The rooms in this hotel are clubby, which is not good for people who are larger, disabled, or accident prone. The staff overall is friendly, except that some of the valet staff, which seems odd since you have to pay $30 a night for their service. They gouge you for eveyrthing, including internet access. The bathroom cleaning was less than meticulous.. On a positive note, the lobby is beautiful and the hotel is artistic. It is located in a nice area, next to Harrah's. The W is the only hotel I have seen that does not have coffee in the room, though they do have it in the lobby. Overall, pretty but not very practical. I would not choose this hotel if I returned to New Orleans.

Reviewed by April of Dallas, TX on Dec 23, 2009
I'll start with a positive. The hotel was in a great location. Directly across the street from Harrah's & the Riverwalk & within walking distance of the Quarter & the Superdome. I was really looking forward to this stay as it was my first time to stay at a W (I've stayed in a lot of other nice hotels but never a W). Maybe my expectations were too high. 1) the safe in the room did not work 2) the walls are PAPER thin. The people next door were talking in the middle of the night & we could hear every word. They may as well have been standing in our room talking! 3) the windows must also be made of paper. The road noise/street noise/people noise going on outside kept us awake (and we were on the 16th floor!!). I can't remember ever staying in a hotel this loud. 4) no shower caps in the room (I know this is minor, but it was disappointing!). There was also only one robe in the room (double beds, should be 2 robes in my opinion). 5) on the second day of our stay when the maid came to clean the room, she took all of our soiled bath towels but did not leave us any clean ones! We came back from a long day & wanted to take a shower & had no towels. 6) upon coming back to our room late at night, our keys didn't work (neither one of them!) so we had to go back to the front desk to get our keys redone. The icing on the cake was when we let the front desk know about these issues, there was no apology! None at all! No apology when we had to get our keys redone....no apology that our safe did not work....no apology that we had no towel. Really?? At a W?? Like I said, maybe I expected too much but I will never stay at this hotel again. The rate was very good and now I know why. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Pool was under reconstruction during my visit, which cuased a long detour to fitness center. No gift/snack shop in lobby like other hotels. This may not be an issue for many people but I like to be able to buy a bottom of soda and bag of chips without paying in-room prices. Overall, positive experience.

We got to this hotel at around 12:30am after a long 14 hour drive from Virginia. We were very impressed with the look of the hotel. Once we got to our room we wanted to take a shower and got in to get our hair wet, only to have the water run out a minute later. Cold, freezing and tired with dripping wet hair was not fun. We called the concierge only to find out the water was shut down on the whole block.. sure wish we were told that when we got there. After that we lifted the sheets only to find they were dirty and stained. We called down again to get our room changed. The sheets in the new room also had a stain but we figured it was the laundry and just settled with that one. Overall it was a nice hotel, but we would not recommend it to friends.

My husband and I always stay at W hotels when we travel and they are available. We were ecstatic to see the price at such a low rate, however, after getting there and needing to change rooms several times because the first smelled like smoke (we requested nonsmoking) and the second hadn't been serviced (dirty floor, garbage, no toiletries or mini bar) we realized that we had been had. Once we finally got to our room the front desk gave us a certificate for $40 that had to be used for room service that night. It was 10 pm - and we didn't have a menu or room service guide in our room - we requested one and had to wait 45 minutes for the menu and by then, the "good" kitchen was closed, and we were so worn out by the ordeal that we didn't go out that night and missed an evening in New Orleans. We usually love the W - but this one had a lot of problems. They gave us a 50% off coupon for the first "round" of drinks at the bar - yet after we ordered told us that the "round" was really only for one drink. There were clearly communication problems between the staff and the front desk - since it took forever to get anything other than room service delivered to the room and they called repeatedly to see if the coffee set up/menu/pillows had been delivered, which they usually hadn't within 20-30 minutes. The hotel itself is beautiful and our room was very comfortable. There are just some major service problems that hopefully get worked out. Next time we come to New Orleans (in April) we will stay at the W in the French Quarter -

We checked in with no problems and got to our room easily. I was surprised that the room was so small, but the comfort more than made up for it. I've never slept in such a comfortable bed before. The comforter on the bed did have a small stain on it, but other than that, the room was very clean. The bathroom was tiny which made it very hot when you had to blow dry your hair after taking a hot shower. I look forward to staying here again and recommend it to anyone who enjoys the modern style with home comforts.

The breakfast in the W's restaurant was good, pricing was about you would expect for higher end hotel food - again the decor was very worn. We spend the weekend there with our twins, (18+ years old) and the W seems to target a much younger crowd - very contempary if run down decor.
