Very friendly service and a great location to access the surrounding areas - La Jolla all the way to downtown and Coronado. I've rarely complained about hot water in a hotel but the coldest we could get the bathroom sink was lukewarm (again, not terrible, but not perfect for brushing the teeth). Hello ...we let's start off by checking in. Check in time is at 4pm but I asked the clerk at the front desk if we could check in earlier and they said yes. It took over 30 minutes to check in, when we finally got up to the room our keys didn't work. We waited another 10 minutes in the hallway with luggage for them to bring new keys. We stayed 3 nights and 2 of the nights our keys didn't work and we waited for new ones. The hotel was great, service was awesome. We stayed in the marina view suites and they are big and roomy, we had a great view but my sisters room was the corner one and right next to their balcony there were bees there so unfortunate they couldn't enjoy their balcony. We could see and hear the sea lions from the hotel and from our balcony, this was […] a plus. The pool area is also awesome, though it was a bit chilly out there, the kids still had fun, only thing the slides are only open till 7pm, they should stay open till at least 10. "My 2 year old liked it......."
We were travelling to San Diego to celebrate my wife's graduation from college with her Master's degree. We decided to take a chance and book an unpublished fare through Expedia and after looking at the 4-Star hotels in the Mission Bay area, we decided that they all looked awesome. We ended up with the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay. I was floored when I […] saw that they charged a whopping $29/night to "self park" and $34/night to valet. Fast-forward to arrival day, we discover they were resurfacing the parking lots during our stay, so we would've had to park down the road and across the street in a structure or fork over the $34/night for valet. Good thing there is plenty of FREE street parking surrounding the hotel and only a few extra feet from our room. Parking fee avoided! Check in was easy and the girl at the front desk was pleasant. The in-room check out was not working and when I went to the front desk for check out, I was greeted by some somber looking front-desk personnel that looked as if they'd forgotten to take their Zoloft. Room was ok. The bed was way too soft and sagging and made sleep almost impossible (back ache for 2 days). Fridge was tiny and missing parts to keep drinks and food on shelves. Only ice machine was upstairs and on the other side of the building. No robes, boo! Pool was ok, but only one trash can (really?) My daughter loved the water slide (highlight of the stay). "Worst Hyatt Property in USA"
Awful.awful.awful ! We had 2 King/Ocean-view "suites" for 3 nights and regretted every minute of it. From the moment we walked in, a powerful musty smell, spots everywhere on carpets, and bird droppings in the balcony greeted us. The hotel clientale seems to be beer swilling loudmouths and the ambience [lobby, restaurant, rooms] reflects the cash-n-trash […] mindset. This is a Days Inn or Motel 6 dressed up as a Hyatt "resort". Fooled us with their website and hotels dot com description and ratings. We stayed here for the sea taxi to sea world and the water slides. Slightly disappointed that the slides closed at 6pm, same time as sea world. Came home from sea world wishing kids could use the slides. And the piña coladas are terrible but I'm picky about my drinks :) we loved having einsteins bagels on site for a quick breakfast. "Definitely not worth the money"
I have stayed in many hotels and this clearly was one of the worst. I had reserved a waterfront suite. Check-in process was not that bad and staff was courteous. However, the room smelled really bad. Even my four year son noticed the foul smell. I have never smoked, so i thought maybe it was a smoking room once. I requested a room change which was promptly […] granted. The other room was a little better but still did not feel fresh. The carpets were very dirty. We did not feel like we were in a suite. It felt more like a cheap motel room. The resort package supposed to come with free Wireless Internet but it could only get it work for 10 minutes and it was slower than the dial-up. To top it of they charge $29 for parking per day. "Incredible staff, incredible view and room."
First of all, I got confused on my booking dates and we arrived 4 days after my reservation. We were a no-show and charged for the room. The front desk clerk said hold on a minute and got on the phone. After a few moments he gave me the news that they will give my the same room I asked for, with the same view and credit our one-night stay. We would […] only owe for incidentals. The front desk person is named Clayton...awesome. Also, the self-parking was being re-done, so we received valet parking for the self-parking rate. The suite was fantastic with a beautiful view of the dock area. We sat on the balcony and watched a beautiful sunset. The next day we used the wonderful pool and spa. The bellmen were helpful and got out luggage and car to head back home. That's when I discovered I had left my iPad in the room. Really, I'm normally more organized than this makes it appear. I called the hotel and after getting in touch with security and housekeeping, they had my iPad. It'll be arriving Fed Ex on Wednesday. I pay for shipping, of course. I would definitely not classify this hotel as a 4 star. We were in the "Garden Wing". Open ceilings led to seagull feathers and poop all over the hall on the way to the room. One morning there was some form of guts on the floor as we left our room. There was no place other than the room to sit in comfort. The lobby was cold both physically and in appearance. We came here for the junior tennis tournament. The location was very close to the Barnes tennis center. If anybody comes here for Sea World, it's perfect location as well. For nearly $160.00 a night, this hotel in my opinion was just OK. Not nearly worth the price that they charge. "Too close the airport"
We stayed in the suites building. There's a tower that appears to be newer but we didn't stay there so cannot comment about that. The room was remodeled in the past few years however the building itself is old. The room smelled musty like a cheap motel, there was a bag of half eaten fast food left on the patio outside the patio door in plain site that […] smelled gross, so we just closed the door and the curtains. The TV did not work, just static, after looking a bit, I found the cable was disconnected, it was stripped out and would not stay connect to the wall. Obviously the staff or housekeeper doesn't even care to report. Also the room only comes with the basic shampoo and conditioner for the shower, if you want anything extra like slippers, room, or anything there's a card that you need to fill out and they will bring it to the room. Not would you would expect at a Hyatt. The worst thing is that the room is directly in the flight path of the airport and windows and room shakes as the airplanes take off. Seems like the planes stopped flying around 11:30pm, but started again at 6:30am sharp, so don't plan on sleeping early or late. I stayed at the bay view and it was beautiful. I loved the view so much I stayed in the balcony until 1:00 a.m. admiring the lights of the bay. As soon as I arrived I was thirsty. I was disappointed because there was no formal kitchen as I thought I saw on the rooms picture gallery. The refrigerator was small and did not cool properly. The worst experience […] was the drinking glasses. I thought they would be washed but I found them dirty with some sort of a spray cleaner on them. I wasn't sure it the glasses had a graphic decoration on them or if they were dirty. I didn't want to take the chance and took to running the water through them and saw the white stains disappearing. "Great Resort - Everything was fabulous, but..."
The resort is great. The view (I had a corner suite) of the Pacific Ocean was fabulous. It was conveniently located right across from SeaWorld. The pools were great and the service was fantastic. All in all, there was nothing wrong with the facility or the service. The only bummer was the additional costs. I hate this. I hate being nickeled and dimed. […] Its a major pet peeve. I wish Hotels.com would make a notation of this when we reserve the hotel room. Here, they have a $19 resort fee that you pay on top of whatever the room is. Additionally, self parking is $29 per day and valet parking is $35 per day. So, you are going to pay another $48 per day on top of the room charge. That, all in all, is not that big of a deal. The hotel is certainly worth it—I just don't like the way they go about getting that extra $48. Just tell me about it upfront. Don't tack it on after the fact once I pull up. That drives me nuts.
