"Classic elegant SF hotel, rich with history"
Spent the night there because we had a dinner event in the City, and had always wanted to stay there but never had a reason to as we live nearby. Check in went fine, and though at first we were told they could not give us an upgrade (we had booked through Expedia standard room), when she saw that it was my birthday she put us in a deluxe...which I think […] was simply a higher floor, but much appreciated, as view of Nob Hill neighborhood was lovely. Room was traditional and "old school SF", as were the lobby etc downstairs, which is just what we were hoping for. Went upstairs to Top of the Mark for cocktail before leaving for our dinner event---that was lovely! At first they told us we would have to wait 20 mins for a window table and stuck us somewhere crummy, but once they saw me get up and walk around and see several open window tables, they moved us before I could even ask. Everything was fine after that. The room was fine, service good, and when we called down at midnite to tell them there was no tv remote control in the room (Hmmm?), they came right up with a replacement. Parking is pricey ($60) so we used the one right across the street ($42) and taxi'd to our event...still saved $! Location is wonderful--we took cable car to Union Square for breakfast at Sears Fine Foods, another old SF classic, and walked back up the hill and walked around and saw lots of lovely old places on Nob Hill--a great way to enjoy SF overnite if you are a local! "Remembering then as if it were today"
This hotel is just fantastic! It makes you want to roll up to the door in vintage costume and play out the thin man as Nick and Nora for your entire stay. You can really feel the nostalgia from the era this hotel was built in. The best feature is that you can open the windows in the room and let in the fresh SF coastal air. Service is great, food is […] great, The Top of the Mark has fabulous views, but the live music, although fun for all the young people, was too loud for us to want to stay. "Good, classy, and reasonable"
Everything was great, service was outstanding, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Hard to believe that a nice hotel like that doesn't have a gift shop; The Top of the Mark is awesome.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is in a prime location on nob hill. Staff was friendly and helpful. My room was on the 12th floor with great views. The room itself was very small and I was probably assigned it because I was a solo.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I was in town for a friend's birthday weekend. The staffs were friendly but the room was very small to a point where I feel overcrowded. I went up the restaurant/bar on the top floor (Top of the Mark) hoping to relax a little but it was really loud. I think the restaurant/bar had replaced the pianist that was there before with a loud jazz band. Personally, […] I didn't like the loud noise, it was a bit overwhelming. The view at the Top of Mark was really great though. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Dont judge a guest by their Jerseys."
I was in San Francisco attending World Series games over the weekend. My first time staying in that area. Staff was very helpful. We wore expensive baseball Jerseys to and from the games. Apparently we didn't look the part and were not offered the use of the House Car as other guests were. My family owns a nice resort in Sanibel Island, Florida i also […] have earned my degree majoring in Hospitality so I know not to judge guests by appearance (as our resort is on the beach). "Great. Staff was amazing"
Really great! The blinds in the room didnt close all of the way, which was kind of annoying. The staff was really helpful with everything. The rooftop has a lot of potential but it's outdated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Enjoyed the hotel."
Nice rooms, pretty lobbby nice restaurant. Restaurant/parking pretty pricey though!Genuine Expedia guest review
We'd gone to a concert at the Masonic Auditorium nearby and decided to stay at the Mark Hopkins, rather than taking BART back to the East Bay late at night. The staff was professional and friendly. We got a nice room overlooking Grace Cathedral with a partial view of the bay. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Even the window and sill were spotless, […] which shows attention to detail. The view from the Top of the Mark couldn't be beat. The breakfast buffet off the lobby was a bit pricey but elegant with a nice selection of items, including pancakes, sausage, bacon, fruit, cheese, lox, bagels, doughnuts, yogurt with granola, dim sum, and two kinds of Chinese soup. Would definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Romantic 3 day stay, could be higher"
I've stayed at Mark Hopkins three times now. I was placed in a 4th room floor and then moved to the 8th. I like it higher, the views are great. Tried the buffet downstairs, yummy, and great for one on one meetings.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

""Kinda historic" doesn't imply bad condition"
Absolutely wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, except if they really have to and out of any other option.I'm a constant traveller & have seen a lot around the world and not so picky or biased even toward my favorite hotels. I'm a Fairmont guest whenever in SF usually, but had to stay here because it was somebody else's choice.I felt good since it's […] an IC group hotel anyway&by default it should be good.Well, this particular one at least isn't.I was disappointed since I first stepped into the lobby but it was ok.Front desk's demeanor was very cold, plastic&impersonal. The biggest surprise was awaiting me once I got into my standard double bed room,I really instantly regretted every penny I paid & was determined to just get out of the room, get down to the front desk and confirm if this is their regular standard rooms&if so I'd just refund if possible&if not will just cross the street to the Fairmont.I was genuinely upset. All this scenario didn't happen because my travel partner convinced me that we're just gonna sleep now for about 8 hours&will leave the whole building by then.He was right after all,&I too that & just slept in disgust.Again I'm not picky¬ difficult to please at all, but it felt like a true trap.It didn't feel actually to me,it was a true zero value for the cost.Double checked with the front desk before leaving if this their standard double room, not old one or if they're renovating some & I didnt get that, she confirmed yes.Im wasting my time writing this now Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"San Francisco ladies trip"
We moved once because the bathroom was way to small for 2 ladies. The second room we had was better, but there wasn't any drawer space or enough hangers or shelf space in the bathroom. We set up both ironing boards on which to place our things. The room never got under 74* the entire time we were there. Maintenance came immediately when we called and […] told us to close the curtains to keep out the sun and that they would override the system. It did come down from 77* , but never got lower than 74. We didn't want to move for a second time. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great room, great view."
