Las Palmas by the Sea - Puerto Vallarta

We had a great time at Las Palmas, despite being on a strict students' budget. For some perspective, the rooms were cheaper than a beach-area Motel 6/Super 8 in the US, and a bit nicer. Guests were a mix of Americans, Canadians, and locals. All staff were friendly, helpful, and clearly took pride in the place. We did not do all-inclusive, but the food […] smelled great. Las Palmas is located in walking distance to several corner stores, fast food joints (KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King), a big Sariana (Mexican Super Wal-Mart), a mall, and many inexpensive taco stands & local restaurants, so there were plenty of budget food options nearby. You will save money if you go this route, but will have to know basic Spanish, though everyone at Las Palmas speaks some English. The beds were indeed rather hard, the walls were thin, and there were music/PA activities (quiet hours were 8AM-10:30PM). However, we brought earplugs and were exhausted from daily sightseeing/beachgoing, so sleeping was not a problem. I'd recommend requesting a room near the "adults' pool," as the "kids' pool" seemed to be the source of most of the noise. The adults' pool was warm & clean (we had no problems finding pool chairs like other reviewers), and the entire grounds were meticulously maintained every day. The beach was very nice, with a large open sandy area, volleyball, and an area of shaded "huts" with lounge chairs. We stayed at Las Palmas By The Sea for 2 weeks (Nov 12 - 25, 2011)...have never been here before and we were very pleasantly surprised! The entire staff is fantastic, very clean all around....Food was great even tho only 1 restaurant, we never got tired of it....We got to know quite alot of the staff and to name a few: Edgar (Co Co Lounge ) is FANTASTIC! […] very polite and makes awesome drinks! other bartendars: Carmen, David, Antonio and others I can't remember their names...Pedro in the Restaurant is great....we NEVER met ANY staff member who wasn't polite....they all recommended places to go and visit and we really enjoyed it! even tho this is an all inclusive resort (gratuity included) we tipped extra, these people work extremely hard and they absolutely deserve extra! We also met other guests who have been going here for 15+ years....this is a a good indication of a great place with great service! we took the city bus to sight see some smaller towns ($6.50 pesos), Pitillal, Buceritas, Old Town Puerto Vallarta, Malecon...We highly recommend this resort! Very nice hotel. Room was good, beds a bit hard. Shower missing some tiles, but otherwise, nice. Service was great, staff very friendly. Food was good at buffet. Lots of choices although I'm not very picky. You can always have something cooked while you are at a meal (omelet, etc). Close to the marina on the main strip. Easy access to most things. Cab […] ride downtown was only $8 USD each way. Pools were nice. Resort not overly crowded. Not sure why lobby store remained closed during our visit. Seemed to have a lot of activities scheduled during the day and shows at nice. Only complaint was concierge. Sent us a note for a "free gift"...ended up being a free breakfast if we went to a timeshare presentation. Would have also given us a discount on a day trip. We passed. They could have been pretty pushy with that. We booked our day trips in the lobby and Juan was extremely friendly and helpful. Told us how to get to where we needed to be, which bus or taxi to take, etc. and we got a discount. Bartenders were good, one was a bit slow. Beach kind of small, sand was rocky and you sunk into it when trying to get in the ocean. Downtown beach was more sandy and nicer. Overall we really enjoyed this resort and would definitely go back and recommend this resort! Read more

The staff was OK but they charge for every service and the remote for the extremely old antiquated Tv was like the holy grail that guest must sign for and pick up at the front desk then go to your room and program it for yur brand of TV. ( Info on the back of the remote). The Iron was the same. sign for it and return it to laundry. We received 2 towels […] that were very dry and extremely rough (sandpaperlike). The bathroom was old and dirty and needs a good cleaning but with the walls as old as they are, it might not be cleanable. Room 118 is above the stage where live shows are been performed and at some point it was a suite with a 2 burner electric stove which still works but the burners are very rusty and a fire hazzard. very limited plugs for your gadgets. Internet acccess will cost you 190 pesos $16 according to Ricardo the receptionist. The location is great, the pool area nice and clean and the hotel is large but needs millions of dollars to renovate it and bring it up to a 3 star level. Read more

When booking in to this hotel you are made to wear a plastic bracelet stating whether you are all inclusive or not. We were not as it was a short break booking on the net. I did not like wearing this as it tells everyone in and out of the hotel that you are 'branded' it must be worn and then cut off when you leave. The waste in the hotel is horrendous, […] food and drink being thrown away as people are too greedy and take everything because they think it is free. The rooms were shabby and smelled of damp. The internet had to be paid for by credit card, and used in reception, which in this day and age is out of order. Loud techno-music in the pool everyday 10-16, you can hear it even in the room.. Not very relaxing! Beach is poor. If you don't wan't to have all inclusive, DON'T GO THERE. There is no menu's in restaurant, just buffee.

Pagamos por un todo incluido y por el precio esperas que sea algo bueno.... Las instalaciones son pequenas, la comida pesima, las bebidas con alcohol barato. La verdad es que esperaba mas de lo que recibimos. No lo recomiendo! ...el agua de las albercas super helada y el jacuzzi blanco de la cantidad de cloro contenida en el y el agua tibia. Las instalaciones […] necesitan mantenimiento, existen dos elevadores y uno estaba fuera de servicio. En la playa hay un pequeno espacio para sombrillas que son pocas para el volumen de vacacionistas en el hotel. El precio me decepciono mucho, por menos siempre nos hospedamos en lugares mejores, la ubicacion es rescatable esta a 5 minutos del centro y si planean ir de fiesta el taxi cobra $50 pesos.
