The Westin Beach Resort and Spa, Fort Lauderdale - Fort Lauderdale

Initially the "ocean view" room that we payed for was on the 4th floor staring directly at the pool. We called, and they swapped us into an ocean view on the 8th floor of the south tower. The view was phenomenal, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the location was excellent. There are tons of restaurants and bars just a 5 minute walk away.

From the moment we checked in we experienced unfriendly service. The folks just seemed uninterested. The only folks that were GREAT all the time were the valets and the towel/umbrella teams. Easy access and right across the street from the main beach. Close to trolley and water taxi for sightseeing. Many restaurants nearby, not much of a choice in the hotel. Either a snack bar outside only opened during pool hours, a sushi bar, and an expensive steakhouse. Overpriced room facing roof top equipment and blank walls. Hotel is a typical Westin and located across the street from the beach. Front desk and valet are extremely friendly. There is a nice pool on floor 3. The two people working the pool were like Laurel and Hardy meets the Soprano's. You can't have more than 3 lounge chairs per room (even though there are 4 in a room) and you are only allowed the number […] of towels they sign out to you. I noticed if you tip them well, they magically have another chair for you and will tell other people they don't have any. The pool bar is extremely expensive! $10 for a mixed drink and $12 for a Mai Tai. These are 12 oz drinks in a plastic cup and nothing fancy. A 12oz can of Bud was $6. The food was good but again, very expensive. One might say "what do you expect on the beach in Fort Lauderdale?" We priced drinks at other establishments and the Westin's prices were 25-40% higher. My advice, enjoy the beach but stay away from the pool and bar at the pool. Read more

Clean hotel. Friendly staff. Bathrooms don't have doors, they have "plantation shutters". This means that there is visual privacy, but no aural or olfactory privacy. Why you would design a bathroom like that is beyond my comprehension. Very nice hotel. I have stayed at the W hotel down the road, which is known to be at a higher level of the starwood hotels, but the Westin was a great place to stay for a little less money. This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel and it is always very nice. I still am amazed though as to why hotels of this stature feel compelled to charge for internet access in the room and so much for parking. You feel compelled to tip everything they get your car and you return it which also escalates the price of parking. Very sad...

the best part about the hotel property is the location - its bang opposite to the beach and most rooms (we had an ocean view double) provide an amazing view .. the staff is very courteous and genuinely concerned with your comfort .. the only thing I did not like about the property was the maintenance - we had asked for a fridge and microwave to be placed […] in our room and we did get it - its just that they were atleast a 10 years old ! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Westin Beachfront Resort, Ft. Lauderdale. Our beachfront king room was so spacious and the view was spectacular. The room was tastefully decorated, clean and quiet. The bed was especially comfortable. We will definitely return to this hotel and highly recommend it .
