The Kingsize bed was the most comfortable we have ever had in a hotel. The bathroom was outstanding, exactly what I expect from a junior suite separate large shower and large bathtub. Towels were lush as well as robes and slippers. They actually had woman sized slippers!!!! The room had motion sensors so at night if you woke-up you had floor lights go off for safty! Loved It!

Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel itself, especially it's location. The room was comfortable and clean. After touring all day, dinner and a play each evening, we like to wake up late. The hotel receptionist should have been honest and explained why he offered us a room on a higher floor.....of course, at a higher rate. Being on the 3rd floor, it felt like the jack-hammer was right beneath us. Even after making an inquiry call to Guest Services, we were not offered a room change. I should have been more assertive, but also knew that the sidewalk repairs were beyond the hotel's control. Other hotels in the area were also in the same predicament. Neither could the hotel have known 7 months in advance, when I made the reservations, if there would have been any jack hammering at 7 am every day. No real solution, totally tired.....but loved NY!

I had high expectations from this hotel, but I ended up being diapointed from the dayly issues - mainly from poor managment. Every day - there was something missing in the room for which we needed to call numerous times. It took forever to get even ice delivered. At 7 AM- we were woken up from an unbearable street construction noice. At the end of our stay- we were charged with a Bar bill and Parking bill, although we never used either of them. The Manager conducted an "Investigation" for 6 hours without resolution. We will need to contact our Credit card instead to request the fake charges to be removed. Not to mention that for 45 seconds phone call to a cell phone in Virginia- we were charged $ 10,55. The prices of the room calls are not listed anywhere.

This was my second stay at the Jumeirah Essex House. The first stay happened a few months ago and my impression of the hotel was quite positive, with a lovely, well-sized and equipped room, so I decided to book again. This time around, though, I was severely disappointed and doubt I shall return unless I hear of vast improvements. I had my wife with me this trip and looked forward to the comfort and style of the room I had during the aforementioned first stay, since we were having a medical procedure and would be spending more time in the hotel than usual. Unfortunately, the rooms we were assigned were not only much smaller than the one I got the first time around, the appointments were also sorely lacking. That's right, I said "rooms", plural, not because my wife and I stayed in separate rooms, but because we had to change rooms twice. The first room we got didn't have a bathtub and was smaller than I remembered the Essex King Room I got last time being. We switched. Second room had a very awkward design that didn't suit us and no place to put our luggage. Third room wasn't a charm, but by the time we got to it we were tired and decided to cut our losses. This one had a bathroom, but was small and had, more importantly, the tiniest closet I've ever seen in a New York City hotel. I mean lunchbox-sized, nothing-fits tiny. Then there were other "small" things, like a certain indifference in the service. Our bed was never properly made during the day, but merely left in the "turned down" mode one would expect only in the evening. Getting extra anything usually required several calls to Guest Services. This was topped off on the day of our departure, when we had to call twice for a bellhop. Also, call me nitpicky, but my strolls through the lobby had me quite dissatisfied as well. I would pass by one particular seating area every day of my stay and notice the cushions of the armchairs were out of place, disheveled. After a while I noticed that no one really bothered

My expectations for the Jumeirah were perhaps a little on the high side - great location and of course the name of a famous Dubai hotel group Arriving at the hotel reception did not allay that perception - a beautiful and ornate area with lovely seating area's However, thats where the positive perception came to an end. The reception was kept at such a low temperature that it was impossible to sit there in any comfort whatsoever. With only two people at check-in, I queued to check in and check out. Arriving in my bedroom, I found 1ply toilet paper in the bathroom - having only seen this type of paper in youth hostels and country B&B's, I was genuinly surprised. In addition, the bath looked like it hadn't been changed since its installation back in the 1930's - shower curtain and all. Rusty brown staining and peeling enamel were so bad that I used shower shoes when I was showering. All in all not what I would expect.

Good location for tourists with plenty of sights within walking distance but beware of extreme noise pollution and constant pandering from pedicabs, bike rentals and horse carriages. Hotel lobby was small but beautiful and the lounge had a cool metro vibe although we never used it since it was overcrowded with arriving guests. Gym seemed well equipped but incredibly small and unappealing and spa services, as everything in this property, were outrageously priced. The attached South Gate Rest & Bar was attractively decorated but again the prices were far too high for the quality of food/drink. All restaurants within walking distance are more of the same: exspensive and not so good. Our standard king room was spacious but the shower curtain/liner were badly mildewed and stank the entire room so badly that we had to request a replacement. Amazing that nobody noticed until then! Our room had no view except for an unattractive service courtyard. The room's TV remote control was annoyingly slow to accept commands and pre-programmed mood lighting was nice but difficult to decipher. Room service is outrageously priced and after taxes/tips, we ended up paying $30.50 for mediocre coffee for two, JUST COFFEE! The hotel has bikes available but beware that means only TWO bikes. We were never told they had a time limit policy but nonetheless we were loudly and repeatedly chastized in the lobby upon our return by the woman working the luggage stand. The rest of the staff seemed friendly enough although the overall experience was far from the descriptions on the hotel's own advertising. You'll be paying for LOCATION!!

The weekend was quiet, the bed and bathroom linens were comfy cozy. The carpet was stained from previous guests and the bathtub had seen better days. We were awakened Monday morning at 7am by jackhammers across the street. We were not warned by hotel staff upon check-in that this may occur or we would've requested a different room, or chosen a different hotel. When telling mgmt, they said they couldn't control construction in Manahattan and b/c it was in their hotel, it wasn't their problem. They could offer no discount b/c the reservation was already paid online. They would only offer a complimentary breakfast and accept no responsibility for not notifying us re: the construction. The internet is not wireless, there's only 1 HBO channel, and the charge for on demand movies is more expensive than going out to see a movie or buying a DVD. If you choose to stay, stay in the middle or front of the hotel. The construction on 58th street is just beginning and will be going for a year or so. Or choose another hotel. Our experience was a 3 star hotel with an inflated rating.
