Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge

I booked this room because I wanted a river view, and I was not disappointed. It was a full-on, gorgeous view and the hotel is in a great location. The lobby is beautiful, the rooms are nicely decorated, and the internet in the room was free, although there were not enough outlets to plug in a laptop and a cell phone charger at the same time without […] unplugging something else. I had also read about the wonderful beds but found mine to be sagging and not as comfortable as I expected, though the pillows were great. Also, for some reason the shower worked the night I arrived but not the next morning, and when I reported this at checkout, the front desk did not apologize or even say they would look into it until I mentioned it twice. The room service was okay but not a lot of selection, and it took over 45 minutes (and a 2nd phone call) to get it delivered. And both when I arrived at the hotel to check in and departed to check out, there was no one at the front door and I had to wait a few minutes before anyone showed up. So in my view, not a 5-star hotel in terms of service, though certainly very nice in every other respect. Read more

From the city map you cannot tell the PERFECT location of this hotel. The views from our room were incredible day and night: the Chain Bridge, the Danube and the castle on the Buda side. Everything you want to see is in walking distance. Would choose it again!

My room had a wonderful view of the Chain Bridge that was great especially at night. English was widely spoken and everyone could not do enough for me. I mentioned that it was my anniversary and returned to my room to find champagne waiting. Everything was top class. I spent three wonderful nights there in May 2011.

This hotel is in a very nice location. As one can easily tell, it is by the Chain Bridge and when you step out at night, you will see the beautifully lit castle on the other side of the Danube. It is at the starting point of the Vaci shopping street and the surrounding area is quite pleasant and safe (especially since all the high end hotels like InterContinental […] and Four Seasons are right next to Sofitel). The room however seemed a little small and subtle touches such as replenishing tea bags daily were absent, which was a little disappointing because you would expect perfection from a five star hotel. This hotel was very good. Hotel staff went above and beyond to provide help with delayed baggage and provided good advice regarding places to eat. They did charge for the internet which was quite steep. Very good location - would absolutely recommend and stay again upon return to Budapest.

My only complaint about the Sofitel Budapest is that the mattresses need to be replaced. While the bedding looks cushy and inviting, both mattresses had indentations where ones booty lies, which can cause a bit of a back ache when you first wake up. Other than that, everything was good. Would have preferred perked, no instant coffee in the room.

I've stayed many times in 5 star hotels, and this for certain was not a 5 star hotel. Customer service was good, but the rooms were outdated and not nearly worth the price. All of the amenities were extremely overpriced and piecemeal. Whereas most 5 star hotels take care of their customers, this hotel expects an exorbitant fee for every service rendered […] (internet, breakfasts, premium television, etc.) so do not expect to relax without paying individually (and inconveniently) for each aspect of your stay. The hotel was centrally located, but there are other, cheaper and more up to date hotels closer to the main boulevards and tourist areas. Do not waste your money on this hotel, the extra dollars you pay above four star hotel will only buy you the opportunity to pay for additional services and comfort as they continually surprise you with each additional option. Check-in was a pleasant surprise. The hotel policy indicates the check in time from 2 pm, and we arrived around 10 am just to drop our suitcases at the reception. The extremely friendly and helpful receptionist, on her own initiative, arranged for us to check into our room already at 11 am. We stayed at the Sofitel during a three-week road trip across Europe and it stands out for a couple of reasons. First, it offered the most comfortable bed of our trip. And second, the location is second-to-none. Particularly as we were travelling with our 1-year old, it was very important that we could explore Budapest in the most painless way possible. […] The Sofitel is a hop, skip and a jump from the centre and a nice stroll across the bridge to Buda Castle. The staff was also great with our son and he slept very soundly in the baby cot (another plus: when the curtains are closed the room is really dark -- great if you're hoping your little person will have a bit of a lie-in). The only thing I would caution about is the parking situation -- it was extremely expensive to park our car for two nights and while we had a great deal on the room, the cost of parking plus two mornings of breakfast made the hotel much more expensive than we thought it would be. But beyond that it was a wonderful place to stay and we would do it again in a heartbeat. Read more

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. From the moment we walked in the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. We asked for restaurant recommendations and the receptionist and the concierges were all brilliant at recommending somewhere. They gave us easy, clear directions and knew what we wanted from a restaurant and they all delivered. […] We asked about the best places to go and the best way to do things and they were always helpful and knowledgeable. We bought tickets for attractions through their business centre and metro tickets. We booked a massage at the Gellert Spa through them too. The room was immaculate and the views are simply stunning. The best views in Budapest. Unlike some hotels tea and coffee facilities were provided so we could make a cup of tea in the morning which is very important to me. They also provided a bottle of water for each of us on arrival which was a very nice touch. Bath robes and slippers were provided which were useful for visiting the hotel spa.
