes up for the relatively lower hotel rate.

On check-in, I was given a non-king room (I had reserved a King bed). The whole floor smelled like stale smoke, even though it was "non-smoking", the toilet had been used (and not flushed), there were no amenities, except for the already used soap on the sink. One of the towels had already been used, and there was something resembling a large hot-chocolate stain on the window shade. The bed even looked like someone had slept on it (without sleeping in it). When I lifted up the phone to call management, the phone didn't work. I got the worst room in the building, I'm sure of it. With that said, once i told management about the condition of my room on check-in, they were very responsive. I had a much nicer room the next day, with a great view and they gave me free breakfast for the remainder of my stay to make up for my the inconvenience. The rate for the hotel was good, but the parking is a bit expensive ($40/night). The location was good, close to China Town and North Beach.

I was amazed with the price I got for this hotel on a holiday. As expected, the service was outstanding. Close proximity to the financial district and China town provided excellent opportunity for visiting various interesting sites by foot without even taking the car out of garage. Before booking the hotel I learned that the hotel parking costs around $47 a day. I parked a block away and paid only $24 for each 24 hours.

The hotel was nice for the price I paid. The room was comfortable and the bed was especially comfortable. It wasn't so much a romantic type hotel, no spa or pool, very small bathtub with a stopper that didn't work, and a pretty terrible veiw out of the window so if you, like most of the occupants, are on business or on a flight lay-over it is a nice, pleasant, quick stay. It's within walking distance of North Beach and Chinatown. If you are trying to have a romantic weekend, I would probably choose something nicer in a different area.

The hotel was in a great location for transportation to the tourist areas. It is in financial district and within walking distance to the brewery and some warm and cute restaurants. You can take the bus anywhere from just behind the hotel. I do not like to stay in the "hustle" of it all, so this was perfect. The hill is a very steep 2 blocks to China Town and the trolley, but not too bad.

It could have been bad luck on their part but I didn't have a good experience here. When I checked in around 8 they told me that they didn't have any rooms because a bunch of guests had been granted late checkouts. They told me they could either give me a smoking room in an hour or a non-smoking room in 3 hours. The manager told me she would call when the room was ready, but she never did. So I ended up in a smoking room despite waiting the 3 hours. Maybe this is unavoidable if you run such a huge hotel, but I feel that a reservation means that you should get a room if you check in at a reasonable time. The manager offered me some free drinks and breakfasts but couldn't adjust the rate.

First of all, they will charge you $30.00 for parking when you stay at their hotel. If you drink their bottled water in the room ,you will be charged. If you want to watch TV, they will charge you for it, that means just the news!!! Movies are $14.99.... You can hear everything next door... When making your reservations, if you want the city view??? ha its a joke its nothing more then roof tops of old ugly buildings..... It was the worse place we ever stayed at...Sleep in your car.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear your trip was unpleasant. Size of bed requested at booking was not what I got when I checked in. Bathroom malfunctioned during my stay and had to be switched to a dffferent room, which vase very inconveinent for me. Bathroom shower heads are not high enough. You have to pretty much bend down to get your head wet during a shower. It's just high enough for someone who is 4 feet tall! No hot water for one of the days I was there.

my daughter and I had a fabulous time. We live about an hour away but circled the city streets for about an additional hour, SF can be confusing, one way streets and all, luckily my daughter has a cool head. The comfort of the beds, we each had a full/queen to ourselves, was wonderful. I have now purchased hotel style linens to duplicate the feeling of sleeping on a cloud. Worth the price for last minute accomodations.

I’m very sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay. Should you decide to return, I suggest booking a Junior or Presidential suite for more space. Also, please consider our self-parking option for $30 overnight, which is very competitive for city rates. We hope to see you again in the near future.

We had a room on the top floor and the view from our room was gorgeous! Coit tower, the bay,the city, all right in front of you. I could not be sure if every room on every floor has such a spectacular view, so I suggest taking a room on a higher floor. The room itself was not too special. It's clean enough, but nothing unique. But as I said, you can't beat the view. The hotel parking is not cheep. About $20 for self parking and about $35 for valet parking. I did not use the hotel parking so I don't remember the exact price for the parking. Although the hotel claimed to be 100 percent smoke free environment we could smell some smoke odor everywhere at the hotel, even inside our room. But anyway we were happy to stay here because of the view. WiFi did not work inside our room, despite they offer the service.

When we arrived the staff was friendly, but when we got to our room it had an obvious smoke smell. The hallway to the room was even worse, but the room and the bathroom and a definite smoke odor. We called the fron desk to change rooms and they told us that they did not have any more rooms for the price we had paid. We would have to upgrade to change rooms. When we argued they said that the hotel was overbooked and they couldn't change our room. However, our friends arrived later that day, without a reservation, and miraculously, the hotel had an available room for them. Nicer than ours, at the same price.
