"Delightful location, Helpful staff"
I stayed at the Royal Sonesta to be downtown to hear a concert at the Modell Performing Arts Center. My stay was delightful. I had a relaxed and tasty dinner in the restaurant before leaving for the show. The room was comfortable. and remarkably quiet. The view of the harbor from my window was special, both in the daylight, and when I returned to the room at night and saw the harbor and city lights. I had to leave unexpectedly early the next morning, and the staff was helpful in expediting my departure. I will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Jeannette, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback from your recent stay! As mentioned, all 203 guestrooms and suites are newly renovated, with brand-new furniture and bedding, plus new carpeting, wall coverings, window treatments, artwork, lighting, and some bathroom upgrades. Our parking costs are $26 per night for self parking and $46 per night for valet parking, which are comparable costs to all Inner Harbor hotels. We hope you will stay with us again soon!

The hotel itself is very beautiful. The front desk workers and those in the lobby were friendly and doing the best they could. However, check in was hectic. There were many events occurring at the hotel, which is understandable. What is not is the fact that I could not get into my room for almost two hours past check in time. The hotel offered no explanation.

Response by Royal Sonesta Harbor Court Baltimore
Thank you for staying with us, and for complimenting the Front Desk team for their efforts during a very hectic weekend. We faced some operational concerns this past weekend, April 10-12, as we faced our first sellout weekend since our renovations began in early December. While all 203 of our guestrooms and suites are now fully renovated, the renovation team spent last week working on "punch list" items and because of this the guestrooms were turned over slowly to the hotel team this past Saturday, causing the delayed check-in process. We apologize that these delays impacted your stay, and we hope you plan to return so that we can showcase the high level of service that has long been our hallmark.

"Bad Experience.... would NOT go back!!"
The location of the hotel is ideal and is a few blocks away from the Inner Harbor with lots of restaurants and shops. Unfortunately that is the only good part of the hotel. It took us over an hour to check-in to the hotel. The hotel staff did not apologize for the long wait or acknowledge the fact that they had a lobby filled with frustrated guests waiting to check-in. The guest checking-in next to me had an issue with their reservation (wasn’t in the system), so no one paid attention to me. I asked about a late check-out to compensate for the wait, and the staff member simply replied with “hmm call down in the morning and ask”. When we finally made it to our room, we found hair over the bathroom sink, shower, and toilet. It did not appear to be cleaned very well. We asked the front desk to call for a taxi for dinner for us, and when we got to the lobby they said wait outside for the taxi. Well what do you think we did….. wait! The taxi cab never showed up, so after 20 minutes (after they should have been there) we took matters into our own hands and called for an UBER. When I checked-out the next day, I told the front desk about my experience and all I got was “sorry”. For the amount of money I paid for my hotel room, I was EXREMELY disappointed in the staff and hotel all together. I would NOT recommend going to this hotel, unless you want to overpay for a poor experience. Very disappointing….

We certainly apologize for the poor experience that you had staying with us this past weekend. As you are undoubedtly aware, we are at the very end of a months-long $10 million renovation. This past weekend represented our first sellout weekend since prior to the renovation kickoff, and as you experienced, we faced delays in gettings rooms back into service. All guestrooms and suites have been fully renovated, but our renovaions team spent the first third of April completing "punch list" items on the guestrooms and suites. As these items were being completed over the weekend, the guestrooms were released back to us, most of them late in the afternoon on Saturday. We obviously did not anticipate these delays, and we certainly should have done a better job communicating the cause of the delays. The ladies and gentlemen at the Front Desk did their best to make the most of a tough situation that was certainly not their fault, and again, we apologize for the impact this had on your stay. We certainly hope you plan to return so that you have the opportunity to experience our hotel without the renovation taking place.

"Great location, comfortable hotel."
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. All of the staff was very friendly. The room was quite large and comfortable. The pool area is very nice, and the salt water pool is so much better to have in place of the usual, chlorine laden hotel pools. Location is great for all the Inner Harbor activities. The only one thing that was a negative for me were the toiletries, with a very heavy coconut smell (body wash, shampoo, etc.) I would stay at this property again (just would bring my own shampoo).

"Well above the average"
This was a family trip, staying on a weekend in late February. That may have contributed to the lack of atmosphere. The place seemed a bit empty. Given that it is right on the Harbor, I can't imagine this is going to be a problem in the summer. One room had been recently renovated and was well above the average in every way. The other was OK but it was clear why they had started renovating. We had a problem on check in - not the hotels fault - they sorted it out very quickly and professionally. Not only would I go there again, I am already booked to do so.

