"Close to Central Park and Midtown!"
I love that the integrity of the hotel has not been comprised - it still has the feel of the old Essex House. It was priced right and the staff is very helpful! I would go back again and again!Genuine Expedia guest review

OVERALL A GREAT HOTEL, OFFERING THE BEST VALUE FOR LOCATION. STAFF VERY FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL. WE WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN.Genuine Expedia guest review
"My favorite hotel in New York City"
My wife and I lived in Manhattan for 25 years. We go back to the City to visit fairly frequently and we have stayed in the JW Marriott Essex House for our past two stays (one night in November and a week in August). In August we had a suite because we had our two kids with us; this trip was for our wedding anniversary so we had a regular room with queen […] bed. A smaller but very cozy room...everything we wanted. The Essex House has the GREATEST location, right on Central Park and close to Fifth Avenue and Sarabeth's, my favorite breakfast spot. I am a runner, so I especially love the location near the park. The lobby looks incredibly formal but it is okay to come through in sweaty running clothes...lol. This is one of the great old time NYC hotels and incredibly well managed by the Marriott family -- not just some franchise... Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Essex - great location to Central Park"
Stayed at hotel during the NYC marathon weekend. The hotel rooms were nice, spacious and clean. Hotel service was great. Friendly and helpful staff. I loved staying at this location. Much quieter neighborhood but still close to shopping, sites and across the street from Central Park.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not what it used to be"
Used to be a lovely, well maintained hotel. Not any more - showing signs of wear from the lobby to the rooms. Lobby looking a bit shabby and not well kept, from condition of the rugs and floors to the smell, which isn't pleasant. Rooms also just a bit run down.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Got To Love New York"
Great hotel, love the location, service, and room. It's expensive, but then most places in New York are. This is a wonderful location as it is literally right across the street from Central Park, close to the subway, close to a delicious Italian restaurant - Belle Vita, and a short walk to Time's Square. The staff is professional but friendly. We stayed […] in a Manhatten suite which is comfortable, large, and well equipped. We stayed here before and intend to stay here again next time we have the pleasure of playing in New York. I highly recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, friendly staff and beautiful hotel"
I booked this hotel for my fiancé and I. We booked a standard room and were upgraded to a suite on the 38th floor upon check in! The staff went out of their way to make our wedding weekend very special. The hotel is lovely and the staff does an outstanding job. Room service is expensive but always delivered within 30 minutes. The location is close to […] Columbus Circle, shopping on 5th avenue and Broadway. It's close enough to the hustle and bustle but far enough away to enjoy the quietness and beauty if Central Park across the street. Don't miss an opportunity to have lunch or any meal at Whole Foods 2 blocks away. You can grab picnic supplies or enjoy a meal out under $60! Our room was very comfortable and the decor was tasteful. We will be back for sure! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great facility and good location"
The check in process is very slow. The room was not ready and we waited for approximately three hours. Fortunately, we were across the street from Central Park. I do not believe that have sufficient staff to turn over the required rooms by 3pm check in time. However, the staff is very friendly and polite. There was a mix up in our booking as a few of […] the nights were pre-paid, one was with Marriott reward points and another with AMEX. The computer system was not able to handle this and at one point they had no record of our being in the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Amazing getaway.. Our only complaint was that we called a month in advance to specifically request a room with a view of Central Park. We were supposedly guaranteed one, however, upon arrival were told no such room was available. So although the hotel was great and the rooms were nice, guarantees mean nothing to JW Marriott. Now we know.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is so close to Central Park and the Theater District! We loved it. The beds were luxurious and the room was nice and quiet. Perfect!Genuine Expedia guest review
"nice hotel and location but too small room."
