"Please offer free internet access"
I have stayed many times at the Whitehall Hotel, and like th ocation, rooms, etc. My one serious complain is that the hotel still charges $12.95 per day for internet access -- which I refuse to pay believing it should be offered free. When I don't pay for it, the hotel does not get any money -- but the service is "there" available for free if they would […] offer it. This is a real inconvenience for me as I travel and depend on the internet for my emails. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very rude people"
I did not like my experience at the Whitehall. I had to encounter the rudest front desk person I have ever experienced in over 40 years of staying at hotels. Also, it took three visits by their maintenance staff to make the television accommodating my hearing impaired friend. Finally the telephone wasn't fully charged.....I had to wait on that too. […] I will never stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Small but nice"
The Whitehall is a smaller hotel among the skyscrapers but the hotel & staff were great. Older classic styling with modern conveniences. Need to have bell staff bring ice up to your room because they don't have ice machines on the floors & $57 per night parking (valet only) are the main negatives experienced. Rooms are not huge and bathroom was small […] but stylish. Vedry comfortable beds! Great location near the north end of Magnificent Mile literally just around the corner from Michigan Ave. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Joshua, the supervisor"
Joshua, Joshua, a very dull yet kind person with great customer service. He's very hard to read but his service is out of this world. He's lacking emotions but again, his job is not to be a bubbly type of person, it's to offer great customer service and he did just that. The door men at this place are amazing. There are two Alex, both are amazing and […] nice. Basically, I will definitely recommend this place to others and will go back there soon. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Incredible incredible location. The most horrible internet service that I have ever encountered...anywhere...and anytime! The people working there are always very kind and helpful. But I must say are rather strangely defensive and un-helpful when it comes to the CONSTANT problems with the internet. That the Hotel charges $9.95 daily for it incredulous […] enough but when I said I'm not paying it they agreed and that was good. So Great location, good price and if you don't need to use the internet...No Problem! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"simple vintage elegance"
A great vintage hotel just of the Mag Mile. Convenient parking ramp across the street. Public transportation at within one block. Everything Chicago has to offer within reach. The two restaurants are very good as well. As expected of an older hotel, it is a little under-elevatored. Walk down from 4th or lower, if you are able, otherwise be prepared […] to wait for a lift. Courteous, professional staff; excellent amenities (hair dryer, coffee and tea in the lobby, etc); comfortable room. I can't live without my morning espresso, and fortunately there was a Starbucks right around corner. My only gripe is minor: the room was a bit dark. Since I was doing some work from my hotel room, I would have liked one more bright lamp […] available. Apart from that, I was very happy with The Whitehall and would gladly stay there again. "Nice hotel near Hancock Building and Michigan Ave"
The hotel has a very interesting history. The room was very comfortable and pleasing to the eye. The hotel did not offer any type of Continental Breakfast but did have free coffee. There was a Starbucks down the street which was nice. The hotel has a restaurant where you could sit and order a full meal. It also has a small bar area. The room had no […] refrigerator, wet bar or even an ice bucket. You had to call downstairs for ice and they would bring it to you. Staff was extremely pleasant and always offering help. I would return to this Historic Hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We chose this hotel because of the price first but it turned to be an excellent hotel on all accounts. It was convenient to most everything- the magnificent mile, the the Chicago trolley for the your and the Hancock tower. The staff and room were excellentGenuine Expedia guest review

"Chicago's Hidden Jewel"
My wife and I recently stayed at the Whitehall Hotel in Chicago............ It was our first visit to Chicago...... The Whitehall Hotel is a "hidden jewel"...... The rooms were exceptionally clean and neat, and it is only a minute away from the "Magnificent Mile"and and less than a ten minute walk to the Navy Pier........... The staff at the hotel were […] second to none............. William Tune the concierge, was most helpful, in providing us the names of great restaurants in the area, as well as recommending the double decker trolley tour bus, to see all the sights around Chicago............ We purchased the three day pass where you could get on an off the bus whenever you wanted.......... Beside touring the city in the day timesreg, we also took the bus in the evening where the buildings were all lit up......... Quite the value for the price............ "Toni" the lady at the registration desk was very helpful in making sure that our stay at the hotel was great..... She remembered our names every time we passed through the lobby........... "Value for money......NOT"
For what his hotel cost us for the night we were horrified to find our refrigerator locked on check in. We have never never stayed at a hotel where they have charged extra for this convenience. We also found out that we had to pay for the wifi and then it was only available on the first floor. We were located on the 12 so again not convenient. Basically […] for the cost you get a nice room and an ok view. Would not recommend this hotel even though has good location as it is not a good value hotel and in this day and age paying for the basic on top is not acceptable. Came from Detroit for shopping and entertainment. Hot outside, 68 degrees in our room. Beautiful decor, completely updated. Will book again at the rate we got from Hotels.com.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Maybe an ok choice for vacationing families, but not recommended for business trips. I'd need basic amenities like functioning wireless internet in my room. Having a coffee maker would be great, too, it's been a standard issue comfort in most hotels for years. A functioning fridge so things don't spoil. NOT being woken up repeatedly in the middle of […] the night because of "malfunctioning phone systems" would be great. "A Pleasant Stay"
Overall I was pleased with this hotel stay. The location of the hotel is excellent and within walking distance to many attractions. Pros: room was clean and spacious, comfortable bed, location, and an onsite gym. "An older hotel, but well staffed and maintained."