the hotel's location at the top of one of the many SF hills provided a nice workout when returning to the hotel along with lovely views of the city. Spacious, clean room and bathroom. "Lovely older hotel; but a bit musty"
This is a lovely older hotel with a fairly convenient location. The staff are top notch. It is obvious that some floors used to be smoking floors. The carpets on all floors and rooms and in the elevators could use two iterations of professional deep cleaning in order to get rid of the somewhat musty smell in the hallways and rooms. All room windows […] can be opened up to 5 inches. Other than the somewhat musty carpets the cleanliness of the rooms was excellent. The beds were very comfortable. The restaurant is very good but pricy. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Go to Fairmont instead"
The room was the smallest room i have ever been in. We couldn't get comfortable. The air conditioning was broken, the shower handle was broken. From the outside its gorgeous from the inside its very OLD and outdated!Very disappointed!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Historic hotel with disappointing service."
Zombies. That's our opinion of the staff at the InterContinental. For the price of this hotel you'd be way better off going directly across the street to the Fairmont. They treat their guests with class.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Top Of The Mark"

nice location and servicesGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Very good hotel. The service was amazing. Polite and alert staff. They also provided a free drop off service on their Mercedes to my conference center. The hotel is a bit old as one can make out from the condition of the room, but well maintained and clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to everything"
I was in SF for a special birthday and the staff sent up a bottle of wine and birthday card. It was a very nice touch. The room was comfortable. And close to everything we wanted to do.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Still a great place to stay"
The hotel is obviously a landmark location in SF. In some respect, it is still a great place and in some respect, it has become a little bit dated. For example, the gym is relatively small and it does not have pool. Service was very, very good. And lastly, a visit to the Top of the Mark is a must.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Noticed hot water from sink took time. Other than that, great stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Was told that because the room was booked through hotels.com they would not be able to provide the king size room that was confirmed in the reservation and was instead placed into a room with a queen size bed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Room location - Conceigere"
Room was big but next to elevator whick was noisy especially early mornings and during "happy hour" at Top of The Mark. It took 3 tries to get 2 room keys that worked. The one concierge (George) was very helpful with directions, dinner reservations, and tickets but other one (a lady w/o a name tag) sent us to an "upscale ... popular ... Nob Hill "special" […] steak / seafood restaurant but we we arrived for our 8 pm Friday night (!) reservation there was no one in the bar and only 5 tables filled with diners!?! It really felt like we were sent to the "kick back" restaurant. We left to eat else where. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The staff were warm and welcoming. We had one small issue which they resolved immediately and left a bottle of wine in our room with a lovely note apologizing for any inconveniences. The hotel is right off Union Square - a very fun part of town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overall great experience"
We had a fantastic experience at this hotel! We spent three (week) nights here with our 9 month old. The room was beautiful and clean. The bed and bathroom were very nice. The hotel went the extra mile for our baby by providing a crib for him which included a baby travel kit and teddy bear. We ordered room service three times and had good experiences […] each time (e.g., food was hot and tasty, staff were friendly and professional.) My only note would be: this hotel is at the top of a steep hill. Be prepared for a hefty hike or plan to take a cab back to the hotel at the end of each day (which is what we did!) "Comfortable hotel in nice neighborhood"
Decent sized room with a large, clean bathroom. Great views from atop the hill, and some beautiful buildings around make the area look very nice. It's quite a climb to get to the hotel from BART (streetcar runs by hotel), and the wind makes it chilly outside the hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
