I pre-paid this stay through Expedia. I returned home to find $600 in charges to my credit card which was used to charge the overnight parking fee (apparently they charged other people's rooms to the card i left as well as a bar charge). I will say that this is a nice hotel, structurally, room wise, and location. The staff on the other hand is horrible and I think they need a hotel rescue to realize WHY they are there. Because of customers, pure and simple, the only reason you even have jobs there. Upon check-in, walked to the counter. 2 people there. In discussion between the 2 of […] them. No acknowledgement that I was standing there. 1 minute after standing there, acknowledgement, "will be right with you". Once they were right with me, no welcome to the hotel, only "checking in, and name". Handed the room cards, no direction to the elevator. Seriously? Checked into the room, within less than 5 minutes a maintenance guy knocks on the door and then walks in. Seriously? I had a short conversation that went something like, hey we just checked in, now you are coming in? We'd like some privacy. Luckily after this no interaction with the staff. But here's the thing, after leaving the hotel we realized we had paid for breakfast for our one night stay. Yes, I should have remembered this, but shouldn't they have advised me of where the resturant was when I checked in? If they would have given me any details about the place it would have been nice. Like where the elevator is.... I found out they have a pool from a guy in the elevator. He stumbled across it. :) So if you don't like people, and wish to have no interaction and just fork over payment for a nice room and good location, this is the place for you. The staff were excellent the location was great the room was not so great, the bathroom was so small it was smaller than the a normal childs bathroom. Then I called for additional towels and was told I had to wait for housekeeping to come in. "Bit tired and below expectations"
Booked a king room through Expedia, and arrived a little after midnight. Greeted by an empty reception desk and a night porter checking his Facebook on one of the computers over in the corner of the lobby. After 10 minutes someone finally came to greet, although describing him as surly would be understating. Finally got to room, bed was a double at […] best, certainly not a king. TV remote did not work, and the bathroom had the flimsiest shower over bath complete with my pet hate ... A shower curtain. Overall room was very tired given the $400+ for the night we paid. Left card out for breakfast, which never arrived so had to chase up. Food on the upside was good, although no butter for the toast. I did enjoy the hotel. The valet service went above and beyond. I have stayed a the Fairmont and the valet at this hotel is much more accommodating. The girl at the front dest told us that we could have gotten a room on a higher floor had we booked directly through the hotel. However, I did not find the freeway noise to be bothersome. "Decent hotel, but a little expensive"
Pros: Nice, clean, modern and spacious rooms (we stayed in room 408) Large, comfortable beds Decent view GREAT location (across the street from the pier and a very short walk to 3rd St promenade) Service was hit or miss. Chance (supervisor at the front desk) was absolutely amazing. He was very flexible and accommodating, and definitely understands […] what customer service is. However, while in the room, I called to inquire about whether or not the bottled water for the coffee was complimentary, but no one answered. I called a couple more times and nothing. I then called from my cell phone and someone (other than Chance) finally answered. I was told he would look into it and call me back, but never received a call back. Cons: Expensive for what you get (but then again, it's Santa Monica and literally across the street from the pier and short walk to 3rd st) Exterior and some parts of the hotel interior were a little outdated/rundown (looks like a renovated holiday inn) The pool... You have to walk through the garage to get to it, only to realize it's adjacent to the street. It also looks rundown and a bit unnerving in my opinion. It was enough of a deterrent for us to quickly decide not to swim in it. The (electronic) room card (key) was very inconsistent and didn't always work, so we had to try inserting/removing it at least a few times before it did. Parking: $36/night (we parked at the structure across the street for $14/night) Bottom line: If you can get a room for a bargain (I'd say less than $200/weekend night), and you're able to overlook some minor inconveniences because they're outweighed by the location, I'd say go for it. I booked this hotel with almost a week ahead of time. Since it was around spring break, there weren't a lot of options. I was afraid of going cheap and not being around the beach, so I decided to book the Wyndam. It had high reviews, was cheaper than most of the comparative hotels listed on Expedia and was right on the pier. First, the hotel's location […] is amazing. Its literally on the pier. So if you're planning to hit the beach, walk down to Venice, hit the 3rd street Promenade and at the same time be near some cheaper food options (Subway, McD), then this is perfect. The staff was super friendly, and was helpful in providing a few recommendations. I was looking for a place to do some work outside before I hit the beach, and the hotel is located right near a park. It was the front desk's recommendation and was great. The hotel though, as per my cabbie, was a former Holiday Inn. I could tell. The elevator and hallways were stale looking, and I feared what my hotel room was going to look like. Also, the lobby area is small and tends to populate with tourists, so it felt a bit cramped and pedestrian. Not a big deal, but was apparent. That being said, the room was great. This hotel is a fantastic location - a few steps to the beach and pier, as well as many great restaurants and shopping, including the 3rd Street Promenade. Although the exterior of this hotel is unimpressive, the interior is quite nice - fully updated, well maintained and very clean. The employees were all very friendly and valet service (although expensive, […] but the only on-site parking available) was prompt and efficient. A couple of minor concerns to an otherwise pleasant stay... One is that both of our parties had chosen special additions when we booked our rooms (one had free breakfasts and the other had $20 food/beverage credit), neither was noted on our reservations and we both had to provide documentation to prove our benefit - so be sure to print your confirmation and bring it with you if you have a special perk. Second is that the hot portions breakfast are pretty marginal for the price - convenient, but unimpressive. "Location is the only thing this place offers"
This is a two star hotel, at best. Entrance. The entrance for your car has barely enough room for one car coming in and one car going out. Lobby. The lobby is small, old, and maybe was last updated in 1996. Honestly, I've seen the same lobby in a Days Inn in Flagstaff. This is two stars all the way. Elevators are old and slow and outdated. Hallways […] all look old, dingy. Room. The bathroom is small, but it looks like it was recently updated and was pretty nice as a result. But the room, wow, what a ridiculous offering for three-and-a-half bills a night. The room smelled. The thermostat did not work so it was too cold or too hot the entire stay. The TV is small. The bed is not bad, but the rest of the furnishings are old and basic and did not look so clean. Overall the room is not spacious by any means. The right size for a two star price, but silly for what this place goes for. Restaurant. We ate breakfast the next morning. It was disgusting. Seriously, it was disgusting. A Denny's or an iHOP would have served a better breakfast. We did not attempt to eat at the hotel again. We did not risk room service. "NOT worth the price"
We came to LA last minute to escape Chicago's terrible weather. I wanted to spend a little extra to get a nice place. There were other hotels around the area that had rooms available, but we chose this one in particular because we wanted to treat ourselves. Upon relaxing in our room, we experienced a fire alarm. Once we evacuated, staff was not communicative of what happened. We waited around until they decided to inform us. Can't fault the hotel or location but the next few comments should be passed on to the city of Santa Monica You will scare tourists away by allowing the homeless to wander aimlessly and give tourists so much hassle. I'm a local but stayed over as I had a business meeting and dinner in Santa Monica and I am very aware of Santa Monica's homeless reputation. The negative reviews are not giving this hotel a fair shake. It is a high 3 low 4 star hotel that is affordable, clean and comfortable in pricey Santa Monica. Give it a try I think its great for a short stay close to the action.Genuine Expedia guest review

The Wyndham Santa Monica at the Pier is a no-frills hotel that offers clean rooms at a fair rate and in a great location. I've stayed at nicer hotels, but if you're looking for a hotel within walking distance of the beach and other Santa Monica attractions then this one is hard to beat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
