"Great nite stay"
Easy access from route 295,very friendly and helpful staff. Was traveling with 2 puppies (2 month old and a 5 month old). Room very clean and refreshing. Was not able to go out to eat so had meals sent in from hotel restaurant. Excellent food and overall excellent stay. Would definitely stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel room was clean, but there was a little mildew on the ceiling over the tub. Room was equipped with a refrigerator and microwave, which helps make up for the lack of a complimentary breakfast. The hotel also saves money by offering a choice of two double beds or a single king, but not two queens. We were happy to have a single king, so that seemed […] like a good place to save. We had a comfortable stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A cut above"
The staff here could not be more friendly. This hotel exceeds in all rating categories.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We were visiting family in Portland for the holidays. It is a convenient location to everything! We have stayed here before. I do like it better than other hotels in this area of Portland. Off season, rates are reasonable. Everyone is very friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good base for a visit to Portland"
A good, inexpensive commercial hotel. Convenient to reach from I-295 but hard to find from Congress Street -- look for the hotel itself off the road on the south side, and turn at the Mobil station.Genuine Expedia guest review
The staff was great. The in-house restaurant was pretty awful. One waitress trying to handle all tables alone. The restaurant was cold and worse yet the food arrived and was instantly cold on a cold plate. The green beans were under cooked and so cold the butter would not melt on them.Genuine Expedia guest review
Comfortable room but a small bathroom.Right off of I-295 & about 10 minutes from Portland waterfront.Beds were comfortable & staff was efficient & friendly.Stayed here for 2 days & was quite happy.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was the first hotel I have stayed in that did not include a continental breakfast in the overnight price . If I had noticed this when booking I would have gone elsewhere. It was may sound petty, however my daughter and her children and I love going to breakfast at the hotels we stay in . The pool and jet tub were clean and enjoyed . Except for no […] breakfast ,everything else was fine. Thank you Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"you get what you pay for"
Not the best hotel, and not the worst. If you just need a place to sleep and plan to be out enjoying the city most of the time, this is a good alternative. You can be down in Old Port in 10 minutes so save the extra $100 for a room in Old Port and use it for food. Portland is a great food city!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I went to Portland several times staying at more expensive and I found this hotel to be as good or better than the others. Room was very nice with normal amenities (including refrigerator) and the lounge and restaurant very good. I will stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great customer service and close to downtown Portland. It's no frills but still adequate with amenities (gym, pool and free wifi). Room was spacious and clean. No complaints!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We arrived at hotel parking lot lighting was not good at all. Overall the lighting was very poor, which made my wife uncomfortable. She did report to front desk on check out.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room had an odor. We could not adjust the heat - we were either cold or too hot.. Shower did not have much water pressure, and the hot tub was cold, Price was good but probably will not return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Musty smell when we walked down the hall to our room. We had no shower curtain in room - had to call and request one. There was a dog barking constantly, for at least 30 minutes .... continuously. There was no microwave available to pop popcorn.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great overall stay"
very quiet, very clean. A nice, modern looking hotel. The beds were wonderful. The pool was very nice and clean. The staff was great as well. Just a great experience all in allGenuine Expedia guest review
We felt as though we had the last of the hotel picks. Although the sleeping facilities were good, the amenities and indoor environment were not very good. We were very disappointed.Genuine Expedia guest review
"It's an average hotel"
I went away for the weekend to Portland to get away from the city. The hotel was well maintained. It is driving distance or a cab ride away from the city center. The price was $180/night vs $230/night in the Hilton in the middle of the city. The price difference seems slim, but considering the city hotels were booked, the Clarion could charge a higher […] rate. The staff at the welcome desk was friendly. It's an average hotel, just wish the Portland hotels were lower in price in general. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Planes, Traines and Hotel Courtesy Shuttles!"
No hotel in Portand is more conveniently placed for travelers who will be dealing with both the airport (we had to return a rental car) and the Amtrack station (we were taking the downeaster to Boston)! We used the Clarion's courtesy shuttle to retrieve us from the airport-call-to-pick-up 7 minutes!!!, and the next morning, we were delivered to the […] train/bus terminal in less than 5 minutes! Super friendly desk staff, and clean, comfy room. I highly recommend! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quick overnight stay only."
