Marriott New Orleans is located on Canal Street with easy walking access to Riverwalk and French Quarter. The hotel furnishings are updated, but the age of the hotel shows. "Wouldn't go there again."
The lobby was very nice, the room was worth about $75.00 per night. I ask for different room but, I was taken to one that was identical but on the corner, I ask for a credit, no way the front desk clerk responded. She also said renovations were starting in (3) weeks, she knew the room was over priced, but still refused to give me any credit for my stay. "Almost All the Comforts of Home"
Really the only downside was not having a fridge and/or microwave in the room. This is one of the best food cities in the country and we couldn't take leftovers with us from any of the wonderful restaurants. Overall I was pleased with my stay at this Marriott. The room was nice and clean and good sized. The staff were all very pleasant and accommodating. My only complaint was the hot water, or lack thereof. Every time I took a shower, it took at forever to get hot water. I have used Marriott in N.O., and I could not get into J.W. Marriott at a reasonable price, so I selected the regular one. The shower knob was stuck, so maintenance had to come and unstuck it. I was disappointed in the staff's response to a dirty room, not cleaned until we reported it after arriving back to the room late that evening. After two days […] of making them pay attention to this, the 3rd, I was told that they would not go into the room because of of the privacy tag on the door at 2:00 pm. We were not in the room and the tag was not on the door. I informed the staff otherwise, and advised them that the room was clean. Some one was not communicating correctly. We had room service late was night, and the server dropped the water and broke it. She was ok, and I helped her. This required running the vacuum machine while my wife was asleep. There is not room here to write how terrible the daily service is. The check in/front desk/bellmen were great, as was the hospitality lounge....after that, less than "0" for service. Everyone from the concierge to the restaurant staff to the valet (which happens to be $38 a day)....simply terrible. Incredibly rude. The worst I have ever seen. The entire service staff I mentioned acted like they were doing us an enormous favor by acknowledging our existence. We wouldn't have stayed here except we managed to score rooms for $75/night. It's right on the edge of the French Quarter and very easy to get to anywhere in the city from there. Parking is a little pricy, I think ($45/night including tax/tip for the valet), but I suppose that's the price to pay for a guaranteed secure spot. Views from the upper floors […] are fabulous. Just one weird thing--when we got in at 1:00 a.m. there was no water running! "Worst experience ever"
I booked and paid for two night in a room with a king size bed and a view of the Mississippi River two months in advance to celebrate my honeymoon. My wife and I had an all around fabulous wedding and reception we could ever wish for. We both live in New Orleans and just wanted to do something local. after our reception, we went straight to the hotel […] and as soon as we hit the reception desk it was a problem. First the man behind the desk said he was having an issue getting into our reservation b someone else was in it. Why this is I have no clue. So, he made a phone call or three. once off the phone he was able to get into our reservation and at the point he told me that me room with a king size bed was no longer available BECAUSE I checked in to late. I explained that I booked and paid in advance and I was told that because I booked through Expedia I was not guaranteed a king size bed. The best he could do was a room with double beds. This was my honeymoon not a business trip. The man didn't care at all about what I was saying. I was pretty much told tough crap and enjoy your stay. I paid in advance with no option to cancel. I didn't get what I paid for and my honeymoon was ruined because of some arrogant desk clerk. So, to all of you who will read this review. There are way better and cheaper place to stay when you visit my home city of New Orleans. Both The Marriott and Expedia have lost any and all of my future. Don't waste your money at this hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. It was very busy due to a lot of people being in town for the concert but they got me checked in and taken care off in a timely manner. The only thing that really disappointed me was the room I requested was not ready so they gave me a double then when we got there the sheets were dirty on both beds.
