I could see how if u wanted a very peaceful relaxing vacation this might not be the place for you. for me i brought all 5 of my nboys and this was just as fun for us as going to all inclusive vacation in puerto vallarta, mexico. we had a blast and the staff was as helpful as anyone. would recommend this resort to anyone with kids. thanks tan tar a

The front desk seemed to take a long time to check-in guests. The parking is horrible, we had to park a long way from our building. The room numbers are not in order. Our room was in an older cabin that appeared due for some refreshing, but was clean and cool, also very near the pool. The staff was the real gem. So accommodating and helpful! We will definitely go back. Maybe in the fall to see the colors next time!

Hotel amenities were amazing! location wasnt at all what we thought, it was in the middle of no where!! the bath tub wouldnt drain for hour and the dor to our room was very hard to open.. a lot of the staff was vey rude, bowling staff was VERY rude, you can tell she doesnt enjoy her job.

Needs to maintain hotel for the price of room. Pool tiles falling off into the pool. Parking is terrible. Place is from the 70"s, the entire hotel needs a remodel. Not at all worth the money. Was disappointed that we were on the 3rd floor and there was not an elevator. Didn't want to eat fast food but the nice restaurant only served sandwiches and soup for lunch. Who wants soup when it's 100 outside? Not me.

We checked […] in and went to the estates. This was one of the worse rooms I had ever seen. Tan-Tar-A, was own an operated by Marriott hotel company. I am not sure of its ownership now. They should of been ashamed of presenting this room to a guest. The curtains were torn and dirty. The high back chair arms were worn and tattered. The walls and ceiling were in great need of fresh paint. We requested a new room and got one. It was a little better, but still in needed some fresh paint. There was no phone service. The TV was about 1980 vintage. The pool area even needed updating. The pool itself was so small leaving little to no space to swim or relax. The 4 loud kids took over the pool. There were no towels at the pool. The shingles were even coming off the pool house. This resort was built in the 60's and looks like it. A facelift is much needed here!!!!! I even stayed at this hotel 6 years ago when I attended conferences here. It was needing some updates then. I was hoping for more current improvements. This could be a lovely resort. My friend and I booked a room for a weekend of relaxation. We arrived Thursday evening, around 930p. We drove up to the circle drive, I went inside to check-in, came out, and sat in the car for a good 8 minutes while the other guests that were parked in the circle came out of the hotel and pulled out. There were golf carts taking up most of the circle, […] which made it impossible for more than 1 car to get thru. We then proceeded to follow a confusing map to our room in the Estates. Once we arrived at our building, we found cars parked in our designated spot. Upon entering the building, we noticed it smelled like a dirty hamster cage. We found our room at the bottom of the stairs and entered. The door pushed against the door frame and was difficult to open. It had to be pushed hard from the inside and slammed from the outside to close it. There was no phone in our room, a phone-jack yes, but no phone. There was no booklet with any resort information. The room was otherwise clean and seemed to be well-kept. There was a shared balcony that was at the time of our arrival, occupied by the neighbors, including our chairs and table. After settling in we were unable to find any open restaurant or any other type of food available to us. We drove to the nearest town and had dinner. Getting back to our room, we were welcomed with other guests doors being slammed open and closed, a lack of soundproofing as we overheard others conversations, and lovely squeaking boards above our beds. We were in an older part of the resort, and the rooms were a little dated, but super clean and huge! We were happy to have a refrigerator and coffee maker in the room-- they were a big plus. The buffet style dinner we had there the first night left a lot to be desired, but we never did order off the menu, so don't know if that would have been better. […] We received excellent service for the most part. Checked into the spa services, and took the tour, but we felt the prices were way too high. Our room had no view except of the main building, but that was okay with us, for the price. We chose this hotel as it had many amenities. Unfortunately there was no easy way to get to any of them. It was like being a rat in a maze. To get to the pool that was right across from our building, we had to walk the entire perimeter of the resort! Our room had a lovely view of a brick wall that spanned 3 floors above us. When we requested a different/clean room, we were told they were totally booked and could not move us. Housekeeping came and cleaned while we went for a walk in the rat maze. Later when we went to get ice, we discovered a used ice bag with water still in it, in our ice bucket along with the only cup in the room had a hole in it. When called for cups, it took about 45 minutes to receive! Later when we were checking the room before we left, my husband found empty bottles of soda under the bed. I guess housekeeping didn't check! Yuck, yuck, yuck! I would not recommend this hotel as it is dated, dirty, and difficult to maneuver. Save your money and stay anywhere else! Read more

This once lovely hotel is still sporting the '80s look. Because the hotel was full for 3 conventions, I was sent a 20 minute shuttle drive away in the "Tan-Tar-A Estates". My room was horrid. The decor was thrift store quality. Very outdated and worn. My room didn't have a phone, so it would have been impossible for the staff to reach me in an emergency. […] You had to shlep your luggage up 30 stairs on a steep hill to the front door, then enter a dark hallway and feel your way up to the second floor room. Customer service was outstanding! Food prices somewhat high given the quality but ok if you didnt eat every meal there. Great indoor pool and not very crowded as the family crowd went to the indoor water park. Very spacious room and nice balcony. Great place to stay would recommend it to others!

Seemed they were not well informed of things that families might enjoy around the area. Maids were often cleaning our rooms when we returned in afternoons; not asking if there was any way to help make our stay more pleasant. Pillows […] were soft and gave no neck support. Tennis courts were covered in sand -Why? My daughter and I wanted to play tennis, but found the courts in poor condition. When we went to check in we asked what room we got, since it was only a basic room we asked to upgrade it and the hotel rep told us that it was not possible since we did not book directly though the hotel. This even though they were nowhere near capacity. The entire resort is in need of major overhaul, the only bar that was open had no ambiance, was […] not comfortable to sit at and really expensive, there was no food to be had anywhere after 10pm....this is a resort??? The room was dated but clean, the bed was comfortable. Overall I'd give this a place 2 stars, mainly for the old dated early 80's feel, lack of food anywhere after 10pm and the lack of customer service from the rep. Why do they even list their hotel with outside booking companies if they're going to treat guests that don't book directly with them like they just don't care. Read more

The hotel definitely needs some updates, but we go for the indoor water park. Black Bear Lodge has great breakfast and the kids love the Bear's Den Arcade. Love the little shops on Market Lane.

There were large number of teenagers staying at the hotel. The staff did not manage the group well enough. The teenagers continued to be loud till 1 am. This made our stay "not comfortble."