"Great hotel...or at least it will be soon"
Overall a great stay. Hotel construction made things a little less than desirable (loud hammering which disrupted napping Saturday late morning to early afternoon, some dust, chilly pool water) which threw a wrench into some of our plans, but nothing that came close to ruining our weekend (construction scheduled to end by March 31). They were also very kind to send up a piece of complimentary birthday cake for our son's birthday and that meant a lot to us, and a nice crib was already in the room when we checked in. Room service food was great as was the service.

"Bring your hardhat!"
This hotel is under construction and they make no effort reduce the impact on their customers. You will encounter carpet nails in the hallway and lobby and exposed wires, dirt, dust on floor two. Access to the parking deck requires traveling on two elevators following broken and incorrect signage, (some of the access doors are closed off) and a walk outside. The furniture in the lobby is filthy...seems like the attitude is "well we're under construction so anything goes". The room itself was clean and spacious. Furniture was beat up,broken and sparse. Bathroom is large , clean but shower was light on water.

Thank you for staying with us recently. On behalf of our team, we apologize that our ongoing, $10 million renovation disrupted your stay to such a large extent. Your review does not state your stay dates, but we are pleased to let you know that as of March 1, all guests are enjoying our brand-new guestrooms, which feature new wall coverings, carpet, window treatment, beds, furniture, artwork, televisions, and many changes to the guestroom bathrooms. Additionally, in the past few days, we've removed the pipe and drapes from our lobby, unveiling new furniture and a new look. We continue to renovate 2 more guestroom floors, as well as our public space, and the entirety of the renovation will be completed by the end of March. As for parking, we are working with the garage operator to implement improvements to the signage. Many guests prefer to valet park at our entrance, as opposed to using the private garage adjacent to the hotel. We hope you will consider returning to the hotel this spring to experience our new look and new vibe so that you can experience the service that has been the hallmark of the Royal Sonesta Harbor Court for more than two decades.

"Nice hotel BUT....."
The hotel is in a good enough location and you are pretty much on the harbor. But the hotel is undergoing renovations that are impacting the customers. The first night we checked in the water was out from 10pm-3am. The second day the electricity was out for about four hours....in the morning, when we were trying to get ready to go out! Although I didn't ask for a discount or anything due to those inconveniences, I would have expected the management to provide some sort of credit to the bill but nada! The noise from the drilling was continuous throughout the stay. I think the hotel would do themselves a favor if they put this information in their quotes or whatever on Expedia. It could save their future ratings. There is a sign on the front desk when you check in about the renovations.

Thank you for your candid feedback. On behalf of our entire team, we apologize for the inconvenience experienced during our ongoing, $10 million renovation. The power outage occurred on a Friday morningseveral weeks ago, and lasted 54 minutes--and it was a grid outage for the Inner Harbor area, not anything caused or related to the hotel renovation. Still, we recognize that this coupled with the water shutoff that day and the noise from the renovation led to a subpar guest experience. As of March 1, all guests will enjoy our brand-new guestrooms, and we are happy to announce that the entire scope of the renovation will be completed before the end of March. "Close to Harbor and Convention Center"
Though undergoing some renovation, the Royal Sonesta was a nice hotel. The room I was in was spacious, clean and well equipped. My only complaint is the same with most hotels... stop using artificially fragranced products in your hotels. Though I was traveling by myself, it is often an issue traveling, as my wife is allergic to chemical fragrances and cleaning products. There are lots of "green" products available now for laundry, cleaning products and soaps used in hotels, and it's my opinion that we need to reduce our exposure to these chemicals. Other than that it was a very pleasant stay. Room service was good and the staff was very helpful. Beware though, the parking fees are quite steep, but that is the case for most of Baltimore.

Tom, we appreciate the five-star review as well as your suggestions. We do have two major green initiatives, the main one being the "green" dispensers in our guestroom showers for the Poggesi shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. pros: The room is clean. I like the espresso shop for grab-and-go breakfast. The bar is OK. Also like the swimming pool with hot tub on the side. cons: It was undergoing major renovation during our stay (Feb 7-11), so there is no lobby area to sit/rest basically. Also it was very noise upstairs during the morning of our last day (drilling and hammering sounds...). The mattress is too soft for me. "Very disappointing hotel"
This is the first time I have taken the time to review a hotel in all my 20 years of business travel. This by far was the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel on your site. They were renovating the hotel upon check in. They told me that some rooms may have an interruption in water so I specifically asked to not be in one of the affected rooms. Sure enough as I am getting ready for a very important business meeting the next morning, no water in the room, sink, shower etc. When I called to complain they told me that all rooms were affected and then when I asked for the manager she said I could go to their workout room and take a shower. Bottom line, this hotel is very dated and not in a good way. They are renovating the lobby but they need to focus on the 1970's style rooms with stains and holes in the carpets and musty furniture and yellowed lamp shades.