Quick overnight stay only. Location was reason for choice of this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
My curtains did not close at all leaving the outside to look in. I didn't like that there was nothing on the bathroom vanity: no soap dish so you just put the soap on the counter. The bed and pillows were great. Morning staff were disinterested in helping as I needed a shuttle and check out. My stay was sufficient for a night but I would not stay a […] gain. "Nice hotel a short drive to downtown"
The Clarion was surprisingly nice considering my expectations were somewhat low. If you don't mind driving into downtown (which is a bit of a pain considering parking) the Clarion is worth the money you'll save by staying outside downtown. The hotel staff was wonderfully friendly and helpful. All things considered, if I went to Portland again with the […] intention of shopping, etc in the Old Port area, I would spend the extra money to stay downtown. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel, convenient airport shuttle, great staf"
My husband and I stayed at this hotel because he was arriving at the Portland airport on a late arriving flight. I did not realize that the shuttle stopped at 11pm, however the staff was extremely helpful and told us about a taxi service that would be very economical and offered to send the taxi out when he called them on arrival . They ultimately offered […] to comp his taxi trip when he called them to have a taxi sent. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner and both meals were excellent. The gentleman who waited on us (also the bartender and omelet cooker in the am) was friendly and just enjoyable despite being quite busy at times. Can't say enough about how friendly the staff were. The lobby is far superior to the room, and the hallways. There is an odor in the hallways that is not quite right. It was not cigarette smoke, but like a casino that had been cleaned, but not completely. The bathroom door lock had damage to the area surrounding the lockset, which I reported to the front desk; the person who took the info said he would […] note it on the my bill. The door had pry marks clearly visible. Why would this not be reported by housekeepers, and repaired? Don't know if I would stay at a Clarion again Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It was very close to the airport, we flew in late and just wanted to go strait to bed and it was perfect for that.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Would not recommend"
My biggest cimplaints would be mold in the shower, and no included cintinental breakfast. when i told the staff at checkout about mold on the shower curtain, they saidthey would clean it, but did nothing to make up for the incomvience. i would not recommend this hotel, especially for the price.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nother Fancy but Nice"
The hotel staff are very helpful and courteous. The room we stayed was very clean and comfortably furnished. The hotel is conveniently located from the airport and provided shuttle service to the airport. The restaurant was adequate but service was very slow.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not bad nothing fancy"
It was okay. Entrance light did not work when we entered and the fridge was off so it was warm, I appreciate the energy saving but it took a while to get cold. The hot and cold water was reversed. Again not a terrible thing but it isn't five star. The bartender was super nice, the food is middle grade, with so many great restaurants in portland I would […] only eat there if you were tired, and it was late, and you didn't want to go into town. The carpet was kind of dingy also. At $150.00 there are others that are nicer and at that price I would expect a little cleaner room. It is right by the airport and the bus station so that is supper convenient. Good luck out there! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lost & Found Service HORRIBLE!!!"
Staff was friendly and helpful when we checked in, she even gave us a map and pointed out all her recommended attractions and restaurants for us. The room was about average according to its price. But when I realized I left my iphone charger in the room in one day after I checked out, the nightmare started. First, I called the front desk and he transferred […] me to the cleaning squad but nobody picked up the phone, so I left a message. After waited for one day, I called their front desk again and told them my situation, the front desk man told me he would make sure the cleaning squad received my message and would let them contact me ASAP. But that never happened, then I called them the third time, I did not even finish explaining my situation and that front desk man just cut me from the middle of the conversation and transferred me again. And once again, NOBODY was answering and NOBODY called me back till now. I mean, it is not about the money I need to spend for the charger, I can easily order a new one online. It is about the promise their staff made and the way they treat their customer. I will never go to this hotel again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice hotel."