The hotel location is good, near to central park. but the room is too small and self parking is really difficultGenuine Expedia guest review
The location is excellent, but the hotel need to be refurbished. The service at the restaurant is not that good.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great time close to everything . Would go back and stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"All that glitters is not gold"
This was such a grand hotel and on the surface still appears that way upon entering. The actual room was tired and in need of a makeover. The lighting was complicated to operate and did not offer much illumination. The worst feature was the positioning of the faucet handles on the bathroom sink. They were right along the rim of the counter and poked […] you in the chest when leaning over to brush teeth, etc. Very strange. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"attended a wedding there"
Our room was not available with a king bed when we checked in. I was told we would have a rollaway but that did not exist! We settled for a room with 2 double beds. The room stunk of ben gay which they did try to alleviate but the odor was in the bedding also. I had discussed with sales that I would be attending the wedding and wanted to make sure that […] the bride and groom knew I would be there. They were not told so that was a little embarrassing. They felt bad that we did not have a welcome bag or invite to the brunch. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I booked a "deluxe" Central Park "view" and got a room with scaffolding in the middle of the "view" on a floor so low I could see some trees in the Park but not the Park itself. Desk personnel, apparently as part of their procedures, advised me I had indicated a "preference" for view room; this was false--I had paid for it. Three days after I checked […] in hotel personnel searched my bathroom saying they were looking for a prior guest's cufflink. Plywood under mattress was visible. Room was tiny not "deluxe" at all. Removed wall hardware left an unrepaired mark on wall of room. I feel as though I was robbed. Former owner, Jumeirah knew how to run this hotel; JWW Marriott has no idea what it's doing. This is the worst experience I've ever had at a grand hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Great location and nice hotel. The room décor was dated compared to other Marriott properties and smelled of smoke which was unfortunate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our stay was extraordinary. Service from the front desk at check in through check out was the best. They went extra steps to please us the whole way. Looking forward to our next stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Fantastic and friendly, we arrived early (red eye flight) and they checked us in by 9AM.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Huge room- close to everything."
We truly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful historic hotel right in the middle of it all.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was very nice and friendly but our room was a little dingy with stains on the carpeting. Our mini bar was locked and even housekeeping could not get it to open. With no coffee maker, they should have offered coffee in the lobby.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Centrally located for both business and pleasure"
I have stayed at the hotel a number of times and find the staff to be incredibly attentive to guest needs. The rooms, gym and common areas are always very clean, well lighted and the art work very attractive. The location provides guests with a short walk to some of the best shopping and tourist sites including Central Park (directly across street) […] as well as close proximity to many of NY's corporatations like IBM, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, etc... "Hotel Conveniently Located and Exceptional Service"
The Hotel is perfectly situated in the middle of most tourist attractions. Walking distance to Central Park, The Food Hall, 5th Avenue, Top of the Rock, Broadway, Time's Square & countless other attractions. Aside from needing a taxi to the airport, we only needed a taxi once during our 4-day stay. The hotel staff was exceptionally nice and eager to […] help with any thing needed. The Concierge gave the best recommendations and the maid service was top notch. Our room would get serviced twice a day and we always had ice in our bucket. The Hotel Restaurant had an enticing menu with a very friendly wait staff and Room Service was 24-hours. I can't say enough about the service! My group consisted of 3 people and we stayed in a roomy Junior Suite. The bathroom was large, the lighting was adequate and the walk-in closet was an added plus to accommodate clothing and shoes for 3 girls. I would definitely stay here again! The receptionist was very efficient and we checked in smothly but the elevator hall had no security eventhough there was a sign to show the room key and anyone could take the elevator to all the floors. We stayed in junior suite hoping for at least some kind of a view but to no avail. Walls and walls only. The interior was dated and unpleasant. The […] bathroom door had a scratch as if somebody tried to open it with a crowbar. Bathroom door got jammed coming out as expected and had to body check the door. The handle for the faucet on the sink were in the front of the sink. Unusual and very much in your way when washing your hands and face. There were three different settings for the shower; hand held, from the top and faucet to fill the tub. However, the dial sign was missing on the hadle to choose which one to use so one had to get sprayed one way or other to get the water running. As for the room, there were holes on the wall where some fixtures were removed and few pieces of garbage were still left on the floor as well as on the dresser. When the room was cleaned the following day, mini bar was refilled but somehow a jar of nuts were left out and we were charged automatically. (We did get the charge taken out) Checking out was another unpleasant experience. Only one person was working, taking care of a group of people checking in. It was 9:30 in the morning and we expected a smooth exit but had to wait for 15 minutes until more help came to the reception desk. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Location of the hotel was excellent. But spa and gim were closed.(it wasn't written on website when we invited). There is smell not good in the room. There is noise from out side of facilities of hotel. We ask for another room , but they hadn't.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very nice hotel next to Central Park"
This was a very clean, nice hotel across the street from Central Park. The concierge had very good recommendations for Japanese restaurants. We chose to go to Blue Ribbon, which was a couple blocks walking distance away. We were very pleased with the food there. My husband was able to go run in Central Park the next morning. Within walking distance […] was the Plaza hotel, where we ate lunch in the Todd English Food Hall in the basement. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"great location for families"
The room was huge in size. Double beds is standard in NY, but the size of the room is gigantic compared to other hotels, even the 5 stars! Nightly turn down service is nice; they leave chocolates and the kids loved it. Across the street from Central Park and walking distance to Times Square (Toys r us with giant ferris wheel and m&m world), Museum of […] Natural History, FAO, Broadway and other touristy spots. Staff was pretty good. Nothing like the southern hospitality I am used to, but okay. Some staff seemed annoyed to be bothered, but a lot of New York is like that. Hotel is getting some outside renovations but noticed no construction going on while we were there. Our 2 double bed room overlooked a "court yard" aka 3 brick walls, but ended up being perfect because we heard absolutely no noise; traffic or anything else from anyone. Only bad thing was that there are no ice machines so we they had to send it up each time after we called them for it and the fridge has sensors, so you cannot 'borrow' it to put your own water or whatever in it. Besides that, it was perfect. We would stay there again next time we go back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Get a good night's sleep!"
