The Langham in Auckland appears to be a well established hotel. Hopefully our experience there was an aberration. We had secured our reservation many weeks in advance. On arrival the evening desk clerk informed us she needed to contact housekeeping to see about a room for us. Twenty-five minutes later we finally met the evening manager. He offered us […] a room that was still being "de-ionized" for tobacco smoke. After much protesting and additional delay we were given an unremarkable room sometime after midnight. Staff was helpful but not overly attentive (however Roberta at the concierge stands out), Internet access was free (although to get it I had to join some frequent guest program I may not use again, so what's the point) but sloooow. A friend and I stayed at the Langham in late October/early November 2012. After two trips to the front desk trying to get my room key to open my room, the stay got much better. Though the Langham is not near the water, they have a free shuttle that takes you from the hotel and drops you off downtown, near the water and the tour reservations desk. It […] runs on a schedule so you can plan accordingly, as it picks you up in the same place. To be fair, the lobby bar was under construction when I was there, so the condition suffered slightly. The main cafe had a wonderful breakfast, but it was also very pricey. The Chua Spa should not be missed. Prices are comparable to other top notch spas, but the atmosphere and appointments are world class. There is a saltwater pool, large hot tub, sauna, steam room, and ice bath area, in addition to the usual accoutrements. The best feature of this hotel is the service. The staff will accommodate every reasonable need to your satisfaction. They were very helpful securing us with reservations, a rental car, and even price comparison shopping for the best rates. The concierges are knowledgeable, friendly, and very expedient. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Auckland. Read more

Friendly staff. Great service. Wonderful amenities. Overall it was a pleasant stay. Not quite in the middle of the action but they run a complimentary shuttle that takes you to the harbour. Room was very comfortable and the bathroom was also impressive. The highlight for me was the pool and spa; a nice retreat after a day of sightseeing.

Very well appointed room and excellent staff. A bit of a nickel-and-dime approach to services (which seems common in the area). There are lovely breakfast cafe's across the street for less than 1/2 the cost of hotel fare and looked more tasty. The other draw back was that when we had the do not disturb sign on the door we got at least 5 knocks on the door for housekeeping and mini bar service. After getting off a 17 hr flight, we went straight to the Langham for a massage and to do nothing for the day. We booked our simultaneous treatments at Chuan Spa 5 days before our arrival on a Thurs. I was surprised they were able to accomodate us on what I would think was short notice, but they did and it was wonderful...very relaxing and invigorating. […] We booked our room on the club floor, which was fabulous. Complimentary; bottle of champagne in our room, pastries, coffee and tea all day in the lounge, cocktails and horderves in the evening, breakfast and extremely responsive and friendly staff. The hotel is generally traditional in decor and feel, but comfortable and up scale. I highly recommend the experience. In fact we had only booked one night and decided to stay two. The only negatives were a lack of signature spa lotions, etc in the changing area after a shower/sauna,swim,steam/treatment and no headphones in the gym. They could change out the water dispenser to glass in the gym as the water tasted like plastic. The room was very quiet and well appointed. WHile the hotel was not in the middle of the shopping district it was a very short cab ride and the hotel also offered a free shuttle. I took my 83 year old mom on my trip to New Zealand. I was pleasantly surpised when I arrived at the Langham..we were in "high cotton" and I was able to treat my mom to classy service on a budget. I decided on the Langham after comparing the neighboring properties within the Auckland area. I would have paid the same price for a 7 night accommodation at a 3 star or 4 star hotel. The location is convenient to public transportation (buses, taxis) and is located in the heart of downtown Auckland. I was able to reach most areas (Mt. Eden, K-Road, […] War Museum) by walking. Other areas by the water can be reachable via Langham's free shuttle bus, which runs every 30 minutes to the Britomart. They have internet kiosks on the 5th and 6th floors. Turndown service complete with mints and slippers, fresh towels all day long, jacuzzi hot tub on the 2nd floor spa area and staring at the star-filled Auckland sky from the tepid pool area really made my stay worthwhile. I arrived severely early off of my flight and was able to check in 6 hours ahead of schedule with no problem. Buffet brunch at Eight was to die for. The staff here smile, genuinely care and welcome you. You just can't get this service anymore at the high-end NYC hotels. What a shame. This place is really priceless.