I travel the world on business and know what top notch properties look like. This hotel is among the top 10% I have stayed in. The room was beautiful, very clean, and freshly decorated. The staff exceptional in all phases of service: check in, valet, room service, room cleaning, etc. When I return, I will stay here again. They are going through a renovation of the lobby which will be done in March of 2015. However, the hotel staff made it a non-issue.

"Very convenient for my needs"
I was attending a conference at the convention center which is an easy walk and can be done primarily on the pedestrian bridge. The hotel is right across from the inner harbor shopping and dining areas. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant was very pricey for the quality of the food, so I only ate breakfast there once. The bellmen were so helpful! On my last day, I checked out before my conference was over and wanted to get lunch before heading to the airport. They kept my bags safe and even arranged for a car to be waiting when I returned to take me to the airport. I must have missed the part when booking on Expedia that let me know the hotel was under extreme construction. It didn't effect my stay, but made it a bit inconvenient when they only had one elevator working one day and no way to access the stairs. However, it was still a very pleasant experience. If I return to the same convention next year, I will definitely return to this hotel.

Renee, thank you for staying with us recently for your convention, and thank you for the warm comments. We are about 3 blocks from the Convention Center, and our $10 million dollar renovation will be completed by the end of March, so by next year's convention we will have a beautiful new look and new style to our guestrooms, lobby, meeting and public space. We hope to host you again for next year's conference, or sooner for an Inner Harbor adventure!

Michael, thank you for the great feedback about your recent stay! Our outstanding team is working hard to keep the hotel clean and well-maintained during our $10 million renovation, and we will share your comments with our staff to reinforce the great job they are doing. Our indoor saltwater pool is open daily from 5:00 am through 10:00 pm, and offers a dedicated lap lane for those who wish to swim laps. We look forward to your return once our renovation is completed at the end of March. Our new guestrooms, lobby, and public space are amazing and we can't wait to show off our new look!

"O.K AT BEST"
Hotel lobby area is being renovated, which is too bad. It had a beautiful entrance and stairway, and from illustrations it looks like they are going to ruin it. elevator wasn't working, so we took the stairs and ended up wandering through an employee-only service area in order to find the temporary "front desk." Room was OK, but when looking for an item I dropped behind the bed I was surprised at how long it must have been since they cleaned back there.

We apologize for the issues encountered at check-in, and we are pleased to inform you and future guests that our lobby and Front Desk are expected to re-open by Monday, February 2. We hope you will come back in April when our $10 million renovation is complete so you can experience our new guestrooms, new lobby, and new public space. Royal Sonesta was a beautiful hotel but we couldn't get the full effect since they were under construction. I wish I would have been warned prior to staying. Rooms were beautiful and I loved how close we were to the Inner Harbor.

"Nice Hotel"
I wish I had known the hotel was under construction. Lobby was closed, front desk was a makeshift set-up on second floor. When it is finished, I am sure it will be fine, but it was kind of a surprise when I checked in after a long flight. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Staff is helpful and pleasant. Hotel restaurant is nice, but pricey. Location is great, right on the Inner Harbor.

"Perfect View of Baltimore's Inner Harbor"
I've stayed at the Royal Sonesta Baltimore on 3 or 4 occasions and particularly like getting a harbor view room: any time of the day or night, the view of Baltimore's Inner Harbor is enchanting. The hotel is currently undergoing a major renovation; the room I stayed in was not yet renovated but I expect when that is finished the hotel will be even nicer to stay at. I had to request that a hair dryer be brought to my room (didn't notice until I was getting dressed early on a very cold morning) and the front desk said they would take care of that right away, but an hour later it still hadn't been delivered, although one was dropped off later in the day. The bellhop was helpful with storing my luggage for a few hours and in arranging for me to have their on-call driver take me to local places for about the same price as a taxi. I will very likely stay here again, because I love the harbor view, and it's a nice place with generally helpful staff.

We really appreciate your feedback, and we are glad that you have enjoyed terrific service during previous stays, though it's clear we missed the mark on your most recent stay by not having a hair dryer in your guestroom, and by responding too slowly to your request for one. The harborview rooms are spectacular, as each features a floor-to-ceiling bay window offer specactular views of both the Inner Harbor and the downtown skyline. Our $10 million renovation is on tagret for completion prior to April 1, and our new look will transform the look and feel of our property, particularly with the modern look to our new guestrooms. We look forward to hosting you again soon so that you can enjoy the amazing harbor views!

"Great location"
I have stayed at the Sonesta a number of times and always enjoy my stay. The location, right in the heart of the Harbor region is wonderfully convenient and I love playing racquetball in their racquetball court. Their pool, workout room are top notch. The hotel is undergoing some remodeling, which is not great while you're there but the cheaper price makes up for it. The rooms are large and comfortable but could use an armchair.

