"Very good hotel"
My family (2 adults, 2 children) stayed one night at the hotel. The bellman and doorman were great. They helped us graciously any time we needed help and even sometimes when we didn't. They were always friendly. The concierge wasn't as friendly or helpful, but I am not sure there was anything she could have done with the questions we asked of her. Check-in […] and out was a bit slow, but not horrible. The elevators, which others complained about with previous posts, were fairly fast and I had no issues, even though we stayed on the 31st floor. The pool is smaller than it appears in the online pictures, however the 180 degree view is amazing and more than makes up for it. The gym is pretty good also and views from some of the equipment are tremendous. I didn't see any water in the gym, which was a small downside. The buffet breakfast at the Ambassador Grill is good quality, but it is fairly pricey ($32 adults, $16 children). The location isn't bad, but its a bit of a walk (20 minutes) to midtown attractions. "Nice view of New York"
The room was nice and the view was awesome. The room service for breakfast was right in time. However the food was just ok.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Other than the location and the view, I can think of no reason to ever go back to One UN. from the desk clerks to the people working in the restaurant and everyone in between, disinterested is the word that keeps coming to mind. People who aren't interested or prepared to provide even a modicum of good service should not be working in the hospitality […] industry. Our experience was so far below any other hotel experience that we've ever had. So, other that the location and the view i would not recommend One UN. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We got to hotel well before check in and expected to just check our luggage with the bellman and return for check in later - but the front desk (Barry) found an available room early that was actually an upgrade over my booking so we got in early, and got a room with a fantastic view!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice view; quiet; roomy. Friendly staff."
My friends and I were looking forward to using the indoor pool, but the pool/health club hours were tourist unfriendly. We will not come back here if we are looking for health club relaxation after a long day of walking and shopping in the City. We were so disappointed! We packed but never had a chance to put on our pretty bathing suits (rats!)Genuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient but in need of upgrade"
This hotel is close to Grand Central and the east river. It allowed us great access in and out of the city. I enjoyed the professionalism and courtesy provided by hotel staff. We were pleased with the stay mostly because of the truely priceless view of the Manhattan skyline. The bathroom was outdated. I liked the modern furniture and minimalism, but […] the carpet was worn, the hallways needed a coat of paint and the bed creaked when you rolled over. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient but quieter than being in Times Square."
I stayed at One UN as I was visiting NYC for 2 events in Midtown central, i.e. Times Square area. I stayed in One UN as it was a better price but still within reasonable walking distance or quick $10 cab ride to my events. The hotel is beautiful and the staff lovely. The tub was a bit old but everything else was very up to date and really nice. Overall […] I liked the convenience but also that the are around the hotel was not crazy crowded with people which I don't like about Times Square hotels. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel, location and wonderful staff!!"
This was my second time staying at the hotel in the last 4 months, and I highly recommend it. The staff went out of their way to accommodate me. I arrived at 8pm and was hungry, but didn't want to go out. When I checked in I had mentioned that, and asked if the dinning room was still open since I knew that every evening it was open for drinks and snacks […] until 8pm. The front desk called up to them and asked for them to stay open for me. I appreciated that so much!!! I stayed in Tower One since it was the one that was renovated, and it was so comfortable. The bed, pillows, and comforter were luxurious. The shower was perfect too. And, there is always a taxi at hand right outside. I lived there for a long time so is am familiar with most of the better hotels, and I will say this is one of the best ones. I will stay there again when in Manhattan. "Where's the internet connecion?"
Everything was great with one major exception; the internet connection. First of all the policy of charging us $39 per day to work with 2 laptops and an iPad is the kind of practice which gives New York a bad name of nickel and diming it's visitors whenever possible, especially when it's something I can find for free in any corner coffee shop. Secondly, […] to set your system up so I have to repeat the aggravating, confusing and time consuming process of logging back in each time a laptop or iPad goes into sleep mode makes it very difficult for me to get anything done. We had to leave the hotel to work! You might want to re-think this one. Otherwise, great hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was quiet and spacious with a view of Empire State building and other Manhattan landmarks. It lacked amenities I expect for its price range, such as bathrobes and free internet. Carpet in the room was stained. Not enough coffee or cups provided, though room-service responded to our request. Hotel staff were generally very friendly and accommodating. […] Lobby is attractive but room furnishings a little tired-appearing. The health club and pool have only very limited hours. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice Hotel with Great Views"
We booked the corner king room and the views of the city were spectacular. The soft goods in the room left a little to be desired, definately needed some updating. The shower was small and there was a detachable shower head which was horrible. The location was OK not much going on in that area but in walking distance to shopping and restaurants.Genuine Expedia guest review

"We'll be back!!!"