The walls are apparently very thick as I don't have a problem with neighbor noise here, unlike other places. Usually good mattresses too. Unfortunately, I saw a silverfish in the bathroom, though. Otherwise, everything was very nice, as usual.Genuine Expedia guest review
nice location but the rooms are stating to look beat up with chips on the furniture and just worn down. also if you book a room w queen beds your view will be a 60 foot brick wall!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"JW Marriott in NYC"
We always stay in Essex House everytime we are in New York. We were never disappointed and this time, it's the same. Since it became JW Marriott, it's even better. Great location, great hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Changeover to Marriott has been seamless"
I stayed at the Essex House a week before it changed over to the Marriott. With the flag change there has been no drop in quality or service. Location is still superb and the rate seemed lower than when the hotel was the Jumiyerah flag.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Location, view and comfort"
This is a beautiful grand, huge old hotel overlooking Central Park. We stayed a week and could easily have stayed longer. While the rooms needed some things fixed, they were big, with more than enough room to swing a squirrel. Staff were friendly, although housekeeping were anxious to get in and clean room despite the DND sign (and a very fair daily […] tip). I am not a big fan of turn out (if you can't fold down your own bed sheets what business have you being in a hotel) but was grateful for ice at cocktail hour. The hotel is a good distance from the nightmarish Times Square so you can walk down and witness the damage corporatisation can wreak on a city without living it daily from your hotel. Check out the old money of NY Aths Club next door, walk in the Park, eat, use the Subway, take the tourist double decker. This is a well located hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"High price to pay for horrible service"
A race was taking place outside the hotel on the day we checked in causing all entrances to the hotel to be blocked off to vehicle trafic off for several blocks. We had to get out of a cab several blocks away and walk our suitcases to the hotel. The hotel had our email address and could have contacted us to tell us of the race circumstances. Room service […] attempted turn down service at 6:00 pm each night, which is prime time for guests getting ready for the evening. We asked if they would perform turndown service at 7:00 pm after we left the room, housekeeping continued to attempt turndown at 6 and not return to perform the service later in the evening. The back entrance to the hotel was locked after 12:00am without prior notice. Although the desk asked which newspaper we would like in the morning, no newspaper was delivered. The front desk simply said they ran out. The restaurant was not in operation for breakfast the last morning we were guests without prior notice. The front bar area was available for buffet only at $40 person. The hotel was performing some maintenance during breakfast causing the fire alarm to be set off while we were eating. Upon check out our clerk asked if we had a nice stay and we stated that we had a few concerns which she might want to address for future guests. The clerk just said "oh" and went on with our check out, she was obliviously did not want to know what the concerns were. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We had a room where you could hear some kind of circulation air system located outside the room which was rather noisy. Room 529. Much of the hotel is under construction downstairs, but the restaurant was still great for breakfast. The High Quality Evening Restaurant is gone, TOO BAD! It had one of the best wine list. The Spa is still Terrific, but I have heard it is going to be replaced by a fitness center. The future is not bright for this Great Hotel and as a result it appears […] that it will soon be less than a JW Marriott. Sadly, because the Spa is closing and terrific restaurant is gone I will not be referring anyone to it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Overall, great hotel"
Housekeeping would come 2x a day to clean your room. However, on the day of checkout, housekeeping came in 2x before the checkout time making us feel being rushed to leave the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great hotel. Service could have been a little better for a 5 star hotel. I couldn't get them to clear the room service dishes for 24 hours even though I asked several times and they skipped the room turndown for some reason. Otherwise very nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall Great! Two nights of stay, great staff. Breakfast average.Genuine Expedia guest review
The JW Essex House is in a perfect location just off Central Park. The staff was pleasant and helpful.
