The gentleman who checked us in was very nice. But when we first walked off the elevator and were walking to our room there were half eaten apples strewn on the floor of the hallway. The room itself seemed nice and comfortable, but when we were sleeping an alarm went off and kept going off; I think the hotel should have made sure any alarms were turned […] off for the next guests. The next morning when I was taking a shower [the shower is half enclosed by a glass partition and there are mirrors along the walls] the large mirror directly across from the shower had steamed up and either the previous guest or a disgruntled housekeeper had written "REDRUM" across it in huge letters which gave me a jolt. It was quite disturbing.. We noticed later that "HELP" was also written on the other mirror on top of the faucets. Doesn't inspire confidence in the cleaning staff either way. The worst part was when i mentioned this to the front desk as i was checking out - the guy was completely indifferent and had the gall to ask how the stay was right after I told him about it. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The concierge service was excellent. The hotel had a nice bar and restaurant. Located 1 block from Picadilly Circus with its many restaurants and stores and a short walk to SoHo with its many high end stores. The May Fair is being remodeled, so it has no restaurant for now. Breakfast is served either in the Ball-room or in the Bar. Almost everything in this hotel is below five star standard. The bathrooms has only bath tubs that are so deep it is a struggle to get out of, while water seeps out while one showers. The TV is tiny and has very limited number of channels. The elevators are antiquated and takes a long time to arrive. Great location in walking distance to sites, great shopping and restaurants. About a 35 min tube and train ride to excel with only one change at Canning town. Very helpful staff. 3rd time we've stayed at the Mayfair and once again it didn't disappoint. Excellent service, spacious rooms (Deluxe) and cracking location in the heart of Mayfair. Main hotel bar is pretty busy but the bar of the casino (attached to the hotel and free to get into) was much quieter. The staff we very welcoming, efficient and friendly. The hotel and room were very clean and stylish with exquisite finishings and furnishings. Finding the hotel from the tube was very easy just around the corner from green park tube station. The location was perfect for our romantic valentines trip. We arrived on the Saturday at noon, was told there was no hot water - that both boilers were not working and the engineers are working on them and there will be hot water at 4pm. The lifts are extremly small inside and with 4 people, you will find that you are breathing in to avoid touching tummies with the person facing you. One lift out of the 3 available was out of service all weekend. Our "superior king" room was on the 8th floor too!! The restaurant in the hotel is very expensive for what you are actually recieving, would not recommend. There was more often than not no doorman out front - which one would expect at all times from this sort of hotel. Plus points about the hotel, hmm???