Our stay was wonderful, and we certainly plan to stay there again on our next trip! We had a priceless high-up corner room view of the East River and Roosevelt Island as well as the UN building. We certainly loved our day and night outings to the main Midtown attractions just minutes away by foot, but it was also a big treat just to return to our room […] to be dazzled by the view--which we never got tired of during the entire time! The hotel staff were VERY friendly and professional, and it was simply awesome just to mingle with the foreign dignitaries and visitors and enjoy a friendly conversation with them in the lobby or in the lift. The hotel is also kid-friendly, decent, and tasteful in its furnishings. Our room was spacious and quiet. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant, but the knowledgeable staff certainly knew where to direct us for a nice, hearty meal for a very reasonable price. Speaking of price, One UN New York was certainly not cheap, but what decent NYC hotel worth the stay is? It's closest big-name competitors ran about the same price, but could any of them boast the spectacular and exclusive riverfront view? If I were to come here on business alone for a couple of nights, I'd consider a cheapie, but because my family deserved a real memorable treat, there was no other place but One UN New York. It's only been a couple of days, but we all miss the place dearly! We miss our room and want to return to it someday soon!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Just 4 blocks to Grand Central, with a 24 hr convenience store in the same block. The room was quiet, we felt safe, and got a nice view as requested. The staff and concierges were all courteous, helpful, and approachable. The bathroom and room were very clean but we avoided the sofa. Hallway carpet was dirty too, but did not bother me-one walks on it […] with shoes-but the sofa did. The lack of a coffeemaker/refrigerator in the room were mentioned on the website, but it would have been nice to have them. The absence an icemaker in the entire hotel was surprising-they did send up ice after we called, but one doesn't feel like calling every day. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Rooms need renovation, carpets are dirty. Nice view from my room on 33rd floor but that's about the only positiveGenuine Expedia guest review
When I checked in I went to my room to find that the bed was not made and there were empty wine bottles in the garbage can. I went to reception and was told that the room was erroneously marked as clean, and given another room. "Large rooms some with a great view, some not"
Some rooms have a great view, others don't. I could really recommend taking a corner room (and they are large which is a BIG plus) which gives you the most spectacular views on the East River and the city, with in the distance the One World Trade Center and close by the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings. That sight alone is worth the room. The bed […] are good, service is reasonable. It's a typical business room but all lights have a dimmer so the atmosphere can be set according to the mood! The hotel is located on 42nd between, 1st and 2nd Avenue and it is only a 10 minute straight walk up 42nd to Times Square and 5th Avenue. The hotel has a small pool and a gym with a great view. The area is ok, not fantastic (the view is) but only within 10 minutes walk from Grand central, park Avenue, Madison, lexington etc. Would I stay here again? Definitely ! "No knowledge of food allergies."
It is almost unbelievable that the restaurant not only did not have gluten free bread but also the waitress did not know what it was. It is also hard to understand that considering the large percentage of people who does not tolerate milk products that hotels do not have lactose-free milk. Soy milk is not the same because it does not taste like milk […] and also some people like me is sensitive to soy. This hotel did not even have soy milk. Personnel working in restaurant should be minimally trained on food allergies. Specially when working for hotels like this one with such an international clientele. If you are lactose and gluten intolerant you will suffer for breakfast. Many of the coffee shops around also do not have gluten free bread or lactose free milk. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Quiet area, lack of in room amenities"
The pictures on hotels.com were not the same as the room. It shows in the pictures a seating area, which was not available. There were no fridges of any sort, and I felt it was pretty outdated except for the bed frame. Needs to be renovated. The bathroom felt creepy and needs a revamp big time !Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice rooms in the newly renovated tower"
I upgraded and absolutely loved my room. Great views and the club lounge was a nice amenity. I can't speak for the rooms in the older tower and it's a little out of the way, but still accessible to Grand Central so not hard to get around town by subway. The bar/restaurant was closed until 5pm. I kind of wished they had food and drinks available at more […] times of the day. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Decent Hotel within walking distance of X Square"
Overall the place was good. The view from my room was nice. You could see the Pepsi Cola sign. Upon arrival the staff were not super friendly but they got the job done quickly. We did not use their restaurant, did try the bar and found the 19$ per glass of wine to be a bit much so we never returned. The place is old but clean. The housekeeping staff […] were nice and friendly. We were able to walk to Time Square and near the neighborhood there were a couple of so-so places to eat -nothing to rave about. Also, their gym was ok -only a few machines. Overall, we would stay in the hotel again and recommend it to others. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great view but that's it."
