"Worst stay ever, grossly overpriced"
WORST STAY EVER IN ANY KIND OF HOTEL- small, large, casual, fancy, or otherwise. This was a rare time for my mom, sister, and me to spend some quality time together before my mom moved out of the country. We made the mistake of thinking the Hyatt would be a nice splurge for us. Shortly after we checked into our room, we logged on to use the internet. […] The login page showed only 13 hours left, even though we were told we'd get 24. I called the front desk to ask if maybe this was a glitch. Instead of a nice explanation (it did end up being a glitch, as explained to us later by a nicer lady), I was accused multiple times for having used the internet already and this was the leftover time. When I nicely explained that we had only just arrived, the man said very rudely, "Well, I don't know then." Because I was so flustered at being spoken to this way in response to a simple question, I was hesitant to complain about the awful old-rag stench in the bathroom, for fear of being yelled at again. The amenities in the room were also strangely lacking: no mini-bar, tea, or water bottles (we usually do not partake in these, but this lack was weird); wifi was expensive at $13/day; and the towels were really rough and thin--you could tell they were cheap, as were the shower curtains. We felt like we were staying in a low-quality motel, where we were very unwelcome. Needless to say, we will not be staying here ever again, and we will be telling everyone we know to never stay here. Our trip to NY was to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. We selected GH due to it's great location (Grand Central entrance from hotel). While it was incredibly convenient the hotel was just ok. When we arrived our hotel had hair in the tub and on the floor and the furniture didn't look like it had been dusted in a while. They put a $100 charge on […] your account to "borrow" and umbrella and even though we returned it I was charged the $100. They removed it from my account when asked but not automatically like they said would be the case. One bright spot was Ricardo, who works at the front desk. "Horrible vallet parking"
The room itself was beautiful. Spacious, clean, comfortable beds. The lighting was utilized by touch pads which took time to getting used to. However the air conditioner was half broken and it took the room a long time to cool down. The vallet parking was my main issue at this hotel. I called ahead for my car and they said it would be on 42nd street. […] However when I got downstairs and asked the man on the street where it was, he said it would be on the mezzane level and that I needed a recipt to prove I paid for the service. The location and the fact that they let us check in early is the only good things about this hotel. We booked a club room, which was subpar, the Club staff members were unfriendly and hospitable and not helpful. The shower curtain was covered in mildew and mold, and I asked the Club conceirge to call and have it changed, after being aggravated that […] I was speaking to him he did call, but to our dismay when we got back to our room later that night it still had not been changed. I had to call back 3 times in order to get housekeeping to come up and change it, even though they said each time that they would be right up. They took so long I had to go ahead and put my little girl to bed, but when the housekeeper got there, he knocked but did not wait for us to answer the door, and barged in turning all the lights on and banging the door, with barely an apology when he saw me standing there. He woke up my little girl, and took 45 min to change a hookless shower curtain, being extremely loud. Needless to say, this Hyatt stay was the worst one I've been to, especially for the price. "Not worth the 4.5 Star rating"
Our stay was on average not a good one. 1: The hotel has a complicated set of elevators that makes it difficult for anyone below floor 17 to get to the higher floors. 2: We were charged US$56.00 to receieve 4 packages but if we wanted the packages brought to our room it would be another US$40.00. 3: Their internet daily fee is very high. 4: On our third […] day upon returning to our room at 4.00 pm we discovered that our towels were taken away as they were left on the floor but were not replaced. We had to use hand towels to dry ourselves. We went to complain to the conseierre who rudely stopped us and said "union rules do not allow me to talk to you about this, see the front desk or house keeping manager". We went to the front desk complained about both and a promise was made that our room would be re-serviced. We returned at 1.00 am to find no towels and the room still not cleaned properly. It took over an hour to find the night manager who personally delivered fresh towels as we were to be married in the morning. He promised not to charge for that night. 4: We asked for a wake up call and another one 10 minutes later as our pick up was 5.00 am to go to Japan on our honeymoon. We never recieved the wake up. The reviews on this hotel are mixed and there is definately a service issue with the hotel. You were never made to feel welcome. It is not a 4.5 Star hotel.
