"Such a nice respite."
We had a very difficult time with a rental car that was unsafe to drive on the hills in San Francisco. George, the concierge, was over the top helpful. He was able to get us another rental and we were able to get the unsafe car picked up! Thank you George! We also were surprised to find live music and dancing at the Top!! I arrived early and was allowed to check in early, which was awesome. Friendly staff. My only complaint would be that when we went to print off our boarding passes in the business center, we were charged 10.95 for 15 minutes and the sign in the center said it was 10.95 for twenty minutes..it was taking us longer on the computer to try and get seats […] together do the charge was $35 just to get our tickets and the printer ran out of paper. When I checked my statement, they charged me $50? I will be checking into that. Also , if you will be walking a lot, you will have two big hills to compete with. "Great San Francisco hotel!"
We stayed fo a weekend in February. We had a stanard room, small but very nice. Hotel staff was great. I have been to San Francisco many times. This is the nicest hotel I have stayed in. I would stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Nice, noisy, nickel and dimed."
Nice hotel in decent location. Room is small but clean. Parking was $50, but expected. Our room was in the front of the hotel over the entrance and we could hear the valet, doormen, flag pole clanking, and guests as they entered the hotel at all hours. Could also hear other guests in the hallway and their rooms quite easily. Felt nickel and dimed by […] being charged for wifi. Most coffee shops offer free wifi. Overall the hotel was fine, but I would try another hotel next time, or request a room in a different location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Great, but not when you wake up at 1:30am when the Hotel's False Fire alarm goes off and does not turn off for 30 minutes. Worst sleep I have ever had in a hotel. Manager would not do anything to accommodate. No communication was given to anybody regarding the fire alarm.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good referral from a friend"
We had a great time in SFO and the hotel did help. Good location, away from the craziness as Fisherman's Wharf. Good neighborhood, close to the cable car station. The hotel is very good, carrying the Intercontinental brand. Great breakfast on Sundays (expensive, though), great room, great view and good live music on Saturdays at the Top of the Mark […] . "BEWARE FEMALE TRAVELERS - THIS HOTEL WILL NOT PROT"
BEWARE FEMALE TRAVELERS - THIS HOTEL WILL NOT PROTECT YOUR SAFETY! Let me start by saying that I've NEVER written a bad review in all my years of traveling the world - including my job producing and directing for The Travel Channel & Discovery. The Intercontinental Mark Hopkins hotel in San Francisco left me stranded at the waterfront wharf at 11pm […] at night when I told them I was alone and afraid and needed their help. They refused to call me a cab stating it was against their policy. I called the hotel to get me a cab as I didn't have a cab number on hand - my safari on my iPhone wasn't working and I didn't have Uber (which I've since downloaded) so I called my hotel (which I had programmed in my cell) and the hotel refused to call me a cab saying it was against their policy! I told them I was alone at the wharf . The hotel said they couldn't call me a cab but they could give me a number. I said I didn't have a pen to write it down and that it was dark and desolate needed their help and they said, "that's our policy, sorry, call back if you want a cab number" and then hung up on me! I called them back to get number and beg at this point for them to help me by calling a cab for me - a female guest alone and somewhat upset at this point - they rattled off number which I forgot and when I called back - they rattled it off and hung up again. "Old fashioned elegance on Nob Hill"
Could not have asked for a more professional and attentive staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
Not worth of the money! Bad service, everybody there thinks they're something or they belong to a rich family but they are not. Service is really awful. No amenities, even the water in the shower was drizzling too frugally for the enormous amount of incidentals they charge prior to checking in. Bunch of advertising lies honestly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
What a great experience!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel staff was very helpful whenever we needed assistanse either for something for our room or directions to a certain destination. The view of the city from the restaurant at top of the hotel on the nineteeth floor has to be seen to be believed. Excellent location. Close to cable cars that can take you anywhere. On top of the Nob Hill with a beautiful view. "A huge disappointment on New Year's Eve"
I called the hotel to verify that their best amenity, the Top of the Mark restaurant/bar/lounge would be open on New Year's Eve so we wouldn't have to go out searching for other options and could spend the entire evening at the hotel. The person I spoke with assured me that we'd have fabulous views of the city from the restaurant and said he'd try to […] get us a room with a view of the fireworks. I also verified that we could go to the Top of the Mark for breakfast on New Year's Day. He said yes and said there's a full buffet or we could order a la carte. So it all sounded great! Just what we were looking for! When we arrived, I asked if we could have a room with a view of the fireworks. The man said that there is no view of the fireworks from the hotel at all. After going to our room, we wanted to go up to the top floor to the restaurant for some food, drinks, and an excellent '360•view'. The elevator would not take us there! Apparently the restaurant was closed for a private party. What a huge disappointment. This was the entire reason why I booked this hotel. So we had to go elsewhere. After waking up on New Year's Day, I was excited to finally go to the Top of the Mark for a fabulous breakfast. But NO! It was only serving a special brunch and had been sold out for months. I cannot even tell you how disappointed I was...Especially since I had called in before booking, just to verify and confirm these things. Such a major disappointment :( Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"lovely hotel despite....."