It looked like a really nice hotel from the pictures and had good reviews, so I booked it even though it was pricey. When we got there, the hotel lobby was really nice so we were excited. But then we walked into the room and it was small and smelled like it used to be a smoking room. There were holes on the walls (outlets and on bathroom walls), the […] bathroom sink was too low and was tilted so any water that falls on the sink counter dripped down, the bathtub/shower is totally old, the nightstand table was also tilted and is practically falling off the wall, there was no fridge or coffeemaker (they did provide the coffeemaker when we asked but had to keep calling each day to get more coffee grounds), no complimentary wifi even though they said there was and staff was not very friendly, well it is New York. The hotel room had a great view (through small windows) but that's the only thing we appreciated from this hotel. Maybe we were just given the ugliest room, not sure. Anyway, it was a BIG disappointment for us. If it's your first time in NYC, book a hotel next to a subway station. This was about a 12 minute walk from Central Station which was handy until your way back to the hotel after walking all day, then it seems like an hour walk back. "Would go back in a heartbeat..."
Loved the upgraded room on the west side of the hotel. The view was amazing with the Chrysler & Empire State Building right there in full view. The king size bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and modern. The Grand Central Station was about a 7 minute walk directly from the hotel which was very convenient. I was so stressed out and nervous about visiting NYC but as we checked in we did so with a great gentleman name Barry. He made us feel like we were old friends. I didn"t know until later on my husband had talked to him several more times to get information about taking […] a carriage ride and where to go for a romantic dinner. Thanks Barry!!!! "Business oriented hotel with stunning views."
This was my first time to NYC, and I'm glad I chose this hotel. It is relatively close to the nearest subway (Grand Central) and is in a quiet, secure area. I stayed in the East tower, on the 30th floor in a 2 double bed room. Upon check-in, I was offered a room with a downtown view if I waited an additional hour, but my friend and I were tired from […] travelling and just wanted to crash for a bit. When we walked in, we were VERY pleasantly surprised. Our room was a corner unit, with a wall of windows. We had a view uptown and downtown with a view of the Empire State Building. The room was clean and although the furniture was sparse, it looked relatively new. Carpets were clean with no stains. Walls had some rubbing marks on them. The only window treatments they had were black out plastic shades, but light still beamed through the gaps. The bathroom was large but the walls and grout were a bit dirty. Housekeeping was excellent and provided clean towels daily. The fitness center has an awesome view of the UN headquarters. The indoor pool was smaller than it looked on photos. Hotel staff was all around pleasant and accommodating. The only negatives I have with the room are the odd electrical outlet placements. There were only two in the room, about 3-4ft from the bed, so we couldn't charge our phones/laptops and work on them at the same time from bed. No outlets by the shared nightstand. Other negative is room service prices - Outrageous. $5 for a banana, $7 for OJ. Eat out! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
After seeing the impressive lobby, had high hopes for the room. It was in shabby condition, dirty carpet, knicks in wall and towel rod falling out of the wall. Could get over all this. When we showered mid-day, the result was a flood in the bathroom. The structure must have been designed to be handicapped accessible, so there was no barrier between […] the shower and the rest of the room. Ok, European style? Ok with me. However, the water did not drain and there was about 1.5 inches of standing (used) water throughout the entire bathroom. We contacted the front desk and were assured that this would be taken care of. We headed out to the US open and were gone from 4pm until after midnight. When we returned to the room at midnight, it was clear no one had been in. The standing water remained and there was nothing to do but ask for towels and wade through. We spoke to a desk staff member who had to go find a manager when we checked out the next morning. She was unable to find a manager and gave me a phone number to call. The manager did call me and we've been playing phone tag for the last two days. Hope they try to make it right.
