We decided to make a detour through New Orleans since neither my wife or I had ever been. We booked the room having stayed in several Intercontinental's in the past, This one was not like others. The hotel is under complete renovation, condition that was unknown at the time of booking. We stayed at the 7th floor and the crew was working on the floors above us and drilling. After 2 flights during the night we expected to rest us a bit and then explore the city. Not a chance with the nuisance. Stayed for 3 nights last weekend. Arrived early on check in day and our room was not cleaned. We were able to leave our bags and the hotel staff called us when the room was ready. We knew the hotel was under construction when we booked our stay and decided to book anyway. We were told construction would be from 8 am - 8:30 pm, but the noise started at 7:30 am on Saturday. I have to say that everything about this hotel was pretty good. It is definetly in an awesome location, the Bellmen were VERY friendly, full of smiles and extremely helpful. The Front Desk staff on the other hand, could maybe be a bit more welcoming, even something as small as a greeting WITH A SMILE would have been a bit nicer :) I was a bit disappointed […] in the cleanliness of the room. There was built up dust in a vent above the shower. Not sure what that was because there was no switch for the darn thing. There was dustballs throughout the room along the carpet/baseboards. To me if these rooms were cleaned thoroughly after each guest check out, there should be NO reason for these things to be over looked. "Nice Hotel wait until construction is complete."
The lobby and bar area are currently under construction so they both have what I would assume to be temporary locations on the 2nd floor. Since I am a IHG club platinum member we were given a free upgrade which was one of the newly renovated "balcony" rooms on the 12th floor. However the room faced a large office building and there was no furniture […] on the balcony so it didn't get used anyway. The construction was a couple floors below us, it was rather noisy, but unless you are trying to sleep late or hang out in your room in the middle of the day its not that big of a deal. Personally, the beds and pillows were to hard for me, but everyone is different. The prices for the mini bar are absolutely outrageous $4 for a can of pop $6 for a liter bottle of water and they weren't even very cold. But then again when is a mini bar ever a good deal. "Pleasing first time hotel experience in NOLA"
Despite many reports of noise due to the current renovation, we had a restful stay with a room on the 5th floor (slept well for 4 nights). Accommodations were fairly comfortable and the bed and pillows were nice but we had to follow up on toilet paper, tissue paper, and disposable slippers. Dust on TV stand was cleaned the day after we wrote "wipe me" […] on it. Iron and ironing board, coffee maker, and a safe were all available and although we did not use them, they were a nice touch. The staff (parking and cleaning) were mainly pleasant, always greeted us and offered help when asked. However, the Front Desk seemed flustered when handling a crowd such as there when we arrived (either some were new and not yet efficient, or maybe some were pros but were annoyed-looking). George (concierge) was very helpful and provided tips and directions. We had breakfast at the Veranda: the food and waiting staff were adequate and average. Extremely disappointing for an Intercontinental Hotel. Ignoring the mess and noise from the renovations, the room was not 4-star quality. The bed was missing a sheet; the thermostat didn't work right and engineering had to be called. Found a bug in my ice from the ice machine. Room service never delivered food despite a reminder call from me an hour […] later (I cancelled the food after 2 hours). There is no working fan in the bathroom so the humidity condensed on the inside of the window, pooled on the window ledge, then ran down the wall where it was separating the wallpaper (and this room was on a recently renovated floor). The valet clearly cannot drive a manual transmission because when I entered my car the smell of burning clutch was overpowering. This hotel is not ready for prime time.