We had no running water for the entire day and was given no compensation. I would not recommend this hotel. The restaurant was over priced. The self parking was outrageously over priced. We arrived around 7 pm on a Monday and checked out by 11 am Wednesday and paid almost $50.

Joanne, we apologize that the water shutoff that was part of our ongoing $10 million renovation caused you significant inconvenience. We scheduled the water shutoff during daytime hours (when the vast majority of our guests are offsite working or exploring the Inner Harbor) during the city's slowest occupancy week of the year. These changes to our pipes and plumbing are necessary to provide the amazing new rainfall showerheads that our brand-new guestrooms will be equipped with. We are surprised at your comments about parking, as our parking prices are within the lower tier amongst Inner Harbor hotels. Being from nearby WIlmington, you are familiar with high parking costs in East Coast cities simply because of the scarcity of parking coupled with the high demand. As with most properties, our hotel neither owns nor operates the parking garage that is on our campus. The combined circumstances certainly left you feeling let down, and we want the chance to provide you with the service and the overall experience that Royal Sonesta Harbor Court Baltimore has been known for throughout the past 25+ years. We invite you to return this spring once our $10 million renovation has been completed to experience our new look.

"A Good Tourist Hotel"
First, the downside. The hotel is undergoing a significant renovation and it does interfere with the visitor experience. The check-in desk is about the size of a phone booth, and they have minimal computer capabilities (such as being able to tell if the rooms have been cleaned). However, once you get past this annoyance, I found the hotel very accommodating. The staff were all pleasant and willing to assist you. The room was comfortable and clean. The indoor pool, spa, and exercise area were fantastic. The hotel is within walking distance to everything in the inner harbor area. If they can get this renovation completed, it will be a first rate hotel.

Rick, thank you for your comments. We are one month into our renovation, and less than 90 days from completion. One of the benefits of being a smaller hotel (203 guestrooms) is that a $10 million dollar renovation can be completed fully within the offseason and in a very reasonable timeframe. Our temporary Front Desk will remain on the second floor of the hotel until late January, by which time our all-new lobby will be completed. Our brand-new guestrooms will begin to come online with the next few weeks as well! The same genuine, personalized service that has long been our hallmark will remain, and our location is ideal to both the Inner Harbor and the downtown business district. We can;t wait for you to return and experience our new look!

"Great potential....somewhat disappointing"
Hotel has tons of potential is located in a great place and has big rooms. However, i didn't see anything (when i booked) to indicate that the lobby was under renovation. The bellman was of little help in explaining that there was a temporary lobby on the second floor (which we had to find on our own) and the front "desk" (more of a table in a hallway) was not very accomodating in terms of storing our luggage since our room was not ready (we were there early).

"Noisey and more expensive !!!!"
We arrived at 3:30 am 12/28/14 and we get ready to check in nowhere online does it say its 100 more for a depoist. I was paying cash so this was a big issue because i didnt have alot of money. Then we find out that the hotel doesnt have free parking for paying customers. So then I had to pay another $48.00 to park my car. Maybe you should tell these things up front and then we couldnt sleep in because of all the construction noise at 8:00 am monday morning.

Jeffrey, thank you for sharing your comments. Our parking fees are indeed listed on Expedia, and just like with every major East Coast city, there is no free parking at downtown hotels. The hotel neither owns nor manages the parking area, so those fees are mandatory. A deposit is not required unless you choose to pay in cash. We apologize that noise from our renovation--which involves very little construction--resulted in your being awakened early. We anticipate that our renovation will be completed in mid-to-late March, and we invite you to come and experience our new look!

The hotel itself was just ok. We arrived and the facility was under construction, (that would have been helpful information)and Friday morning there was a notice under the door that read the water would be turned off for the day due to construction.(again helpful information) We checked out a day early because of these issues. They did however credit the parking.

Linda, thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent stay. The hotel is undergoing renovations; however, no construction is taking place. Early on in the project (the renovation kicked off in early December) we have had to do periodic water shut offs to replace valves, and we absolutely understand that a water shutoff can cause significant guest inconvenience, and we apologize. All work including water shutoffs takes place during normal business hours, when a majority of our guests are offsite at work or enjoying the attractions of the Inner Harbor. "Very disappointing experience"
Our Christmas visit was a total disappointment. This hotel has no business being open during its renovation, which was not disclosed prior to our arrival. We arrived Christmas Eve and our room had no water pressure. We could not shower that evening or on Christmas morning. Our children's room had a toilet that would not stop running. Later that day, we all had to switch rooms. The next morning, we received a notice that the water would be on and off all day. The room itself was comfortable but in shabby condition (hence the renovation, I assume). We felt quite duped by the whole experience. We will not return.

Hotel was under serious renovation when I arrived, two times during my stay I had no water for several hours. In addition there were some fairly loud construction projects going on in the hallways.