grand old hotel located atop Nob Hill.....rooms were lovely despite the fact that the hotel was not originally able to honor bedding configuration booked through expedia...travelling with male and female adult children, I thought I booked a room for them with two double beds....on check-in, I was advised that despite confirmation from expedia as to […] that configuration, the hotel had no rooms with double beds left and therefore I was simply out of luck.....i requested that perhaps they would cancel the non-cancellable room so that we could find necessary accomodations elsewhere in town....they refused as reservation was already paid in full through expedia....i thereafter requested a cot as an option but again was disappointed by their response that they had no available cots either.....fortunately, they discovered a cancellation and were able to provide the originally requested room with two beds, but the experience was frustrating to say the least.....they did, however, send a bottle of wine up to the room but that didn't arrive until after 9 PM....altogether, not an impressive performance Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"seventh time..still a charm"
As usual the Mark Hopkins does not disappoint. Stayed there almost every time we come to San Francisco. Only two minor items. Get with it and include internet with the room standard. In this world where everyone uses the internet, I felt nickled and dimed having to pay for it as a daily charge. Top of the Mark's menu is poor and way over priced. Other […] than the sliders, the appetizers were sub par and all very expensive. My wife ordered the "Green Eggs and Ham" out of curiosity, and get three pieces of deviled egg(one and a half eggs) with the yolk died green and a sliver of bacon. $ 11.00 for this? It was a joke . "Good hotel in great area"
Given the great Christmas time price it is hard to complain about the hotel. The rooms are dated though and the toilets even noisier than those in airliners. Ridiculous actually. Can't flush the toilet at night for fear of waking everyone up. Beds were very comfortable. Lots of slamming of doors in the morning as everyone exits the hotel for the day. […] Service staff was good and helpful. Room temperature controlability was not great. Top of the Mark bar has spectacular views. The carpets throughout the hotel need to be replaced. Still, it is a qality hotel with lots of history close to Union Square shopping (although on a big steep hill you have to descend or climb). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to Stay for Graduation at Nob Hill"
We loved staying at the Mark Hopkins! Our son's graduation was at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium and we could just walk over to the ceremonies. The hotel was beautiful and the buffet was fantastic. The hotel had a special christmas tea instead of serviing lunch in the dining room. They did not reserve any tables for arriving guests leaving room service the only option. "Lovely, elegant, not gaudy."
Beautiful, classy stay at the Mark Hopkins. Breakfast was pricey. Note gratuity is included and clearly marked. Front desk and concierge staff were amazing, as was room service cashier--both went out of their way to accommodate all our needs. Must have fabulous insulation, as it was very cold outside, but the room was a constant comfortable. Was never […] able to get room cooler for sleeping though. I guess it was only set to heat so could only circulate room air below the current temp. No big deal. Lovely bathroom and bedding, comfortable bed. We got a great price on Expedia, plus inexpensive upgrade at front desk. Parking overnight is $60 so use cabs and streetcars or walk while in town. $6-$10 to the wharf/pier. BART is good for other places. For distance travel Avis (and Budget) is a 5 block downhill walk away, to rent a car for a day . . . . $31 on their own website vs. $70 on Expedia. The hotel had all the toiletries, but there's a little gift store in hotel across the street or Walgreens 2 blocks steeply downhill for pain relievers, etc. Our favorite breakfast was the Blue Mermaid down near the piers/wharf. Alcatraz was wonderful, but go early to miss crowds and buy ticket a few days in advance. New Oakland bridge portion so worth driving through. Alcatraz much better than I thought it would be, self-guided audio amazing, but buy tickets a few days in advance and go on the early boat and during week if possible, to avoid crowds. "Beautiful building disappointing service"
We found the service at this hotel grudging, and certainly not what you would expect for a hotel in this class. For example, the person who checked me in told me to ask the bellhop about commercial garages in the area (the hotel garage was much more expensive than others in the neighborhood). When I asked the bellhop for directions to the garage, he […] just said there were garages in both directions and walked away. Aside from the service, the other disappointment was that there was more nickle and diming than I would have expected in a hotel of this type. Wifi, for example, is extra. "Classical gem in San Francisco"
I booked this for our first wedding anniversary in San Francisco. Prior to arriving I emailed the hotel to let them know it was our special day. They gave us complimentary strawberries and chocolate dip with a card. It made a difference. The hotel is a classical design - not your contemporary feel - and the bed was super comfortable. They have a keureg […] coffee maker in the room which we used, iphone docking clock, but it is the view that will take your breath away. Parking is expensive, so I recommend parking in California street at the Masonic garage. Sunday brunch at the Top of the Mark is pricey at $79 per person, so go there if you are willing to splurge and enjoy a 360 view of San Francisco. You pay for the view. Would we stay here again? Yes, absolutely. The staff was courteous and we did not have any issues. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I loved this hotel. I loved my room. I loved this neighborhood. Overall I loved my experience.