Shuttle does not run from airport after 11PM. Taxi is about 12.00. Be sure and make a res for the shuttle in the morning to the airport at the front desk.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clarion on Congress, Portland MA"
Drove into Portland, needed a pit stop on my way to Boston. Busy weekend in Portland ahead of Labor Day weekend. All hotels in the Old Port were booked, so I elected the Clarion. This hotel is just outside the Old Port, but only a 10 minute $10 cab ride away. Free parking, clean room, basic hotel with places to eat nearby. A bit rundown overall and […] nothing fancy but works. I would stay here again if I needed to. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Last minute location near Portland Center"
While the hotel is off the beaten path, it's location is not a problem, although better directions on the website would help. The facility is basic, lobby plain but adequate and breakfast substantial. Where I struggled was with the condition of the room and housekeeping.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel room I received was nothing at all like the picture I booked. I was told that they were fully booked and could not change my room. Also, staff basically ignored you. There was absolutely no customer service to be found. Room was run down and in need of maintenance. Cleaning was superficial, shower was terrible.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Rooms were close, price right. The hotel public areas are very dirty! The elevators are nasty, rugs dirty, walls scraped, tables in foyer scratched. It's to bad because it could be a great spot but it is really discusting how dirty it is!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Well Run Hotel but not conveniently located."
This hotel is a gem with responsive and helpful staff. It is located a bit out of the downtown area but if you have bikes or are willing to drive downtown, it is an easy commute. The breakfast is great and only $8.95, a real deal for us New Yorkers!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I expected a better hotel for spending $200 a night. The elevator is extremely slow. Staff is polite.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We were very disappointed in the breakfast buffet-the food was cold and soggy and tasteless.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient, close to airport and major highway"
The hotel staff was very helpful, the waitperson at the restaurant was efficient and charming. The hotel didn't provide any guide to services in the room, such as room service or restaurant times or location. There was not a place in the hotel to buy any forgotten items, nor were any available at the desk. Still, the room was clean, the hotel was quiet, […] and we were generally pleased with out stay. "Clarion - Portland, ME"
I was very disappointed with the Clarion in Portland, ME. I selected this hotel, because I expected more. The hotel did not seem clean. The bed had such a strong odor. I had to sleep on one side of it. NOT WORTH THE $ $ $ $. Will not reccomend another Clarion.Genuine Expedia guest review
"3 Nights at the Clarion"
Other than the desk clerks, there is little to applaud. One evening we came home to find our room had not been cleaned. We had to call to the front desk for towels et al. The tub drain did not funtion well...at the conclusion of each shower, I was standing in an inch or more of water in the tub.The air conditioner had no happy medium...either too hot […] (we tried to use this a couple of evenings when the weather turned cooler) or too cold. The walls were too thin...we could hear our neighbors all too clearly..and loudly. The mattress we had (king bed) offered little support. It was too old. The pillows were in a similar state...not much there. And the hotel in general was dirty...carpets, windows, elevators. It was not maintained very well. I would never stay there again. "You pay more for less in the summer months"
Hotel rates in Portland are very high in the summer. This property is in need of a renovation. Hall carpeting was worn and torn. No refrigerator or microwave in room. I visit Maine 2 or 3 times a year and have to stay at less then ideal facilities in the summer because of the costs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Reminded me of a third world cruiseship"
I have stayed in a lot of discount hotels during business and vacation travels but this one takes the cake. The first red flag was when the check-in clerk interrupted the check-in process to speak loudly into his walkie talkie (and our faces) that he would talk to that person after he was "done with this guy", meaning me. We then trekked to the far […] end of the fifth floor using the only working elevator (the one closest to our room and parking area was out of order) and were unfortunate enough to hear the cleaning staff literally yelling at each other about what a terrible job they were doing. The yelling was still going on after we left the hotel 45 minutes later. In spite of the service staffs' apparent focus on a job well done, the cleanliness was appalling. The hallway on the fifth floor had huge sections of torn wallpaper and smelled musty. Our room has an 18 inch wide patch of brown/black sticky substance on the carpet and the bathroom looked like it was plumbed by the three stooges. If you have another option for staying in Portland I recommend you give this place a miss. We stayed two nights and won't be back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