The Whitehall had an older feel to it, yet still quite classy. It did not appear worn down or anything, save for maybe the noise the elevator makes. Other than that everything functioned well and it did just what I needed, housed me for 3 nights while I did business. Not overly fancy or romantic, but wouldn't be a bad stop if that's what you were looking […] for on a budget. Good staff, two restaurants I didn't try. Free paper in the morning. "A Chicago Classic"
I put my producer up at the Whitehall. As I live in Chicago and he is from Los Angeles, I wanted him to stay at a classical Chicago hotel. And he could not say enough good things about his stay. We ate in the restaurant that has a little patio outside one night, and I have now recommended it to locals! We had duck and spring rolls. Really good Chinese […] food is hard to come by I think, and we had a beautiful meal at a price that would shame other hotels. The Whitehall made me proud of my city. We had a good experience. However, we requested a microwave for our room and was told we could not get one. My wife, on the following day, asked for microwave again. She was told we could have one. "A great small hotel that aims to please."
Excellent hotel at a reasonable price. The only thing I'd change: they need coffee makers in the rooms... as coffee is not available until 7 a.m. That's much too late, in my opinion.Genuine Expedia guest review

"chicago hidden gem"
The Whitehall was a no frills hotel with great location to the lake, shopping, and restaurants. It did not have a fitness room, banquet hall, or huge lobby but it did have very comfortable bedding, updated bathroom, and a flat screen tv which is what most visitors need for the most part visiting Chicago. The service was great when needed a cab, luggage […] assistance, and neighborhood recommendations. It also had a beautiful wooden walled dining lounge and bar. It was a bargain for the price and great location and we plan to visit there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Disappointed, No microwave, refridgerator, or coffee maker in the room. We went to dinner and would have loved to bring our leftover food to the room, but with no refridgerator or microwave to reheat it we had to leave it.I've never had to pay extra for these things.I did like how we were able to check in early, and check out time 12:00 instead of the […] usual 10:00. "Great Overall Value in a Downtown Chicago Hotel"
The Whitehall is a smaller, older, "boutique" hotel that is a solid choice if you want to stay in downtown Chicago. Location is great; just off the Magnificent Mile. Just about 3 blocks to the redline subway and a couple to a bus stop to the Navy Pier. Practically next door to Hancock Observatory. It's also an easy walk down the Mag Mile to the Michigan […] Ave. Bridge and the Chicago River. A few more blocks and you're at Millenium Park and the "The Bean". Also a short walk a few blocks north up to a bar/restaurant district at Rush and Division streets. So really you can't pick a better hotel location downtown. I stayed in mid-July and the rates were very reasonable. I drove into town and the valet staff was very helpful and on point. Check-in was easy and fairly quick. The staff was also very responsive and helpful. Upon entering the room I got quick help with a phone problem and had ice brought up (no ice machine on the floor). PLUS, I had a death in the family during my stay and had to check out 2 days early...the staff had no problem letting me out of my last two nights with no penalty. Again the hotel is older...hallways are dark and smallish...not a particularly beautiful property, but the rooms are perfectly nice, clean and comfortable. I wish I could've stayed longer to check out the bar/restaurant, but this is a SOLID choice for your stay, and I would definitely book here again with no qualms. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The only Chicago hotel for me."
The Whitehall is a beautiful hotel in a great location at a great price. Our room on the 20th floor had a spectacular view of Michigan Avenue, the John Hancock Center, and Lake Michigan. The room was spacious for any city hotel, and the bed itself was a dream. "Great location for the price"
This hotel was a great bargain compared to other hotels near Michigan Ave. It was just across the street from the John Hancock building, making it very easy to go have a cocktail on the 96th floor the day of arrival. The redline subway is just few blocks away and lots of restaurants in the area, including two in the lobby. The staff were friendly, including […] a few doorman. Only complaints were the elevators were small and slow, making waits long sometimes and the bathroom had a few things that were outdated. Our room did not have a view, but could be that a few on higher floors may have. It was not important to us. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel, best location for a weekend getaway!!"
The WhiteHall was a small, charming, cozy, pretty little hotel right in the heart of Chicago. The staff were so incredibly nice and helpful to my fiancé and I. They showed us how to use the subway to get to the white sox game, always had cabs waiting for us in the evening, and were so helpful with directions. Our room was beautiful!! Don't judge the […] pictures on the website because most of the rooms are redone and modernized. The hotel overlooks the gargantuan four seasons which is right across the street!! Our room was spotless and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever stayed in. We were boppin around the city for three days so we knew room size and hotel accommodation would not be most important. Hancock tower is one block away, subway is 4 blocks away, and michigan avenue and all major shopping is a 5 min walk!! go to CRU for breakfast its so good and right next to the hotel!! pretty outside breakfast tables!!Overall great place and we will definitely be back!!
